Overall a GREAT addition to the Rally!
I purchased these pannier racks for 3 reasons:
-they would safely support soft luggage for adventure touring trips
-they would provide a level of bodywork protection in the event of a crash
-the rear top rack provides an excellent platform for mounting a small bag for daytrips on the bike (the Honda CRF250L Rally has a tank shape that's not easy to mount a tankbag to...the rear top rack becomes a critical feature).

The instructions that were provided with the rack were absolutely fantastic and installation was actually fairly straightforward. The only tiny issue I had was getting the 4th bolt to fit at the toprack/siderack interface, and that was my reasoning behind my rating of 4 on the "Fitment" question (I eventually just drilled another hole and then it fit fine).

Thankfully, I have not yet tested these racks in a crash (may I never!), but I believe they will serve my desired purposes rather well. I also think that they look magnificent on the Rally and make it appear ready for any adventure I might throw at it.

    Budget minded Pannier Rack
I purchased this rack for my KTM 1090R based on price, ability to mount previously owned Hard Panniers as well as soft panniers down the line. The crash protection is a bonus as well.

The first rack I received was a little disappointing. One of the tubes wasn't fully welded and the mounting for the rotopax mount bar was incorrect so I had to source my own hardware as the included hardware hit the rack frame.

I ended up returning that rack and getting a new one which fits much better. It was kind of a pain but worth it in the end. For the price they really can't be beat.

So far I have mounted Happy Trails Panniers to them and they work great.

    KLR racks
Installed on my KLR and fit pretty well, not bad for install either. Could have had better welds in a place or two. Use with soft panniers and have had no issues.

Seemed to fit pretty good and look good. Instructions were a little vague on mounting the turn signal extensions and pictures were hard to see but video they have cleared that up.

Tusk products just amaze me. Great quality, fit and finish for a budge price. Thanks Tusk for letting us "non rich guys" enjoy the sport of adventure riding and touring. Keep up the good work. I highly recommend these pannier racks. Also, per other reviews don't take off the rear Hond rack to install these, just carefully drill through the holes into the fender and save your self the time and frustration of removing the rear rack. Install took less than 30 minutes and was as simple as simple gets. Go out and enjoy.

Why pay an outrageous price when you can buy the tusk pannier racks. I use mine with a set of Nelson Rigg soft panniers (model 3050). Fitment is excellent and installation is so easy a caveman could do it. I only cursed once during the install which is a record for me. The black looks great on my 1090 adventure as well. Its nice to know there is a manufacturer out there that realizes all of us adventure riders arent Bill Gates.

Tusk pannier racks and top rack
Let me start off by saying I am a great fan of the Tusk pannier racks. I have bought three sets from RMATV and have tested the first two everywhere from daily store runs to multi week, multi state adventure rides focusing on ghost towns and abandoned gold mines. The first set was mounted on my 2016 KTM 1190 R and the second set on my 2015 KLR 650. I have crashes hard fully loaded and had a dent and a little rebending to do to get back to serviceable. The racks are bulletproof and the boxes hold up well to use and abuse.Even if I completely destroyed a box, which I have not, I could buy a complete rack and box set up for less than most single boxes cost. I have both large and small boxes as well as a set of aluminum plates I built using box mounts so I can use these for rotopax and soft luggage and still be quick release.
Having spent so much time on creating a system, and because I was so happy with the Tusk sets, I wanted the same racks for my Husqvarna 701. Almost as soon as RMATV created them I ordered a set. They were of the same quality I had come to expect and the top rack was awesome. Large and solid. I had a minor fitment issue and contacted RMATV. Very quickly I was hooked up with a member of the design team. We emailed and talked on the phone to resolve my issue. Just as importantly they gathered information from me including pictures and specifications. This was to not only resolve my issue but to ensure the product was properly built and to avoid potential problems for future buyers. I would give 10 stars for their customer support which is why I will recommend them to others without question. My issue was resolved and it appeared it was an issue directly related to my individual bike. Once fitted the racks were solid, clean, and good looking. I am now able to carry any of the items I already had for my other bikes and most importantly carry up to 3.5 extra gallons of fuel. This doubles the range of my bike.

Awesome for protecting rear of KTM 1190
They are awesome value!!! Strong, easy to install, symetrical, hold a 1 gallon RotoPax without impeding protection or storage. I really don't use them for mounting Pannier because I don't like "fat bikes". I did want the protection of the turn signals, exhaust, and the ability to strap things too.
I did find some very sturdy "Rigid" hardware containers that are water-proof and not very wide. I attached them to the pannier mounts and can slip them on and off in 2 seconds. They are only 7" thick, so not as wide as most panniers. Anyway, I also had these racks powder coated to match the KTM orange. Protection, storage, RotoPax, quick release Pannier box mounts and very affordable!

    -m-2015 KTM 1190 Adventure--
This is the quick mount after I attached it to the Rigid Hardware Boxes.
This is the pannier quick mount that comes with the racks.
This is the Tusk racks (I had powder coated orange) with the narrow "Panniers" in case I need them.
Top view - notice they are not real wide and are symmetrical.
This is why I bought them - protection. Panniers may never be used...

I have a set of Tusk racks on my KTM 1190 ADV, I'd like to add a Rotopax fuel can. What is the optimal size to fit this rack? It appears to be the 1.75 gallon can, but I can't be sure.
    Thanks.
    A shopper on Nov 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I use 2 one gallon rotopax containers on my Tusk pannier racks. I am able to strap them on using 2 cargo straps in an x configuration. Additionally I use the large pannier boxes which I have mounted rotopax mounts on the top. I ride to camp, remove the boxes, strap on the rotopax, and I am carring extra fuel in a light set up.

