    Poor performance

Comments On Jan 29, 2015:Failed after about 500 miles. Frustrating because it was day one of a two week trip. When I returned I took it apart and found that an inductor came loose inside. Resoldered and worked. Now this morning it stopped charging again. Really not worth the time to purchase and install. Can't recommend.

    Typical passable Tusk build quality

Comments On Sep 08, 2014:I installed one of these USB outlets in a custom power box (with other controls, switches, etc) about a year/6000 miles ago and it's worked great.

    not made for offroad

Comments On Jun 30, 2014:Rocky mountain sent me a replacement after the first one went out within a hundred miles of riding. The replacement had improved design. The replacement lasted about 1000 miles, over a 4 days ride dual sport ride. I imagine it might do just fine for road applications but not off-road. Tore power socket apart to find the capacitor had broken off the board. Filling the socket with epoxy would help improve the design. Still love rocky mountain ATV.

Great Design - Not So Durable

Comments On Jul 03, 2014:Mounted this on my KLR 650. Exterior quality and design appear sound. However, like Anne's review, mine stopped working shortly after installation (linked up to a Eastern Beaver PC-8 power bus with the appropriately rated fuse). I haven't opened the device to diagnose the problem, but I suspect it may be due to vibrations from some of the rough riding I've done on the KLR.

    Broke down after 100 miles

Comments On Jun 19, 2013:Despite the sturdy look, and nicely finished exterior (it must be really waterproof), it broke down after 100 miles. Ok, the XT 350 puts quite some strain (vibration) on the device but this should be anticipated. What actually happened, is that a heavy component (inductor) on the PCB was not fixed properly. There was very little silicon applied to keep it in place. I will ask for a replacement and will properly pot it with epoxy myself. I still like the mechanical design, that's why I gave it 2 stars.
