Details

The Alpinestars Tech 5 Boots are a rare offering that manages to walk the thin line between price, comfort, and protection. With the Tech 5 you’re getting a newly redesigned motocross boot that falls right in the middle of the Astars lineup for price not far off the Tech 3, but with features normally found on higher end boots like the Tech 7.

For support and protection the Tech 5 covers you with a large layout of TPU impact panels covering the shin, toe box, and ankle areas. You also get a single biomechanical hinge on the medial side of the boot, a trademark feature typically found on much higher priced off road boots. For comfort the Tech 5 supplies you with a breathable inner lining, a longwearing but grippy sole, and a set of new-school self-adjusting buckles that give you a positive lock and plenty of comfort when your foot is buckled in.

With a list of features this long its obvious Alpinestars has taken the Tech 5 to the next level. Get yourself performance, comfort, and protection at a price that won’t leave you broke with the Tech 5 motocross boots from Astars.

Great boot for the money
Good boot for the money, runs about a half a size large, so buy a little smaller than your normal street shoe as the stretch and pack out some after break in.

First boot back!
Bought these as my first boot getting back into riding again. I needed something that was inexpensive but good quality. I got everything I paid for with these boots and they have performed very well so far!

Very happy
I couldn't decide between Tech 5 or Tech 7 boots, I tried both on and comfort and fit felt exactly the same to me. Because I'm not a competitive rider I decided that the 5's would be good for my needs and about 100 dollars cheaper. I didn't need the extra articulation of the double hinged ankle on the Tech 7's, and the only other feature I noticed on the 7's over the 5's is the buckles on the 5's are plastic and on the 7's they're metal. I don't think it's going to make any difference for me. I tried on Fox Comp 5 & Comp 8, O'neill, Ansr, and Thor boots before going with the Alpinestars. They were by far the most comfortable and best fitting and the buckle system is way easier to use than the ones on many other brands of boots.

The boots are very comfortable right out of the box, I put them on, adjusted the buckles, and immediately went out for a ride. I'm very happy with my purchase so far. The only complaint I have is that the toe box is bigger than it needs to be for my feet. The large toe area makes them comfortable to wear having lots of toe wiggle room, however it makes it hard to get my toe under the shifter on my quad. Hopefully as they break in more this problem will go away, otherwise I'll have to adjust the shifter or get a longer one that my foot will fit under while wearing these boots.

The only reason I didn't rate the durability is because I haven't had them long enough to see how long they will hold up in the long term, however I've heard they'll last a few years if taken care of. I gave 3 out of 5 for value because there are a lot of cheaper options out there, if the cheaper boots fit you then by all means save your money. For me, the Alpinestars were the only boot that fit comfortably. I also really like the buckle system and the look. My pair is all black with white Astar logo and I think they look great.

Eh.
I'm not a huge fan. The bad : They are hot, narrow, and hard to get cinched up tightly without the plastic straps slipping. If you walk more than three steps they pinch your ankles weird and give you blisters. The soles are too hard and slip even on sharp pegs.
The good: They are water resistant and look good.

I've tried a lot of boots, these suck but are better than most.
When these were new I liked them a lot other than the buckles coming undone, losing straps and their ability to absorb water (not just leak, the material soaks up moisture and it stays). Now that I've used them for a couple months the 'leather' has become flimsy and, the boot has a lot less ankle support and I have to keep adjusting the straps tighter because the boots are stretching.

Does anyone know the difference between the tech 5 and tech 7?
Cody H on Sep 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I own both. They are similar inside and out. 7 has metal buckles and hinges on both sides. This makes the boot MUCH more flexable. This is very noticeable when braking/ shifting. For motocross the 7 is superior. The 5 is a good boot for casual riding like trails and off road stuff.
Are the boots the same size as regular shoes? Does it come in wide or narrow?
A shopper on Jan 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I wear new balance shoes because you can get them in 4E width. I was worried that this boot might be too constrictive. To my surprise, this boot is very roomy, without being loose. I usually wear 10 1/2 so i bought size 11 boots. i can wear thin or thick socks with them i just need to adjust the boot for the sock but there is still plenty of wiggle room while still being very supportive.
GREAT BOOT! you really can't go wrong.
Are these boots hard to keep clean? I'm a little worried about the white. I bought them, and they are on the way, but does anyone have any tips for keeping bring white/red clean?
Tim B on Feb 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Nothing is forever, it the Tech 5's will look great for a long time if you take care of them. My advice is to clean them (wipe them down) after you're done riding for the day. Just use a towel with some warm soapy water. I recommend the same for your helmet liner. Hope that helps.
Are these boots an upgrade from the tech 1's?
Vincent M on Apr 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't know. I had tech 3's and the tech 5's are a major updgrade from them. Way better buckle system and much more comfortable. If you have tech 1's, I can pretty much guarantee you you'll love the tech 5's. I've had mine for several years and I ride at least once a week- 2 -3 times a week in the summer. My tech 5's are still in excellent condition. When they wear out I will buy another pair without hesitation and I will get the best price from my buddies at Rocky Mtn. What more can I say??
Are these flexible enough to stretch foot out downwards? (Like for a Shorter rider to touch still decently) or would tech 7s be the only option.
Lloyd C on Aug 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I am short legged too and my Tech 5 Boots work really well they pivot pretty good for a boot with a alot of plastic on them but not as good as the older boots that where all leather but I thick you would be fine with the tech 5 Boot .
How do the tech 5 fit and feel compared to the tech 6 boot?
Brad C on May 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Tech 5. Are more narrow than the t-6 and seem to feel like your wearing a high heal when walking in them
The buckles and craftsmanship is quality
Just too narrow for me
I miss the T-6
Do these boots have the same buckles as the Tech 7s?
Luke F on Jul 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. More plastic.
