Cheap, for a reason.

Andrew in TAS – Machine this part was bought for: 2003 KAWASAKI KLX400R

Comments On Jan 31, 2014:been running these on multiple 525's for some time now ,never been let down.dont be afraid to try the primary drive brand .If your into saving some bucks when you buy chain and sprockets, buy two fronts change one when you see that it is starting to wear. And it still will be cheaper than one of the other big name brands.

Awesome money saver

Justin in CA – Machine this part was bought for: 2003 HONDA XR70R

Comments On Jan 27, 2014:Looks just like more expensive sprockets, good quality machining and everything. Use these unless you buy fancy chains, if you spend $80+ on a chain you might want to consider other sprockets. However, I can't tell a difference between these and the oem sprockets in terms of wear, but I only use these on a pit bike.

Comments On Sep 05, 2013:I bought big 22 inch maxxis razor 2 rear tires and my ltr 450 became to bogg. I bought this and it did the job. There wasn't a huge difference at all. just enough to stop it from bogging when i started to move. i would get a bigger difference from the stock tooth amount.

Pleasant suprise

Braydon in UT – Machine this part was bought for: 2005 YAMAHA YZ250

Comments On Jul 14, 2013:I use-to always run renthal sprockets and chains when racing MX. I decided to buy primary drive steel sprockets and an inexpensive chain (DID 520 standard) just to get me by for awhile and I was really surprised how well they held up! They seemed good quality and installed nicely as well. I always spray the bike down including the chain after each ride as well as clean the chain with solvent and wire brush every so often and always keep it lubed. Would not hesitate to buy again! Thanks again rocky mountain!

I do keep the bike very clean after running it and keeping grime, dirt, and sand out of the sprockets and chain will help with life.

Great OEM Replacement - 04 Yamaha Blaster

Brendan in GA

Comments On Apr 04, 2013:My stock Primary Drive Sprocket had seen better days. It honestly started to wear a long time ago... I had pushed it back long enough to it became a pending critical failure incident.
I was picking up some other items and needed a few more until I got free shipping. Figured the price was a deal to get free shipping, especially since I really needed this part.
New sprocket bolted right up and worked like a champ. A few dumped clutch runs later and I cannot even tell its used. Thx RMATVMC!

Comments On Mar 29, 2013:These Primary Drive steel sprockets fit great and hold up for a long time before showing wear. They are a great value for the price and I don't see any reason to use another brand. I could spend more on lightweight or self-cleaning sprockets but I regularly clean and take care of my equipment, and these sprockets have never given me any trouble. Thank you Primary Drive! Great stuff :)

Quality and affordable

Danny in MO – Machine this part was bought for: 1987 YAMAHA WARRIOR 350

Comments On Feb 02, 2013:I was reviving the first 4 stroke quad Yamaha ever produced which I had found in a barn. I didn't want to go all out on the quad (not yet anyways, the older it gets the more I want to fully restore it back to showroom condition) so I gave Primary Drive a shot for both the Front and Back sprocket. Dang am I impressed. 4 years strong and they both are just showing normal wear and tear. The fit was spot on. It is hard to spend anymore on sprockets when these are of such high quality and strength. Thanks.

Same life as more expensive sprockets.

Josh in WA

Comments On Oct 31, 2011:I've used more expensive brands, as well as drilled, "lightened" front sprockets, but they all last exactly the same amount of time. There is absolutely NO performance gain with a "lightened" front sprocket. On average, I go thru 2 front sprockets per 1 rear & chain. If the front is starting to bend teeth, do yourself a (cheap) favor and slap a new one on.

Good front sprocket and again very durable

W in PA

Comments On Feb 12, 2011:If you purchase this or any other sprocket for your TRX300Ex make sure that you have the sprocket keeper and use it.I did not realize how important the keeper and two bolts were until it was already too late. The inside of the sprocket wore out and I was stranded in the woods a mile from home.Without the sprocket keeper the sprocket will wobble and add additional wear. Also when moving to a 14 tooth front sprocket to change the gearing you cannot use the case guard and should it ever decide to fly off you can bet you will be replacing the bottom end.I suggest that anyone with the trx300ex lower the rear sprocket teeth instead.

Comments On Dec 10, 2010:Renthal or Supersprox are not even worth their name. They wear so badly you will be paying 5 times the price of some primary drive sprockets with chain. Just buy Primary drive all steel kits they are not that much heavier, and the weight only matters if you suck at riding in a race.

Not a wise choice for larger bikes

BRANDON in OR

Comments On Oct 27, 2010:I have gone through 3 of these sprockets like they were made of butter on my KTM 450exc. The last one lasted 2 dirt rides. My chain is in perfect shape so I cant blame that. Even where the sprocket mates to the coutershaft splines were mushrooming out allowing for play.
Don't even think about running one of these in the sand. I got 1 ride out of a 13 tooth.
On the other hand, it is a $9 sprocket. It may work well on lower horsepower machines, dual sports and less aggressive trail bikes.
Im going back to factory ktm sprockets from now on.

