Details

If your bike has a heavy clutch that wears out your hand and causes poor clutch control, the Magura Hydraulic Clutch is a solution that replaces your cable actuated clutch with a smooth pulling, responsive hydraulic clutch lever system.

Magura’s Hydraulic Clutch operates on the same principles as your hydraulic brakes, and with a built-in fluid reservoir and slave cylinder, this hydraulic clutch makes your lever pull consistent and predictable throughout its range with a pull that’s up to 20% easier than a cable actuated clutch.

Installation is fairly simple by mounting the components, routing the lines, and bleeding/adjusting the system until it works well for you. The new hydraulic clutch lever will pull easily and smoothly with no pressure points but improved feedback. This makes the Magura Hydraulic Clutch great on tight technical terrain or for use with heavier than stock clutch springs.

    Specs:
  • Hydraulic clutch lever for motorcycles or atvs
  • Replaces lever and cable with hydraulic lever/resevoir, lines, and slave cylinder
  • Up to 20% less force required to pull lever
  • Built-in fluid reservoir and slave cylinder
  • Self-adjusting (no cable stretch)
  • Less maintenance
  • Predictable and consistent feel throughout pull
  • No pressure point fading

Pulling clutch lever does not disengage clutch fully
I've have spent countless hours trying to get this clutch working on my yz250, but no matter what I do it does not work properly. With the Magura hydraulic clutch, the Clutch arm throw is significantly smaller than my stock clutch cable, so when I pull in the clutch lever with the bike on the stand the rear wheel is flying. I've gone as far as replace all my clutch plates, springs, clutch pushrod, and the clutch arm itself, but nothing will fix the Magura clutch cable. I spent so much time trying to troubleshoot this system that I cannot return this anymore, so I have a $300 paperweight. Great.

Good upgrade to consider -
Very smooth and light when compared to stock mechanical clutch on KTM 790 Adv R. Not the cheapest but worth it depending on your riding style. Also, RMATV discounted at purchase and later gave me a credit when the price dropped, that was a nice bonus!

Best thing since sliced bread!!!
Seriously, how did I ride this bike before this???
80 mile Hare n' Hounds are soooo much better now that I can use the clutch.

Imagine being tired from 60 miles of grueling desert and pulling up to a nasty, rocky hillclimb. You go to pull the clutch in and nothing happens because you have no strength left to squeeze that old clutch cable. The bike stalls. Three of your buddies pass you, laughing. Now you're pissed off and tired and on top of all that, you have to kickstart your stubborn 4 stroke.

Stop struggling!!! Start clutching!!

10 minute install
Literally took 10 minutes to install. High quality part. If I had to guess, 30-40% decrease in lever pull which was the main reason for the purchase.

Way better than an old cable pull
Put this system on a 2001 RM 250. I've gotten used to hydraulic clutches over the years on my Husky's and KTM's. Picked up an older RM250 for a track bike, swapped out the cable system for the Magura Hydraulic system, clutch pulls nice and easy like my other bikes now.

2020 CRF450R Works Edition
I am pleased with this clutch I put on my Works Edition Honda. The fitment was perfect, other than the electric cable that came to replace my stock start switch had a connector on it. There is no connector on this bike. So I did have to splice and heat shrink in the new wire to the stock one, which I won't lie about gave me a heart attack. It works great, however! Feels like it came from the factory with it. Would definitely recommend. I even took a pretty heavy crash this weekend on the left side where the mounts for my bars bent. The clutch held up perfectly. It is pricey, but the clutch pull is worth it and it is a quality product.

not impressed
I bought this HYMEC clutch system and I can say I am disappointed on how it just doesn't work. I installed it correctly and even with tech support we still could not get it to work properly. the system is suppose to be for my make and model of bike and it should be bolt on. however if you buy this system be prepared to modify it so it will work and it probably still will not work right. I can guarantee next time I will do my research because if you look hard enough plenty of people are having the same issue as I am

It works well. It's a very good upgrade. If you're still pulling cables, I recommend giving the hydraulic clutch a try. Its self adjusting, very consistent and has a much easier pull.

Expensive but worth it, for a 2019 yz250 x
The price is high but once installed it is easier to swallow. Installation was easy and fast. Initially the clutch would not disengage fully, had to add shims under the biggest spacer to get it to function correctly.. one would think for the price they could throw in some 3 to4 extra shims for fine tuning. Now it works great, clutch pull much easier.

My 09 yz450 stock clutch handle has the hot shot lever mounted right to it. Does this lever have tapped holes to accommodate my hotshot lever?
Matt F on Nov 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I installed this on a 2007 crf450r which has a hot start. It came with a lever and bolt to mount up and connect the hot start cable in the same location and works perfectly.
Can you replace the clutch lever with a asv lever?
austyn a on Jan 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I believe the only levers that fit are the Magura replacement ones. They have a long and short option. I have used both and they have good durability. I wouldn’t purchase any other brand unless they specifically say they will fit.

