Installation not as easy on Africa Twin as directions/video suggests
I love the versatility of these racks, but they did not go on as easy or as smoothly as the directions and video suggest they would. The main issue I think was the wholes drilled through the plastic of my Africa Twin. The threaded metal tabs were not at an angle conducive to the rakes fitting together as smoothly as the directions/video suggested.
If you leave everything very loose then tighten them all slowly, things may come together for you...
Red out line shows places that I had issues with that did not fit together as well as I had hoped.

    Working well for several years
I have been using these for several years on my KLR and they have worked very well. Although I have not, thankfully, tested them at speed, I have plated the right side in the dirt (and pavement) several times. So far, only a minor bit of twist in the rack frame but this does not impact the aesthetics or operation at all.

    Perfect racks for my needs
A great set of racks at a better price. Came with good welds and powder coating. Good hardware inckuded also. Bolted them on the bike in about an hour by myself, with my right (dominate) hand in a cast. Easy to attach the pelican type cases and sturdy enough to lift the bike by.

Thank you for the installation video
I recommend watching the installation video if you have a KLR, made installing a breeze.

Just a couple of installation notes:

The supplied blinker light extension was very long. I had some extra to coil and zip-tie away.

The rear brace that relocated the helmet lock hits the licence plate light housing, not a big deal through.

Not super sure about some of the fasteners' quality. I was already planning on swapping them anyway at a future date.

Otherwise I am totally satisfied with this set-up. Excellent value for the money.

Great product at a great price!
I was looking for a reasonably priced set of pannier racks for my Adventure bike and the Tusk panniers had the features I was looking for at a really good price. I was going to use a different brand of pannier soft bags with these which ended up worked great.
The fit and quality of this product was better than I expected based on their cost being much cheaper than other brands. I’d definitely suggest these to anyone looking for a cost affective slternative to other over priced brands.

You get what you pay for
Like Michael P said in his review, The left rear pannier bracket does not fit with the factory grab handle. You can either grind away at your grab handle, grind away on the sloppy weld, or install without the grab handles and relocate your rear signal lights. Neither are acceptable solutions to me. If everything fit as advertised this would definitely be a 5 star product.

any idea when the production on tusk pannier rack for africa twin will be ready??

BEST ANSWER: The production sets should be available for purchase in 6-9 months. Possibly earlier if all goes well in initial testing.
I have a set of Tusk racks on my KTM 1190 ADV, I'd like to add a Rotopax fuel can. What is the optimal size to fit this rack? It appears to be the 1.75 gallon can, but I can't be sure.

BEST ANSWER: I use 2 one gallon rotopax containers on my Tusk pannier racks. I am able to strap them on using 2 cargo straps in an x configuration. Additionally I use the large pannier boxes which I have mounted rotopax mounts on the top. I ride to camp, remove the boxes, strap on the rotopax, and I am carring extra fuel in a light set up.

I have a 2012 bmw r1200gs adventure. Exhaust is on the left side. Will the tusk rack for 2012 gs as noted fit my bike??
    John K on Nov 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: To be honest I have a KLR650 so I can only speak to that specific rack. Based on the RM pics It appears it will fit. I had assemble it loose and tighten equally around the set up. I did have an issue as do most people with any rack system the holes aren’t exactly true to the rear sub-frame. But that was on a used klr that I bought. This set up should work well for your GS. Good luck have fun. They are excellent racks !!
Are there racks available that will fit the Yamaha XT250 .. perhaps with some home-toolshop modification/s?
    Brian S on Feb 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I think that they will fit your bike. Just order it under the xr250 or the other 250 Yamaha style. If you already have a set Of racks you may be able to put just the boxes. But you wouldn't be able to remove them. These are really big boxes for a 250. Just so you know... and there are 2 sizes. Big and bigger. I am happy with mine... i still had to do a bit of shall we say finesseing To get a fit but nothing major. Better than my original boxes.
can the pin assembly be removed from the rack frame or is the pin permanently in there?

Is there a way to relocate the quick release cable to be inside the box? I think its way too easy for someone to pull the boxes off and steal them. I'd feel way better about a way to pull that cable from inside the box. Keep the box locked from the outside and when you want to remove them open it and release from inside.

is there any way to accommodate a passenger with this mounting rack system ?? i would really like to maintain my ability to do this
    aaron s on Apr 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have this setup in my KTM 690 and it doesn’t affect the passenger at all, the racks have a mount to place the rear foot pegs on and it works great
Can you still use passenger pegs on the KTM 690 enduro with the Tusk pannier racks? The video show some on there, the description says they are removed. Thanks
    Donald F on Dec 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: on a 2016 690 the stock pegs must be removed. The rack has a location ( hole ) to mount a footpeg BUT it will not accommodate the stock KTM pegs.
Where is the optional included rotopax mounting bar?
    Samuel H on Feb 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I was not aware of a *included* optional rotopax mounting bar. I don't recall seeing anything about it prior to ordering. Cheers!
Are the Tusk racks made to be symmetrical in relation to the bike and account for a wide exhaust on one side of a bike like the KTM 1190 Adventure?
    Robert C on Oct 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Fits my 1190 beautifully! They are symmetrical, this means that there left side panniers leaves a bit of space between the bike and pannier, Tusk have included a mounting point for a Rotopax system in this space so that it can be used, I also strap my camping chair into this space.
I can't speak highly enough of Mr Tusk panniers, I have also stopped there bikes on then more than once with boxes both on and off, once at speed which saved my expensive Zard full carbon exhaust and other times with the boxes on and they have loved to tell the tale over and over.
    I would highly recommend these.
Is there hardware to attach LEFT SIDE ONLY? (2016 KTM 1190 Adventure) looks like the brace across the back is left-to-right. I only want a rack on ONE Side, even if I have to buy both.

