    Armour for the Steed
The Ricochet plate is substantial in its coverage and heft. A worthy addition to protect from below. Would suggest a better line diagram or a photo for installation purposes. The written instructions were pretty lean.

Very good , strong product and the best price anywhere. Had it in 2 days.
Great product ..,perfect fit on my ‘16 Yamaha XT 250.
But trash the included screws. Bought Allen head screws instead , then promptly stripped the 4mm allen head . Bought hardened 12 mm bolts, flat washers and lock nuts and worked great.
Also when running, sounded like the engine was throwing a rod . Order the sound deadner as others recommended. It reflects the engine noise a lot.

    Great value, highly recommended.
Easy to install. Thick and sturdy. I haven’t taken any huge rocks to the guard yet but I have no reason to believe it won’t do it’s job great. I like how it wraps around the sides a little to protect the front sides of the case. Not the most aesthetically pleasing accessory but it’s a tank!
Fits and looks great on my DR650.

Still holding even after 2 years!
I've had this on my bike for over 2 years now and It's still holding up. There are a few dings and dents but it's doing it job protecting the cases. It took more time than I initially thought it would take to install, because it's a tight fit but, I does fit my XR650R perfectly.

Nice robust quality product. Installation was cumbersome trying to get the clamps lined up all at once and with very minimal space for hands. I was a little disappointed that the 1 1/8” clamps didn’t quite fit the frame size and also one on the right side seems like it’s not quite seated.

    Heavy Duty
I ride a lot of gravel roads and some of it is big gravel for heavy truck traffic. I was concerned with the large gravel pinging off my crankcase and my oil drain plug hanging just below the frame tubes so, I ordered this for a little peace of mind. Easy install and perfect fit on the KLR. It did increase engine noise a bit but, not noticeable while I'm moving. Best price of any skid plate I looked at and looks and feels bulletproof. I like that it protects the water pump and alternator covers on the sides. Great product at a fair price.

    Easy enough to install
The skid plate was easy enough to install. Just remember to keep the bolts loose until you've mounted it then tighten it all down. It would be better if the lower mounting bolts came with an allen head bolt instead of a t-40 torque head bolt. One more added tool.

Ricochet Skidplate on my 2013 KLR650
The Ricochet Skidplate does the job protecting the KLR's underside and a decent amount of the side cases. Just finished a 160 mile off-road trip in central Arizona, hard pack, gravel, sand, and medium to large rocky terrain with no damage incurred. Easy install, great fit and finish and a decent price. If you have a KLR you best get yourself one!

What's the difference between the aluminum skit plate and the anodized black skid plate??? Also I have a 2013 Kawasaki klr 650 and I installed the tusk crash bars.. Is there any other skid plate that will fit with the tusk crash bars??
    Thank you
    Michael F on Nov 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Anodizing is a simple electrochemical process developed more than 75 years ago that forms a protective coating of aluminum oxide on the surface of the aluminum. The lifetime of the finish is proportional to the thickness of the anodic coating applied.
what kind of clamps doe's this use ?
    BARRY K on Mar 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I mounted this on a Kawasaki KLX 250 and I used the 2 bolts from the factory skip plate to secure the back of the plate. In front of the plate there were 2 clamps that came with the plate and clamp onto the frame secured by a bolt that goes through the plate and the clamp. I think that the plate comes with the appropriate hardware for the bike you are fitting it on. I'm really happy with the plate.
I searched all feedback but couldn’t find anything specific to my bike.

Can you get replacement mounts for this skid plate?
    A shopper on Jul 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I haven't needed replacement mounts since I've initially put it on. It's been very secure and I've been grateful it's been there on many occasions. So far I've only had to tighten them once and I used a thread locker to help.
I just had this delivered for my 2012 we. What are the brackets for? Does this not just bolt into the original threaded holes where the plastic one was?
    Sam S on Apr 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: On my bike the holes do not line up. The brackets wrap over the top of the frame rails and the bolt runs up through the skid plate into the bracket. I actually wound up mounting mine in place with the engine removed because I had hard time getting things lined up around the engine case.
If the original holes line up, definitely use those.
Other than that, it really is a really good quality unit.
Does installation on KLR 650 require any modifications to the plate or fasteners?
    Eldon H on Mar 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: My KLR 605 is a 2016, I did not have to do any modifications and I used provided hardware. It took a bit of time and patience, just take it slow, Just like most anything that a person has not installed before. More: the stock oil drain plug does protrude slightly past the new guard. You will want to buy the low head drain plug.
I have an ‘08 KLX 450R. The sub frame is square. I noticed in the pictures that the brackets are rounded. Do they come squared to fit the subframe on the KLX?
    Grady H on Nov 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: For the one I bought they were round and no square brackets were included. But why use the brackets if you can locat and drill hole in the plate to match the frame you should be able to go without the brackets. I only used a couple of the brackets

Alternatively you could shape the brackets with a vise and hammer

    Good luck
I have a 2008 KLX 450R with a boyesen waterpump installed. Will this fit?
    Grady H on Oct 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I’m sorry, I’m not able to answer, meaning I used the skid plate on a KLR 650 2008. However, I would think it would the Boyesen pump is very similar to a stock pump in the over all width.

installation - do i need to remove the small front bar on the xr650l before installing this skid plate? i cannot see where the screws underneath connect to? is this a requirement for the xr650l install? Anyone have pics on where they put the clamps they can show me?

    Terry J on May 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It has been a while sense I installed the plate. I remember it lining up with no issue what so ever. I would remove any factory skid plates or protection this plate should bolt directly to the frame. If it does not send it back you might have been sent the wrong one. Good luck mate!
okay , has anyone used this skidlplate on a RM250 ,if so what kind of clamps ?
    BARRY K on Mar 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I installed one on a 06rm. The clamps are like conduit clamps. A circle cut in half that wraps around the frame and a tapped flange that screws into the plate itself. Real simple to install just a pain to hold it in position and start the bolts.
I have a 2016 Yamaha XT 250 (Duel Sport) and I just ordered and received a Ricochet skid plate on line though you guys. However it doesn't fit. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I bought the bike new from a dealer here in California.
There is a funny looking part that is welded to frame right where the upper left hand corner of the plate wants to go. It looks like a filter of some kind about 8 inches in circumference and about 5 inches tall with a couple of small rubber hoses going into it. One of the hoses comes from the gas tank near the top of the tank.

Could this be something required on California bikes only? They have a few rules and regulations that most other states do not require. 'The plate looks great but it wont fit with that filter-type part there. I am wondering if someone makes a skidplate that will accommodate this or is the filter something that can be removed?
    Steve J on Jul 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: From what I have found, California does have different emissions regulations so they add parts to the bike to keep the emissions down. This would need to be removed in order for the skid plate to work but that might cause issues if you are continuing to run the bike in California. Unfortunately I dont show that we carry anything else that would fit with the extra parts for the California models.
