Ricochet doesn’t mess around when it comes to protecting your bike and it shows in the construction of their skid plates.

This plate is made from either 5/32" or 3/16" thick aluminum alloy plating and is shaped to give maximum protection to your engine, frame, and cases thanks to the extended "ears" on the sides. Great skid with a little love
I purchased a Ricochet skid for my WR450f and loved it. Fit and finish was perfect, and I put it through heck bouncing off rocks. I am convinced it saved my water pump multiple times.

I recently upgraded to a XCF-W 350 and ordered another Ricochet skid. Overall quality is good, but the front holes were definitely in the wrong place. Maybe they fit another model, by my front motor mount is in the wrong place.

After drilling new holes and chasing threads on the mounts, it should work great.

Keep in mind, this is a heavy skid (almost 3 lbs with hardware). It will take any abuse though.

Pro tip, A little sound deadener makes a big difference in engine noise.

    Looks strong, but noisy
I would have given this skid plate 5 stars, but it does not come with anything to isolate it from the frame. It amplified my motors noise and drove me crazy. I insulated the inside with Dynamat sound deadener and that fixed it right up. Well built and fits perfect.

    Solid skid plate.
Had nothing on my bike previous to this. Seemed to hold up well on our summer trip to Colorado. Good fit and easy to install.

Better on left side for coverage.
A little flush with oil filter cover. But otherwise it would interfere with the rear brake

    Cool mod!
Excellent quality with clean neat welds. Fitment was pretty good. I lined the skid with a poly carpet to deaden sound. Couldn’t tell it was down there, except when I kicked up a giant rock that hit it making a bang my don could hear on his bike behind me. Good job ricochet

Tough As Heck, Built To Last
I've been building out bikes for the last 17 years and this skid plate is as good as anything out there. Built in America and backed by a company that will stand behind their products. It's a great replacement for the OEM plastic plate or for the Japanese bikes that lack a plate all together.

Disappointed. Doesn't protect the sides of the engine very well. 05 CRF450X.
    Disappointed.
I bought this for my 05 CRF450X. It doesn't really cover up much more then the factory plastic skid plates covered. The "wings" seam to only be designed to protect from a front on impact. They taper down too narrow too soon and leave Almost my entire clutch side case unprotected. They also stop right as they get to the clutch case Instead of continuing under it. It does look like a good quality part but maybe it was hastily designed. I wish I would have done more research and bought a plate with better coverage. I only got three of the five bolts to go in (I am an experienced mechanic and can install a skid plate) using just the three bolts I used it can be Installed quickly and easily but I messed with the other two bolts for about half an hour and they just didn't line up right. This plate does cover the entire bottom of the engine and that is a plus. I just really wanted better side-cover protection.

None of this is rmatvs fault. They have always provided me with great customer service. I will shop here again (actually already have. Just placed another order)

    TAT Tested Skid Plate
I've put about 2,000 miles of Trans America Trail on my Ricochet skid plate. It has worked great and you can see the large number of gravel 'dings' it has absorbed directly below the frame and on the 'wings' of the plate. I'm a big fan.

I'm wanting to install this on a 2008 KLR 650 with the Tusk Crash bars installed. Will this fit my ride without having to take the crash bars off to install? Thanks for the help!

What's the difference between the aluminum skit plate and the anodized black skid plate??? Also I have a 2013 Kawasaki klr 650 and I installed the tusk crash bars.. Is there any other skid plate that will fit with the tusk crash bars??
    Thank you
    Michael F on Nov 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Anodizing is a simple electrochemical process developed more than 75 years ago that forms a protective coating of aluminum oxide on the surface of the aluminum. The lifetime of the finish is proportional to the thickness of the anodic coating applied.

what kind of clamps doe's this use ?
    BARRY K on Mar 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I mounted this on a Kawasaki KLX 250 and I used the 2 bolts from the factory skip plate to secure the back of the plate. In front of the plate there were 2 clamps that came with the plate and clamp onto the frame secured by a bolt that goes through the plate and the clamp. I think that the plate comes with the appropriate hardware for the bike you are fitting it on. I'm really happy with the plate.

I have an ‘08 KLX 450R. The sub frame is square. I noticed in the pictures that the brackets are rounded. Do they come squared to fit the subframe on the KLX?
    Grady H on Nov 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: For the one I bought they were round and no square brackets were included. But why use the brackets if you can locat and drill hole in the plate to match the frame you should be able to go without the brackets. I only used a couple of the brackets

Alternatively you could shape the brackets with a vise and hammer

    Good luck

Can you get replacement mounts for this skid plate?
    A shopper on Jul 25, 2017

installation - do i need to remove the small front bar on the xr650l before installing this skid plate? i cannot see where the screws underneath connect to? is this a requirement for the xr650l install? Anyone have pics on where they put the clamps they can show me?

    Terry J on May 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It has been a while sense I installed the plate. I remember it lining up with no issue what so ever. I would remove any factory skid plates or protection this plate should bolt directly to the frame. If it does not send it back you might have been sent the wrong one. Good luck mate!
okay , has anyone used this skidlplate on a RM250 ,if so what kind of clamps ?
    BARRY K on Mar 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I installed one on a 06rm. The clamps are like conduit clamps. A circle cut in half that wraps around the frame and a tapped flange that screws into the plate itself. Real simple to install just a pain to hold it in position and start the bolts.
Does this work with Tusk crash bars on a 2012 klr 650?
    Nathan G on Aug 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I had both on a '15 KLR without issue. Solid plate!
I have a 2016 Yamaha XT 250 (Duel Sport) and I just ordered and received a Ricochet skid plate on line though you guys. However it doesn't fit. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I bought the bike new from a dealer here in California.
There is a funny looking part that is welded to frame right where the upper left hand corner of the plate wants to go. It looks like a filter of some kind about 8 inches in circumference and about 5 inches tall with a couple of small rubber hoses going into it. One of the hoses comes from the gas tank near the top of the tank.

Could this be something required on California bikes only? They have a few rules and regulations that most other states do not require. 'The plate looks great but it wont fit with that filter-type part there. I am wondering if someone makes a skidplate that will accommodate this or is the filter something that can be removed?
    Steve J on Jul 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: From what I have found, California does have different emissions regulations so they add parts to the bike to keep the emissions down. This would need to be removed in order for the skid plate to work but that might cause issues if you are continuing to run the bike in California. Unfortunately I dont show that we carry anything else that would fit with the extra parts for the California models.