    Thanks, Ed
    EDMUND B on May 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: For the two sets of tusk pannier racks I have owned (KLR 650 and DR 650), it was possible to mount only one side if desired. You are correct in your observation of the brace. It connects left to right.

How do you mount rotopax fuel containers to tusk pannier racks?
    Robert P on Mar 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The center of the Tusk mounting plates do not allow for mounting of the Rotopax containers. I recommend mounting a flat aluminum plate to the removable brackets of the rack thus allowing you to mount the center securement assembly for the rotopax. I think this would work well with throw over / soft pannier bags which would provide extra protection for the Rotopax
how do you mount the rotopax mounting plate on the 950 adventure rack?
    John C on Mar 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm not 100% sure the 950 is the same as the 1190, but on my 1190, Tusk has a cross piece on the left (shifter) side for the RotoPax adapter to mount to. It is not shown in the picture, but the bar is there. You will need to buy the RotoPax and the RotoPax Adapter separately. What is very nice (at least for the 1190), is the panniers are spaced out the same so the bike is symmetrical from the rear. Since the exhaust is inside the pannier rack on the right, the open space on the left is then filled with the RotoPax. Should you fall to the left, the RotoPax is protected by the Pannier Rack (RotoPax is stored between the rear wheel and the pannier rack).
WR250R...is the Tusk Racks symmetrical? I would like to add either a Rotopax or tool tube on the inside of the left rack.
    Kurt on Oct 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes and No, there is room to mount a tool tube however with the cross bar a Rotopax will not fit. At least a 2 gal will not fit, I do not have 1 gal to test fit.
Just installed my tusk pannier rack on my CRF250L rally and I didn’t see anywhere in the description about loosing the passenger pegs or needed to order aftermarket one. Seems like that I do needs added to description?
    TROY H on Oct 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Troy I put my set on a KTM 690 they do not include pegs. I do not have rear pegs on my bike. Not sure if you can mount your old ones or not. Sorry if this does not help.
Can this be made to work with Honda CB500X?
    Eric W on Feb 7, 2018

    May need to modify mounts
Is there a plate for this rack that mounts a one gallon rotopax, or do you have to make your own? 2015 DRZ400S.
    Eric B on Jan 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is not a plate per se. There are mounting brackets both sides that you could attach a plate to attach the Rotopax hardware. I would buy a second set of mounting brackets for the tusk rack that way you could easily switch out the rotopax to panniers and back.
How wide will a wr250r be with this panniers or can someone tell me the width of the panniers rack? thanks Thomas

    Will the 2017 KTM 690 Enduro rack work on a 2017 Husky 701 E?
    A shopper on Aug 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: probably, I don't have the Husky 701, but it is basically the same bike, just blue instead of orange. I think it's a very good rack. On retrospec I should have bought the Touratech rack because my touratech aluminum bags and my Kriega plates doe not fit on it. I was hoping to be able to swap between all my bikes. You can not do that. The Tusk racks and Aluminum combo is the cheapest way you can go and the quality is top notch. I bought a pair for my son in law's KLR.
I have Tusk panniers but Tusk does not make a rack for my Africa Twin 650 RD03 i was thinking about buying a rack for a diffrent bike and modifying it to fit, so my question is which bike would be the closest to my africa twin or is it maybe possible to buy all of the mounting hardware and just make my own rack from scratch ?
    Kristján Grímur H on Mar 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I cannot say if this racking system will fit your bike it fits perfectly on my drz650. I thought about fabricating something that would fit a little differently on my bike but from all the reviews and online videos it shows that this mounting system works great for my bike. I have not checked about your kind of bike and the type of mounting hardware you will need period I am sorry I cannot give you an accurate answer for the kind of mounting hardware you will need for your kind of bike good luck to you.

    https://kriega.us/osplaform-18mm/

    EDMUND B on Sep 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Ed, I don't have the Kriega OS platform but I just recently viewed it with the website you provided and just by observation, I mostly definitely think it can be done. Remember, the Tusk Panniers come with mounting brace so for whatever reason if it can't be done utilizing the Kriega m oo.i u t accessories, it can be mounted with Tusk (which is included with the purchase. I installed this rack on my 2017 KTM 1090R. The side pcs fit fine, but the crossbar that braces the two side pieces interferes with the tail section. I had to mount it upside down to clear the tail section. Not an issue in terms of rigidity, but it prevents me from mounting my Yoshimura exhaust, which is a few inches longer than stock. Anybody else experienced these issues?

BEST ANSWER: I have mounted these racks on a 2017 1090 and 1290
And the cross bar does contact the inner fender but has no issue. Make sure all bolts are loose while assembling on bike then tighten bolts after all bolts are installed. They seem to fit great.
Im trying to figure out if this will fit the base model crf250l not rally, other panier rack system say they fit both because they use the same body?

Is the pannier 'loop' a standard size across all Tusk racks and what are its dimensions?

BEST ANSWER: Hello - sorry - I do not know if there is a standard size. But the dimensions of the loop are 11.75in wide by 9in high (center to center) for the Africa Twin set I got about 6 months ago. Also - I am very happy with the racks.