Comments On Jul 21, 2010:I like to run these front sprockets on my honda 450 and my ktm 300. 2006 Kawasaki KFX400

Greg in UT

Comments On Apr 29, 2010:Bought this to get a little more "umph" out of my KFX400 at the dunes. I can now ride most areas in 3rd gear instead of 2nd. This front sprocket (13 tooth) is a great way to get a little more "grunt" out of your machine for very little cost and install effort. I coupled it with a decent set of sand tires and it climbs hills that were only a dream before.

Top Quality

Cory in IN

Comments On Mar 13, 2010:I purchased this kit for my 2006 Yamaha YZ450F dirtbike. If you are looking for a superior long lasting setup this is by far the best choice. I put the complete set Steel front sprocket, steel rear sprocket, and the gold x-ring chain on before I rode milage and setup for the Turkey Creek Enduro here in New Paris, IN. After the initial install I rode the bike around just to work the links in on the chain and then made one very slight adjustment to tighten the chain and then rode 80 miles of mud, sand, water, logs, rocks, and everything else in an Enduro lol! I didnt have to adjust the chain after all that. The sprockets still look brand new. Buy this kit now before it goes up in price. I have purchased name brand chains that COST MORE than this entire kit :( Never again I will only run Primary Drive chains amd sprockets on my bike from now on!

Excellent choice in every way

Jeremiah in NC

Comments On Nov 18, 2009:I am very cautious about sprockets. If something goes wrong, collateral damage is highly likely, and so is pushing or towing.
The fit of this sprocket was perfect on the KFX450R. Material is not too hard... not brittle to break... Material is not too soft... not soft to break... Yet the wear seems as good or better than anything else.
For the price and quality... top notch... 5 stars...

Comments On May 13, 2009:Sure you can find a lighter product, but you'll pay the "Renthal" price. There is no reason to pay so much for something that is going to get chewed on buy a chain! These have seemed to last as long as almost any other sprockets I've used,at more than half the cost. Can't beat that.If you don't get these sprockets they only other option would be the Super Sprockets(Tri-metal Design-Aluminum inner and Titanium Rivets holding a steel outer) These last forever. They also cost more! These are the same ones ktm offers with their badging. Bottom Line. These are a long lasting, low priced, high quality product.

No problems

GORDAN in MD

Comments On Mar 02, 2009:This is pretty much the only one out there if you want to go down a tooth. You're going to need to go down 1-2 teeth on the rear sprocket or else the gear ratio is too short. I also have much taller rear tires (ITP Holeshot XCT) because I need the ground clearance where I ride. This sprocket fixed the gear ratio to bring it just a hair shorter than stock, which is good for hills.

Primary Drive front sprocket

KIRK in CA

Comments On Mar 14, 2008:Has worked okay, but please note. My understanding, and now what I've experienced, is that if you have a KTM, do not use any (as far as I've heard) front sprocket other than OEM. The width of the sprocket is different and does NOT seat against the primary shaft seal properly, thus allowing the seal to leak. Mine started leaking so I replaced the seal only to have the new seal eventually start to leak. Went to KTM dealer, bought OEM sprocket and another seal...presto, no more leaks. Other than that, it was a typical steel front sprocket that I'd recommend (to non KTM owners).
TECH NOTES - The primary drive fronts for KTM's have been widened.

Good and dependable sprocket.

KEITH in MN

Comments On Feb 12, 2008:This probably isn't your first choice if you are a professional racer, but you're reading this, so you obviously aren't a pro. I installed the sprocket last spring, it worked perfectly through a season of trail riding and a couple enduros and hare scrambles. I checked it out as I was switching over to my ice tires and it still has lots of life left in it. I will buy Primary sprockets again.

Comments On Jan 15, 2008:Went up to a 14 tooth on my raptor 660 after shearing 2 different OEM's. Figured i'd shear this one too with all the torque, but it's held up good for two years now. Didn't lose much at all on my bottom-end (with a raptor, you can spare some low-end torque) but gained a good bit on top-end. Everyone asks why they can't beat me and i tell them it's the front sprocket.

Comments On Nov 24, 2007:This front sprocket fit very well and is good quality. I have about 100 miles on it now and it is not showing any wear. My OEM sprocket came with rubber rings mounted to the sides of the sprocket to quiet the chain and this one does not include those pieces. This does not affect the performance of an off road bike. I would purchase this sprocket again.

another great product from primary drive

Stephanie R. in TN

Comments On Nov 08, 2007:We have always used Primary Drive's products because they are very dependable and reliable. You have to take care of it and keep it like new if you want it to last for a long time. Wash your bike often when you ride in the mud or dusty conditions and keep the chain lubed up. We have purchased front sprockets from other brands and they either brake or wear out too fast and cost twice as much. Recommended!!

Now is the time for Sprockets!

Tim in MN

Comments On Oct 23, 2007:A gearing change is the quickest, cheapest, seat of the pants change you can make to your bike. Check the numbers yourself, one tooth on the front equals about three in back. Also, the front is easier and faster to change. Now try to ignore the price difference. It's almost free horsepower!

Keith in TX

Comments On Oct 23, 2007:I changed from 20in tires to 22in tires on my 400ex. The original gear was too high for climbimg. I ordered 2 different sprockets and found the one that worked the best for my setup. I went from a oem 14 tooth to 13 tooth to get me back to factory specs. This is a great sprocket and can be changed to a different size in less then 10 minutes on my machine.
