  • The Dunlop MX51 Geomax tire has a profile design with more tread volume (greater land/sea ratio) in the shoulders for excellent cornering grip and a more open center-tread area for straight-line grip.
  • Recessed biting edges in shoulder tread blocks yield more traction for greater grip, especially in corners and ruts.
  • Chiseled shoulder block shape improves the tires side traction and makes traversing ruts easier. This tapered shape facilitates knob penetration through soft surfaces, whereas a flat knob would "float" and/or be deflected. Instead, the tapered knob penetrates into the firmer underlying ground to give the tire more bite for more traction.
  • Tie-bar design connects and reinforces the tread blocks for greater tread stiffness, yielding improved intermediate-to-hard terrain performance.
  • Recess design in the area between tread blocks gives the tire improved compliance for enhanced ride comfort.

Not what it's hyped up to be

Comments On Aug 03, 2014:Got the front and rear set for mainly moto use. The tracks I ride are normally clay that packs and once in a while I ride some soft sand trails. The front tire always feels like it's nearly wanders and pushes more than I like. It's worse as the soil gets softer. I don't get it....they look like great tires. Wear is ok though, if you can get past the loose, wandering feel enough to use it for long.
The rear is better and holds up ok for a Dunlop.

MX51 worst tire ever

Comments On May 27, 2014:I thought that I would save $10 and buy an MX 51 instead of my typical Maxxis tire and it lasted 2 rides before it disintegrated. The tire literally came apart. I was forced to ride it back to the trailhead flat and then damaged my rim doing much for a $10 savings...I am sticking with the Maxxis from here on.

Good Tire Choice

Comments On May 01, 2014:Good, not great tires. Work very well in Midwestern dirt, not quite as good in the Midwestern rocks. Buy a knobby knife, they will need a little work but will last through most of a hare scramble season.

Best all around tire

Comments On Apr 28, 2014:I ride in coal country PA which is pretty hard on tires. These are the best all around tire you can put on a bike. They grab well in all sorts of terrain and wear like nails. Getchy some!
