Better than stock
Whenever I would do an exhaust system I would always "drop" in a K&N. This set up is super nice and I feel more secure than with the stock set-up. You can safely run no lid.

Modquad Pre Filter for Air Flow K&N System

Okay.
This product was great with preventing water from getting to your air filter but the 05 trx has a metal support off of the top of the K&N air kilter that screws into a mount in the air box and Outerwears did not make a hole for it. I used a very sharp knife and made a slit for the support arm. The product fits over the air filter well.
