  • The Dunlop MX51 Geomax tire has a profile design with more tread volume (greater land/sea ratio) in the shoulders for excellent cornering grip and a more open center-tread area for straight-line grip.
  • Recessed biting edges in shoulder tread blocks yield more traction for greater grip, especially in corners and ruts.
  • Chiseled shoulder block shape improves the tires side traction and makes traversing ruts easier. This tapered shape facilitates knob penetration through soft surfaces, whereas a flat knob would "float" and/or be deflected. Instead, the tapered knob penetrates into the firmer underlying ground to give the tire more bite for more traction.
  • Tie-bar design connects and reinforces the tread blocks for greater tread stiffness, yielding improved intermediate-to-hard terrain performance.
  • Recess design in the area between tread blocks gives the tire improved compliance for enhanced ride comfort.

Love this tire

Comments On Feb 02, 2015:We ride on a mix of hard pack, loose dirt, sand and occasional mud. This tire seems to be a good mid-range tire that works well for us as intermediate riders. Wears well.

Good tires

Comments On Jan 11, 2015:Great dirt tires, good traction and hook up - as far as the blacktop goes, probably don't wear too well - but what do you expect from dirt tires?

MX51 Front not a Offroad/Desert tire

Comments On Nov 30, 2014:After using the MX51 Front on the LA-B2V Dual Sport ride across 450 miles of California and Nevada Desert I will not recommend this tire to anyone. This tire would feel flat on slower trails. It would wander and knife in the sand. On the hard pack it would washout without any warning. Hitting rocks would cause it to slam the rim. There was not a single surface that the MX51 would perform in. The MX51 ruined my confidence, almost ruined my ride, ruined my hand guards, and ruined my jacket with the fall took when it washed out on a desert road. Maybe the MX51 is a Moto only tire. Maybe it works great on a groomed and watered MX track. But for Desert riding the MX51 rates a NEGATIVE 5 Star!

Comments On Oct 15, 2014:Nice tire, hooks up well and wears pretty good on intermediate terrain. Chunks up a bit on hard pack sx track. Still a pretty good one though.

Tire of choice for Utah deserts

Comments On Oct 04, 2014:Great hard wearing tire. Holds up great to rocky trails and fast fire roads. Doesn't chunck off knobbies when the tire hooks up on rocky trails like Stansbury Front. This is the tire of choice for all the bikes in my garage.

Awesome front tire!

Comments On Sep 23, 2014:Best front tire in my opinion! Lasts a long time and is great in almost any condition! I wouldn't recommend the rear due to its terrible longevity, but I have no complaints on the front tire at all!
