    Details

Dirt Tricks testing has determined that the OEM dome washer is made of mildly heat treated material. When that component is installed under a tightened counter-shaft bolt, it is taken well beyond it’s "yield" or "elastic" limit and permanently deforms. In that condition in cannot maintain the thrust pressure necessary to keep the sprocket tight to the splined shaft. That leads to two different failures. First, as described above, the O-ring is allowed enough clearance that it begins seeping. Secondly, the backlash between the splined shaft and sprocket is allowed to more freely pound in each direction, as the torque of power verses compression reverses itself.
Dirt Tricks has developed a tool steel, heat-treated dome washer that develops two to three times the pre-load force without reaching it’s elastic limit and without over-stressing the mating components. This solves O-ring leakage as well as extending the life of both the counter-shaft and sprocket splines. A counter-shaft replacement alone, with labor costs in excess of $700.
If you plan to keep your KTM four-stroke for many seasons this product is well worth the investment.

    DT sprocket washer
Bought this as all Dirt Tricks products are excellent! Run their discs and sprockets

My washer failed (radial thru wall crack) and was replaced by DT free of charge. DT explained that they had a batch with poor heat treatment, which caused it to crack

I plan to keep this Husky for many miles and hope that it will keep sprocket/countershaft tight

    not worth it
This is the only product I have bought for my bike that was a let down. I installed this washer when I changed out my front sprocket and 6 months later I noticed it was cracked in half. Rocky Mountain was very kind to replace it for me. So I installed the replacement part and torqued the sprocket bolt again to manufactures specs and about 4 months later the same thing happened. I installed the factory washer and I have not had any problems from it. I would never buy this again.

    It Works But.....
The dirt tricks washer works but be careful, make sure that after you have torqued your countershaft bolt the washer won't spin. I didn't do that and after 2 rides my countershaft started leaking and that's when I noticed that the washer wasn't tight against the sprocket and I could spin it with my fingers. The reason it was spinning was because the sprocket I purchased was thinner than the stock sprocket and the bolt was bottoming out before it could make contact with the washer. So I had to use the stock washer then the Dirt Tricks washer to make up the difference and now, I've had 5 rides on it and no sign of leaking.

    Broke right away
This Dirt Tricks dome washer was installed correctly, and torqued correctly. It broke in half after only 1 ride! Back to the stock item for me.

Is this supposed to spin on the sprocket when the bolt is tightened?
    Craig M on May 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It might spin when you first start to tighten the bolt. After you have tighten the bolt to the factory torque specs the spring washer should not spin freely on the sprocket.
