Not bad for the price.
The pants fit very well. The waist closure is very easy to use. Pockets are deep so any loose coins will not be easy to retrieve. The seemed to repell water nicely. However, when riding in the rain, the water will run down from the the knee and right into the boots.

Good value
For the value, you get quite a bit. Adjustable hip straps, with ratchet front buckle, generous pocket size, and accordion knees. Pretty darn durable too. Only gripe, is they are quite warm on the hot summer days

Not good if you were knee braces
I also have the Summit MSR. 5 stars. These are too tight around my knee braces, the inner mesh product catches on the velcro and makes putting the pants on and off difficult. My zipper used to stick at the bottom. Now it comes off.
My advice, get the MSR Summit, they are better fitting and don't have the same snaging plus zipper problems

Comfortable
Great pant so far. No big crash to review durability yet but they’re comfortable like you’re not wearing anything while on the bike

Great value
Great value on special offer. TIght fit and a bit stiff. Not a great amount of room for knee guards.

MSR Forever!
Very happy with these pants. They seem durable and well built. Leather in the knee area. I have two pair. The pockets are narrow but work perfectly for an iPhone, keys or wallet.

Sorry Plastic Zipper
The FIRST ride, within the first 15 minutes, the cheap plastic zipper separated. An unzip and re-zip solved the problem; for 15 minutes. And that's how the rest of that day went. Since they were bought on a close-out sale, a return didn't seem to be an option, so I laid them back for some possible time in the future when someone 2 sizes small might be able to use them but then forgot why they were set back, until I used them the second time. Yep. Zipper had to be re-zipped every few minutes, just like before. The pants fit well, appeared to be otherwise made well, and were very nice and comfortable pants except for the cheap zipper. I will never try another pair of MSR pants because of these. i strongly recommend that you never try a pair of MSR pants, unless you like having your private parts hanging out for all the world to see.

Great MSR Pants
I purchased the MSR Xplorer Ascent Pant on clearance for my Son. He's 6' and 160 lbs - medium build. He wears size 32 to 34 in regular pants, so we purchased size 34 and fit is great. Fit's well and well constructed. These have pockets, so that's a great when riding trails. Has side adjustments too. I was hoping to find a pair for my other Son in the right color, but since they are on clearance it is hit-or-miss and it was a miss. I have a pair too and love them.

Are these in the boot or outside?
Ryan R on Jul 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Xplorer pants are in the boot. I'd like to mention that I found them short from hip to knee and one seam across the bend in the knee is tight and tends to get into your leg. I'm 5' 10" 180ish and don't have big legs. I didn't like them.
How big are the cargo pockets? Will they hold wallet and Samsung Galaxy phone? Any other suggestions for riding pants with pockets?
Brian W on May 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Pockets are large. They'll easily hold the items that you listed. You could easily fit a paperback novel in each one if your legs are skinny enough. The only concern is that stuffing the pockets will cause you to notice that they're stuffed; the pants will fit and move a little bit differently if the pockets are over filled. I use the pockets for a goggle wiper and energy gels or chews, and trail notes or ride maps.
Do these have hip pads or pockets for hip pads?
James on Dec 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No hip pads or pockets for them, does have velcro tabs sewn in the inside waist band for them
Are the MSR Explorer Ascent pants for summer dirt bike riding, or more for like snowmobiling?
A shopper on Feb 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Xplorer Ascent line is MSR’s middle tier off-road gear and is meant for off road riding. They can be used in cold weather with some sort of base layer, but they're designed for warmer weather riding.
