Details

    OEM appearing stock bore cylinder kit containing a hand matched high compression forged Vertex piston, and top-end gasket kit. These kits offer you an affordable way to increase horsepower while maintaining stock engine displacement.
  • Cylinder- new, not remanufactured, cast aluminum nickel silicon carbide (NSC) electroplated stock bore cylinder that appears just like an OE cylinder. NSC is a composite of a nickel and silicon carbide, providing an excellent wear resistant surface with oil retention capabilities. Cylinders are then diamond honed to the exact bore dimension and proper surface finish to ensure the proper ring seal and oil retention.
  • Vertex high compression piston- To handle the internal pressures of a four-stroke engine, Vertex's high compression four-stroke pistons are forged from the highest quality 2618 aluminum alloy for superior strength and durability. Vertex uses unique piston profiles and compression ratios, to maximize power and performance while reducing blow-by and oil consumption. Each Vertex piston is then hand matched to fit each Cylinder Works cylinder perfectly.
  • Gasket kits- These kits contain the necessary gaskets to rebuild the top end. Kits include head, base, exhaust gaskets, and O-rings necessary when removing the cylinder and head during routine maintenance.

Nice kit, everything you need for a complete top end minus timing chain. Everything nicely packaged in box and well thought out for shipping( foam inserts to keep from bouncing around) would recommend to anyone!

Seems to be working great, no complaints.
It's a totally complete top end kit. It comes with a forged high compression piston, piston rings, wrist pin, circlips, base and head gasket, exhaust gasket, and of course cylinder. I've had my kit on for 20 hours under race conditions now, and it's going strong. The only thing I can suggest with it, is to make sure you use a white soft paper towel and coat it with the engine oil you'll be using, and wipe the cylinder with it and keep changing the wipe and adding oil until it keeps coming out clean. This will get rid of the leftover hone dust, and make is last longer. Also be sure to make sure the gasket mating surfaces are clean if oil befouling assemble. Of course torque it probably and happy riding.

Do your research and install the aftermarket oil sprayer if you are going to increase compression. I have already done that and this is working great for me. Added horse power through out.

easy to install 2006 yfz 450
It was very easy to install and everything fit perfect like it should. I also noticed a power gain from my stock set up I had before on the quad. I race moto cross and pulled hole shots right next to a 60hp Honda so its defiantly a good buy!

Cylinder works
Supposed to be a matched piston/cylinder combo- the ring gap was way too tight- no way it was measured when the piston and cylinder were fitted- had I installed this without checking first no doubt it would have lead to catastrophic failure and ruining who knows what else in the motor-

TECH NOTE: RING END GAP SHOULD ALWAYS BE CHECKED AND ADJUSTED IF NEEDED WHEN INSTALLING A NEW PISTON AND RINGS.

How many hours will I get out of this piston? I woods ride ever day and I don't want to buy this piston if I have to replace it every 20 hours .

BEST ANSWER: I bought this kit for my 06 ltr450. I have about 30hrs on the top end so far and have had no sign of rattles or piston slap indicating any wear. I use royal purple 10w40 oil for wet clutch systems and change it around 10 hrs of use. I am about to purchase the same kit for my 05 wr450 which has over 400hrs on the stock top end.

what kind of fuel does this run?

BEST ANSWER: I have run this kit on regular 93 Sunoco pump gas with fuel additives. I have recently switched over to 97 octane aviation fuel. Both run great, no need to run race fuel from the what I've seen so far. I only have mild intake tuning and an FMF exhaust set up.
Is the piston of the kit really 97 mm?
because the standard is 96.94 mm

BEST ANSWER: Once you change the cylinder, the factory specification become irrelevant. The cylinder and the piston are matched in the box. You will not be able to use the factory original parts again unless you replace it all with oem products.
recommended to do cams and valves with this standard bore, high compression? valves are on last few shim sizes.

BEST ANSWER: If it needs a new cylinder,it needs valves done,too. You've got it apart,might as well do them. Why take it back apart and have a second down time,when you could be riding instead?
