Comments On Jan 08, 2012:Iv'e got about 3k miles out of this, (which I consider good) it has good traction in the gravel, as well as the road, buit they howl on the road! Good tire, I'm going to try the Dunlop 606 next, and hope for less raod vibration.

Comments On Jan 04, 2012:I normally run D606 on the rear, but for those long easy rides travelling on more bitumen than usual, I get ~40% extra milage out of the Karoo.

Comments On Aug 02, 2010:Installed just prior to a week long 1300 mile trip on my KTM 690 Enduro R. Probably 35% on road. They worked well for the first half of the trip, but wore quite quickly and performance suffered as the trip went on. If I was home, I would have replaced them by about 1000 miles.
My friends Dunlop D606 wore much better on the same bike with similar riding styles (though he may be more aggressive). I'll try that next.

Comments On Jul 01, 2010:A friend and I bought tires for our GS's at the same time - he picked up the Conti TKC80's and I went with the Metzeler Karoos and we thought it would be interesting to compare. The Karoo rear has a more aggressive tread than the TKC 80 with larger, nastier blocks with more space between. The tire feels a bit chunky on pavement at lower speeds but I expected it to be far worse. I really didn't mind it at all on the highway and once I got the feel of it I was blasting corners like usual. Loud though, and I don't expect a long life if it spends too much time on the highway. The tire performed amazing off road and I'd take it anywhere - but my buddy seemed to do just fine with his slightly less aggressive Conti through 500 km of sharp rocks, creeks, mud and grizzly bears. The steel belted Karoo was BRUTAL to mount compared to the TKC80 but I expect it is a bit tougher. Best Liked: ruthlessly competent off-road, handled fast corners on pavement just fine, mean & tough Least Liked: probably won't last long if lots of highway miles, hard to mount
