NOISY Trumps Excellent Handling

William in New Hampshire – Machine this part was bought for: 2008 BMW R1200GS

Comments On Sep 15, 2015:Purchased front and rear Anakee 3s about a month or so ago for 2008 BMW R1200Gs with 13K miles on it. Put about 1,000 miles or so on the tires at factory recommended pressures. Great cornering stability, wet surface traction, etc., but they are the NOISIEST tires I have ever owned or ridden on! 40-45mph and 60-65mph ranges are worst for incredible howling - - sounds like a wheel bearing is going or your tranny is on its last leg. Actually hurts my ears at times. In spite of their strengths in handling, etc., these tires are poorly designed for reasonably quiet road travel - - which is what most R1200GS owners are primarily using their bikes for. Michelin should have pulled these from the market a long time ago. And shame on BMW for deciding to use them as standard equipment on R1200GS models of recent manufacture. Who at Michelin or BMW actually TESTS any of these products? Would never buy this product again, because UNREASONABLY LOUD ROAD NOISE trumps just about everything in my book . . . especially with a bike that sports a heritage of quiet operation.

front wore out first

Larry in Tennessee – Machine this part was bought for: 2003 BMW R1150GS

Comments On May 18, 2015:I have used Michelin tires for the entire 151,000 miles since I bought the bike new in 2003. First set was T-66's and the rest were Anakee, Anakee2 and Anakee3. Latest Anakee (the 3) has about the same traction characteristics as the previous Anakee and Anakee2, with the dirt performance being better. Mud and sand still the same. I bought the pair (front and rear) and mounted them at the same time, and ran the same tire pressure as the previous tires since 90+% of the riding is 2-up. There was less scalloping wear in the Anakee3, but instead of getting the 12,000+ miles that I have been getting on the previous tires, this one was down to the wear bands at 9500 miles. I replaced the front and it now has 4000+ miles and just recently had to change the rear tire which got nearly 13,000 miles. I will probably have to replace the front again before the rear wears out.

Great handling tire

WILLIAM in AZ – Machine this part was bought for: 2012 SUZUKI DL1000 V-Strom Adventure

Comments On Jun 05, 2014:This set of Anakee's replaced a set of Anakee II's that finally wore out. The grip is great on road and wet conditions and sufficient for dirt roads and trails. Mileage has been good so far with about 4000 mile on the set with minimal wear. I ride two up and the tires provide a good ride and grip in the corners
Good choice for the V Strom and performs sufficiently off road within the limits of the motorcycle. Will be installing a second set for an upcoming Baja trip.

Tire was a very difficult install, 90/90-21 front

Comments On Oct 28, 2013:I picked this tire based on reviews I'd seen for my 2011 KTM 990 Adv. So far just did a 50mile street scrub on the fresh tire. Handles well and is smooth.
I down rated the tire due install difficulty. I only got the front and usually a 21" front is pretty easy. I took is to a an installer with powered tire changing stand. The last part of the 2nd bead was so tight that the tool keep jumping off tire. We made several attemps re-lubing as we went.
Finally finished last part using long tire irons. I was afraid of tearing the bead. Not done yet...next challange was getting bead to pop into place. Even at the extreme pressure of 90psi it would not budge. Finally left wheel/tire in the sun for 2hrs, re-lubed and stretched the bead with irons and it finally went into place.

Good to go

thomas in CA – Machine this part was bought for: 2012 SUZUKI DL650 V-Strom ABS Adventure

Comments On Jul 05, 2013:Had the anakee 2. Had 8000 miles and started to scallop. Worked good on graded dirt roads and just about every where else. Hope the anakee 3 perform just as well and last a bit longer.
