Details

    The Progressive 465 Series represents state of the art high pressure gas monotube shock design. It utilizes a large 46mm bore and deflective disc piston for precise damping. The beefy 16mm hard chrome shaft rides on custom viton seals for low friction and leak free life. The 465 is custom tuned for each application and is completely optimized for each bike, from the damping and spring rate all the way down to the jounce bumper.

A must for a heavily packed KLR
I'm a big guy (6' 230lbs) and the stock shock on the KLR 650 was just enough for me alone. Loaded down for a camping trip I quickly realized the stock shock was not gonna cut it. I just did my first trip with the new shock and what a huge difference. The bike felt and handled great under a full camping load.

KLR 650 needed this badly. Whole new ride gives ability to push harder off road and on road
Shock and top gun spring has made huge improvement in ride quality. Tracks off road so much better and stays up in travel giving great ride when loaded down on road

If you like to pack anything other than yourself you need this shock. I have the Tusk panniers and the stock shock could barely handle them, the bike would sag like crazy. Now it rides like a dream and sits at the right angle when fully loaded. Only time will tell with durability

465 Shock, but with the Yellow Top Gun Spring
The plan was to put the Top Gun Yellow, 8kg/mm spring on the OEM Kawa shock.. but the shock was in really poor condition, so I purchased the 465 Shock. preloaded it an inch, and installed it. Sat on it, tested it and was not happy with the spring. So, I took the shock off, took the spring out and lined up all three springs on the garage floor, next to the wall and stood on all three springs testing the compression. Of course the OEM spring compressed the most, then the 465 spring compressed about a half in more than the Yellow Top Gun spring. Plus, and this is a major point, the Yellow Top Gun Spring is almost a full inch and half taller. That made me ask: after preload and rider and load, how much travel is left on the 465 spring? So, I installed the Top Gun Yellow Spring in the 465 shock .... I am happy happy. Amazing ride and feel now. I know the 465 spring is rated at 8kg/mm - same as the Top Gun Yellow spring, but the Top Gun spring seems better for a heavy rider with/wo gear. Another point to revisit: When I preloaded the 465 spring and the same preload on the Top Gun Yellow spring, the 465 spring was half way into the threads, and the Top Gun Spring was only an inch a quarter into the threads... shock travel is the point there. I don't necessarily recommend this - it's expensive and probably voids a long list of warranties - but this is what I did, it works for me and I'm happy ! The 465 shock is probably excellent for nearly all riders, but for that few % that really pay attention - .... (my experience includes Mongolia, Western Siberia, Eastern Siberia & Road of Bones)

Great Upgrade but not the same product in the photo
Shock in photo is the one listed here:

However, the shock which I received does not include the RAP. I called customer service and explained my situation and they understood and accepted the return. Major props to their team on that.

I do have the correct shock now (from somewhere else) and it is amazing. If you do not want to shell out for the moab shock this is the best alternative. I've gone through two repairs on the stock KLR shock and even upgraded the spring to the Top Gun 8kg. It did not save that stock shock although there could have been damage elsewhere. After both repairs, I gave up and purchased the progressive shock and its a clear winner. It's a pain changing preload compared to stock but I can deal with that. I'm 180 lbs but often ride fully weighted with camping gear.

Changed my KLR's Personality
I've been riding street for thirty years, so I had no baseline for the KLR or its on and off-road manners. I knew its stock suspension was crap, but not by how much until I upgraded to Progressive components. I replaced the front springs and the rear monotube shock and the difference is amazing. Once I got the pre-load dialed in, my KLR changed personalities into a comfortable off/on road ride with great control and handling. Can't imagine any pre-2014.5 KLR without this upgrade.

Best money I ever spent on the KLR.
After 63,000 miles I decided to upgrade the front suspension. I have since put on 2,000 miles. The improvement in the forks is amazing, small to medium washboard, ruts and ridges virtually disappear. Feels much like the European bikes, however the larger pot holes and bumps are still very noticeable due to limited suspension travel (I believe). I would recommend this upgrade to anyone who rides dirt and gravel roads.

Best upgrade for the KLR650!
I'm 240 lbs and the stock shock on the KLR 650 was garbage. This new progressive spring is nice and firm. Holds perfectly in tight corners and stabilizes the bike so much. It was a little pricey but its well worth it in the end. It completely transforms your KLR into a bike you will not be able to stop riding. Great Dual Purpose shock.

Is this the shock with our without the RAP? The picture shows the RAP but the description doesn't mention that it is included.

BEST ANSWER: The shock for the Klr 650 does not come with the RAP. The adjusters are located on the shock but honestly once you have it dialed in it is a set and forget system.
