The Pod MX K8 Knee Brace is a premium protection option and if you’re a rider that’s in the market for a brace to increase injury prevention, you can view the MX K8 as the option that balances comfort, adaptability, and protection well in every aspect.

At its core the MX K8 works off a lightweight carbon fiber chassis that forms the support structure for Pod’s unique True Motion hinge, a system that uses an artificial ligament to support your knee instead of a gear or cam based hinge you typically find. With the chassis and hinge working together, the K8 can deliver excellent impact protection from shin to thigh and stability to the knee joint in nearly every axis.

Pod built versatility into the K8 as well by including several spacers that let you customize the angle of lockout for your knee. They’ve also made the patella coverage completely removable, so with it removed you can use the brace in other sports where you need the support but not the impact protection.
  • Sold as a pair of braces, one left and one right

    Protection
  • Light weight, low profile pre-preg carbon fiber frame
  • Protects against hyperextension
  • Defined range of motion
  • Human Motion® hinge system for natural knee support
  • Relieves fatigue

    Features
  • Human Motion hinge system with modular components allow you to create your own custom knee brace
  • The brace adapts to a variety of activities though the ability to easily add or remove the impact panels as needed
  • Superior multi-sport performance
  • Lightweight - 650grams/1.4lbs (with impact panels and patella guard)
  • 12 month manufacture warranty.

Good but not great
These run pretty true to size but I found them just a bit on the small side. I believe they do a good job of protecting my knees but there are a few issues with them. The first is they have pads velcroed to the straps but the velcro pads are like stickers and were constantly falling off. I had to glue them on. The second issue is that they are not comfortable to wear, if you are doing a multi-hour race these will not be a wear them and forget them item. You will be constantly adjusting/pulling on them.

Best comfort for my chicken legs
I love the fit and finish of these braces. They are super light and you forget they are on. I tried on EVS and I don't like how the carbon fiber is all the way on both ends (it doesn't give at all to conform to your leg) the K8's DO !!
Pods are nothing but plastic besides one little piece.
True comfort out of the K8's

Pod K8 Great Knee Protection!
Great product have ridden 5000+ off road miles with these braces and they're holding up great! I've worn them as long as 10 hours a day for multiple days and don't experience any discomfort, barely know I have them on. I believe they're the best brace on the market.

So far, so good
Originally I ordered the small based on their measurements, I was on the highest end of the small size. It ended up being too snug and pinched a little and exchanged it for the medium... feel very comfortable and really don't even notice that I have it on!

2 steps forward too many backwards
I ride my dirt bike a lot (2-3 days a week) on some really awesome trails (not much of an MX guy) and race in enduros. I’ve also have had 3 different knee surgeries over the years and I have been on the quest for the perfect brace since 2008. I have a rack full of knee braces (CTI, Asterisk, Troy Lee, Mobius, EVS, Pod K700, and more). It seems like all of the braces have their pluses and minuses. Despite a couple of major drawbacks my go to brace has been the Pod K700. The K700s are the lightest and most comfortable braces I own. So I’m going to focus on the difference between the K700 and K8 and why I’m only giving the K8s 2 stars.

The biggest issue with the K700 was the lack of patella impact protection under the knee cup. I don’t know how many times I landed with my leg bent and smashed my lower patella on a rock. I was excited to see the K8 braces addressed this by increasing the coverage of the two pieces of plastic that slide under the patella cup. If Pod would have just made this 1 change and left the rest of the brace alone I would be giving them 4 stars unfortunately that isn’t the case (read on). They also fix the straps. The straps on the K700 had a piece of rubber that would come apart and that is no longer part of the strap (but you could just sew it back together).

First let’s talk about what didn’t change; the “tendon” system. These hold the brace together and are critical to the braces operation and safety. However they are a wear item and you need to replace them. Since I ride a lot, I need to replace them often. However, there is no good way to determine when you need to replace them and a few times mine have snapped in minor crashes. I would much rather see something stronger in the place of these tendons.

Now on to what has changed and why they now suck so badly compared to the K700s:
1. They now feel incredibly bulky. The patella cup sticks out much further than the k700. The upper and lower parts of the brace are now plastic instead of carbon fiber making them thicker.
2. Because of item 1 they fit too tight inside my very baggy Troy Lee Pants making me feel like I’m wearing skinny jeans.
3. They aren’t comfortable to wear (probably because of item 1 and 2). I get hot spots on the top of my patella and on my shin where the brace is in the boot.
4. They are over 100 grams heavier than the K700s. while not much heavier I can feel the weight while riding.
5. They feel a little wider on the bike than the k700s
6. When I sit in corners I find that I will catch my foot on more stuff because I can’t get my foot high and tight wearing these braces.

I have about 10 rides on these hoping they would break in but they haven’t. I haven’t dared to wear them on a ride lasting more than 3 hours because my legs are hurting by the end of the ride. I don’t’ get how Pod went from the most comfortable brace I own in the K700 (can wear them 12 hours no problem) to the worst fitting brace I own in the K8 braces that cost $760. At the end of the day if the protection you buy isn’t comfortable it isn’t going to do any good because it will be sitting in your shop and not on your body.

great product
I ordered these for my boyfriend who is a long time MX rider.. he's had plenty of injuries but one was very severe and resulted in him having multiple knee surgeries. He had been using "custom fit" braces for the last 7 years.. needless to say they had seen way better days! by the end we were duct taping them together and they would rub his knees raw. Another rider suggested these, so we measured and ordered.. He loves them, (his words).. "They are a lot more comfortable, my others were just a brace without any cushion and would slide and rub. these don't slip and don't restrict my mobility and it feels really good while riding, especially around turns i don't worry about my leg getting wadded up"... I would definitely recommend!! worth the price, and you get free shipping with orders over $75! plus- we are saving tons on ductape! win win.

Expensive, but far superior to my old Web knee braces. Fit is great, incredibly light, good adjust-ability, and durable feel.

Are they smaller (less bulky) than the old evs web braces?
SAMANTHA J on Jan 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The POD MX K8 and newer EVS Web Pro braces are about the same size and are both less bulky than the older EVS Web braces.
Does the brace do well helping the load bearing of day to day usage and skiing for myself? I need a brace to take pressure off my left knee.
A shopper on Dec 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Best brace for multi sport use because you can remove the patella protection when not using for moto. I’m a physical therapist and recommend these braces! I have an ACL deficiency in my left knee and I use the left brace for skiing. Of course, I use both braces when riding the track or trails. The adjustability of the extension lockout works very well and is easy to adjust. Hope that helps you with your inquiry.
Can this be used for waterboarding?
Michael F on May 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: As far as I know, they would be great for waterboarding, I don't wake board anymore because of injury to muscles in my arm.. They do have a little foam to make sure they don't rub against your leg, and that may have to be dried out after each use. Hope that helps
