  Like a spare tube -- you need one.

  After removing a few links, I think you would have to abuse or not follow the instructions in order to need to replace the pin. By using the tool, the links come apart like butter. If you buy the chain breaker, get an extra pin regardless cause you will lend it to your buddy and they will break it 'by accident', you know.
