A bit sketchy for aggressive riders
I mounted front and rear of these on my TE610E dual sport. Overall these are a step backward in terms of grip compared to the T63s I have been using (Michelin stopped making T63s). The rear steps out when I roll on the throttle coming out of corners. on the road. To their credit, the tires ride nice on the road and are very quiet, but for an aggressive rider they lack traction. I haven't felt the front push, but I just don't have any confidence. The story is worse off road. They just slip and slide all over the place. I hope they wear out quickly so I can get something better.

2014 Triumph 800 xc rear tire.
This is my forth rear karoo 3 and they are awesome tiers. the rear has very good traction in all road and off road conditions wet, dry and muddy dirt roads. the rear tires don't ware as long as the front but the performance make if worth it. they work awesome on my 2014 Triumph Tiger 800 xc.

Metzler Karoo 3 Set (Rear Review)
Just ran a 200 mile test ride on my first set of Karoo 3's. 60% twisties, 30% back road, 10% class 4 (VT for unmaintained road/trail). Performance all around was excellent, Was able to scrape the pegs on the corners and roll up some stream beds no problem. I recommend!

    I keep buying them
I'm on my 5th rear and 3rd front. I love everything about them. They work well off road and they hook up great on the pavement. The only drawback is tire life expectancy. I'm lucky if I get 4,000 miles out of the rear. Most times I don't. But I really like these tires.

    Great Tire Great Price
This tire is a winner! I have been running the Metzeler Sahara 3's for several years now. Great tire but expensive.
After 200 miles I think the Karoo 3 is at least as good as the Sahara on the road and it's way way better off road.
I will be running Karoo 3's on my KLR 650 from now on.

The hardest tire I have had to mount on my klr650.Now that it is on I like the way it rides on the road off road is it is very good going straight it lacks side bite in the comets. Would not put on myself again but over but like now it is on. Over 500 miles of true 50/50 riding

One of the few true 50/50 dual-sport tires
Just bought my second set of these for my KLR650, but the first set still has many miles to go. Just got back from a trip to the hills in Arkansas where we saw every on and off-road surface from fast, tight paved twisties to muddy, rocky climbs and stream crossings. Even when well-worn, the Karoo 3s behaved themselves perfectly on wet and dry pavement and dug in like a mountain goat off-road. I'm also getting far better life than I've ever gotten with a knobby, and it looks like they'll match or exceed what I've gotten from street tires. The only downsides are the ones you'd expect from any tire with such an open tread -- yep, they're noisy, and yep, you can feel vibration at slower speeds. I don't give a hoot, and I don't see why anyone would care what a tire sounds like, but it's something people mention.

Metzeler Karoo 3 Rear Motorcycle Tire
I run these tires on a 2006 DR650. I am about 185lbs in full gear. Over 7000 miles on front after mostly pavement, some gravel, and about 20 miles of single track. Rear went to about 4500. I wheelie, accelerate hard, intentionally spin in gravel and dirt, and occasionally intentionally slide the rear while braking on pavement. A more conservative rider should be able to get better mileage than I did. Tires wear pretty well considering these factors. I really like the aggressive looks too. Just mounted my second set.

    Metzeler Karoo Dual sport tire...
Great tire with good wear, better on-road than off. Not to bad in rocks and on hard surface. It is a handful on a big dual sport such as the KLR 650 I have it on. I lowered the air pressure a bit and it improved off road ability in slick conditions. Great price for a high end tire!

    meaty but streetable tire
i bought a pair of these for my 2015 klr650. i spooned them on myself and they scrubbed in quickly. i absolutely trust them for as far as i dare to lean the pig on drive pavement. i havent ridden on them in rain yet so i cant attest to their wet performance. there is some sound of tread slapping the pavement after 3000 miles, but its not very bad. in fact, i wish they howled a bit more to sound the part since they look the part. with 3k miles at 95% pavement use, the rear looks to have about 50% tread left and the front has easily 90%+ tread remaining. in straight-line off road, the rear tire will absolutely dig a trench and throw chunks as long as you let it. the flip side of the tire is that the same large side blocks that let you lean on pavement will allow you to slide in off-road maneuvers. in all, id give these tires an 8/10, especially for the price if you can catch them with any sort of discount or coupon.

    Can I use a Karoo 3 140/80-18 with a tube on my XR650L?
    A shopper on Mar 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: While I can't honestly answer your question as it relates specifically to the XR650, I can offer this: My riding buddy and I do a lot of long-distance adventure riding on our GS1200's and we always carry spare tubes for the Karoos. Now, the GS rims are designed to run tubeless tires, we carry spare tubes in the event of a severe cut or sidewall tear that has to be limped out of the boonies back to civilization. I know that's not exactly your situation nor what you asked exactly, but hopefully it helps a little. Might also want to consult with Metzler with that one as well. Beyond that, I LOVE the Karoo 3's. :-)
