By taking the F2 Carbon’s framework and working in injury reducing MIPS technology, the Fly Racing F2 Carbon MIPS Retrospec Helmet delivers premium levels of performance and quality at a price that’s still affordable for most riders.

The foundation of the F2 Carbon MIPS helmet is the same super-lightweight, super-strong carbon Kevlar composite shell used in the standard F2 carbon, and it’s still a premium performer with a trim weight around the 3.3 pound mark and passing grades for both DOT and SNELL certifications.

Where the F2 Carbon MIPS distinguishes itself from other Fly helmets, and most other helmets on the market, is in the MIPS protection layer. By putting this low-friction slip layer in the F2 Carbon, the helmet does a much better job at redirecting angular impact forces and preventing head trauma. It also moves the helmet up to the top tier of protection currently offered from off-road/motocross helmets and justifies the price over the standard F2 Carbon models.

The rest of the F2 Carbon MIPS is just as premium as the protection scheme because of features like the large layout of circulation vents arranged in key areas like the brow and back of the neck, and the comfort promoting Coolmax® liner that’s moisture wicking as well as entirely removable/washable.

Specs:
  • SNELL 2015 and DOT approved – meets or exceeds safety standards
  • Carbon fiber Kevlar composite shell – creates superior strength and a very light weight
  • Weighs around 3.3 pounds
  • MIPS® low-friction layer absorbs rotational forces during impacts for greater protection than standard EPS helmets
  • Flow through circulation system maximizes airflow in both the EPS and comfort liner
  • Dual density EPS liner combines two layers of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene), one softer, one slightly harder to provide more progressive impact absorption for different levels of impact
  • Multi-port air induction cooling system creates massive airflow to keep head cool
  • 11 intake ports and 4 exhaust vents located in critical areas
  • Intake vents above eye port draw air away from goggle to prevent fogging
  • Molded rubber trim with integrated nose guard deflects rocks and debris
  • Coolmax® comfort liner & cheek pads wick moisture and promote ventilation
  • Coolmax® comfort liner is quick release, easy to remove and entirely washable
  • Super-strong, lightweight machined aluminum visor screws
  • Stainless steel rivets and D-rings give superior strength and years of use
  • Optional carbon fiber intake vent wing can be added to the helmet for increased direction of airflow on the front vents

    MIPS (Multi-Directional Protection System)
MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is a specialized helmet safety technology that is now being used in the top tier of off road helmets in order to greatly lessen the chances of traumatic brain injury.

By integrating an engineered low-friction layer into the liner of the helmet, MIPS enables a relative sliding motion between the head and the helmet so angular and rotational impact forces are absorbed and deflected.

Since most head impacts occur at oblique and unpredictable angles, helmets with MIPS Technology are able to offer better protection than helmets without.