Are there racks available that will fit the Yamaha XT250 .. perhaps with some home-toolshop modification/s?
    Brian S on Feb 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I think that they will fit your bike. Just order it under the xr250 or the other 250 Yamaha style. If you already have a set Of racks you may be able to put just the boxes. But you wouldn't be able to remove them. These are really big boxes for a 250. Just so you know... and there are 2 sizes. Big and bigger. I am happy with mine... i still had to do a bit of shall we say finesseing To get a fit but nothing major. Better than my original boxes.
can the pin assembly be removed from the rack frame or is the pin permanently in there?

Is there a way to relocate the quick release cable to be inside the box? I think its way too easy for someone to pull the boxes off and steal them. I'd feel way better about a way to pull that cable from inside the box. Keep the box locked from the outside and when you want to remove them open it and release from inside.

is there any way to accommodate a passenger with this mounting rack system ?? i would really like to maintain my ability to do this
    aaron s on Apr 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can still have a passenger with the Tusk boxes on the bike. No problem.

A couple things to consider with these boxes is that if you're doing aggressive off roading where you might need to put a foot down, then a soft bag might be a better choice to avoid hurting your legs. Another thing is that if you live in a state where lane splitting is legal then these do make the bike a bit wider in the rear. I don't feel as comfortable splitting lanes with these boxes mounted. Other than that, they're a great affordable product.
Can you still use passenger pegs on the KTM 690 enduro with the Tusk pannier racks? The video show some on there, the description says they are removed. Thanks
    Donald F on Dec 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: on a 2016 690 the stock pegs must be removed. The rack has a location ( hole ) to mount a footpeg BUT it will not accommodate the stock KTM pegs.
Where is the optional included rotopax mounting bar?
    Samuel H on Feb 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I was not aware of a *included* optional rotopax mounting bar. I don't recall seeing anything about it prior to ordering. Cheers!
Are the Tusk racks made to be symmetrical in relation to the bike and account for a wide exhaust on one side of a bike like the KTM 1190 Adventure?
    Robert C on Oct 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Fits my 1190 beautifully! They are symmetrical, this means that there left side panniers leaves a bit of space between the bike and pannier, Tusk have included a mounting point for a Rotopax system in this space so that it can be used, I also strap my camping chair into this space.
I can't speak highly enough of Mr Tusk panniers, I have also stopped there bikes on then more than once with boxes both on and off, once at speed which saved my expensive Zard full carbon exhaust and other times with the boxes on and they have loved to tell the tale over and over.
    I would highly recommend these.
How do you mount rotopax fuel containers to tusk pannier racks?
    Robert P on Mar 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The center of the Tusk mounting plates do not allow for mounting of the Rotopax containers. I recommend mounting a flat aluminum plate to the removable brackets of the rack thus allowing you to mount the center securement assembly for the rotopax. I think this would work well with throw over / soft pannier bags which would provide extra protection for the Rotopax
how do you mount the rotopax mounting plate on the 950 adventure rack?
    John C on Mar 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm not 100% sure the 950 is the same as the 1190, but on my 1190, Tusk has a cross piece on the left (shifter) side for the RotoPax adapter to mount to. It is not shown in the picture, but the bar is there. You will need to buy the RotoPax and the RotoPax Adapter separately. What is very nice (at least for the 1190), is the panniers are spaced out the same so the bike is symmetrical from the rear. Since the exhaust is inside the pannier rack on the right, the open space on the left is then filled with the RotoPax. Should you fall to the left, the RotoPax is protected by the Pannier Rack (RotoPax is stored between the rear wheel and the pannier rack).
WR250R...is the Tusk Racks symmetrical? I would like to add either a Rotopax or tool tube on the inside of the left rack.
    Kurt on Oct 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes and No, there is room to mount a tool tube however with the cross bar a Rotopax will not fit. At least a 2 gal will not fit, I do not have 1 gal to test fit.
Can this be made to work with Honda CB500X?

Is there a plate for this rack that mounts a one gallon rotopax, or do you have to make your own? 2015 DRZ400S.
    Eric B on Jan 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: There is not a plate per se. There are mounting brackets both sides that you could attach a plate to attach the Rotopax hardware. I would buy a second set of mounting brackets for the tusk rack that way you could easily switch out the rotopax to panniers and back.

    Will the 2017 KTM 690 Enduro rack work on a 2017 Husky 701 E?
    A shopper on Aug 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: probably, I don't have the Husky 701, but it is basically the same bike, just blue instead of orange. I think it's a very good rack. On retrospec I should have bought the Touratech rack because my touratech aluminum bags and my Kriega plates doe not fit on it. I was hoping to be able to swap between all my bikes. You can not do that. The Tusk racks and Aluminum combo is the cheapest way you can go and the quality is top notch. I bought a pair for my son in law's KLR.

BEST ANSWER: I cannot say if this racking system will fit your bike it fits perfectly on my drz650. I have a 2012 bmw r1200gs adventure. Exhaust is on the left side. Will the tusk rack for 2012 gs as noted fit my bike??
    John K on Nov 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: To be honest I have a KLR650 so I can only speak to that specific rack. Based on the RM pics It appears it will fit. I had assemble it loose and tighten equally around the set up. I did have an issue as do most people with any rack system the holes aren’t exactly true to the rear sub-frame. But that was on a used klr that I bought. This set up should work well for your GS. Good luck have fun. They are excellent racks !!