Does the Magura Clutch system come prefilled or do I need to buy the Mineral oil?

Thank you
Charles P on Apr 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It came with it pre filled and blead.... It needs to sit in place for 24hrs to make sure any air makes its way to the top. It also normally has a small top off bottle with it. If needed dot4 brake fluid is mineral oil with added friction reducer and currotion inhibitor.
I would recommend purchasing shims( washers that you can grind on belt sander work) to place between the piston and mount if you run a racing or recluse clutch to get throw just right
Does it come pretty filled with fluid?
A shopper on Apr 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: completely filled ready to use , follow instructions and you wont lose a drop. I did purchase the magura clutch bleed kit just in case I ever have a problem . I have had two on different bikes work great.

Is this the gen 2 clutch? With the Metal star adjuster and the one that allows the lever to fold back incase of a crash
A shopper on Jan 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It has the metal star adjuster (that seems to adjust itself so I put a small piece of tie wire to hold it in place.
When the clutch assembly is working it is the bomb but I think dirt entering the master cylinder area has caused the clutch to pull in dirt and thus allowing air into the system. I have two friends with the same issue. Bleed them and in half a lap there is air present. I have tried to take the unit apart to clean it and inspect it but I cannot figure out how to pull out the piston assembly. Worked great for a season. I have really bad wrists and this made clutch pull 100 percent easier.
Will this work with a magura hydraulic clutch conversion on a 2015 WR450f?
Michael K on Dec 2, 2016
Magura Hydraulic HYMEC Clutch
Magura Hydraulic HYMEC Clutch
Rekluse EXP 3.0 Clutch
Rekluse EXP 3.0 Clutch
BEST ANSWER: Michael - the EXP clutch replaces a portion of the fibers and steel plates that ride in between your basket and hub. The cable actuated models have a pressure plate adjuster built into the new part that comes from rekluse that lets you set the baseline throwout that lets the bike idle yet prevents the clutch from slipping once it engages. Rekluse calls this the "Installed Gap" setting and its what makes the whole deal work.

So yes it should work with your magura because the rekluse adjustment on the yamaha its all part of the pressure plate vs KTM and Husky where the adjustment is part of the hydraulic clutch system.

I really recommend you call ReKluse directly for any questions - their support line is awesome. Reach them at two zero eight four two six zero six five nine. Their install videos and instructions are good and fairly easy to follow. I did it correctly my first try and can install one in a bike in about 40 min now having done several.

In my experience and that of others I know after you have the Rekluse you probably won't care about the hydraulic conversion because you'll let the Rekluse do most of the work for you. I'm a believer. I run them in all my bikes now off road and moto. They can save an expert from the consequences of a mistake and make amatuer riders look like pros on gnarly terrain. Once its in its idiot proof. I wish I'd thought of it. If you got the Magura to make you're clutch pull lighter (I Think yamaha's pull easy stock!) You will notice its a harder pull with the rekluse installed maybe 10-20%. I doubt you'll care though because you won't be modulating the clutch any where near as much yourself -if you're an experienced rider it takes some time to break yourself from the habits and to let the Rekluse do all the work. And it always works.
I guess you can tell I'm a satisfied customer.

Cheers - Jake
What Else will I need with this to replace my 2009 crf450r cable clutch? Also, can I change the lever once the install is complete? I would like a 1 or 2 finger lever.
Jay on Feb 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I put this hydraulic clutch on a 86 honda fourtrax 250r, it went right on with what came with the product, I have ASV levers on my quad and the lever would not fit the Magura, I don't know if a company is making after market levers for the Magura system or not. It doesnt look any thing like the hydraulic brake lever plus being on the other side it would be upside down
Does it come pre filled with fluid?
NATHAN R on Oct 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is filled with mineral oil. Completely pre-bled and ready for use out of the box
I have a 2016 YZ250X, and the website does not list this as an option when using the vehicle selector. Is there any difference between the standard 250, which it says it fits? I'm mostly wondering because they show the YZ250F and YZ250FX under different categories and don't want to buy this if it won fit mine.

Thanks
Tim B on Feb 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: As a reply to my own question, I ended up buying the clutch. It was possibly the easiest thing I've done, and is designed/comes with the parts to fit pretty much any setup I've seen so far. Thanks for the help everyone.
What is the gold cap on the slave cylinder for?
steven s on Jun 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The gold cap mounted on the end of the slave cylinder is just that and does not require attention in most cases. The cap can be replaced with different variations as needed, such as a rear-mount, depending on the configuration of the bike. The item in the picture on the RMATVMC web site may not look exactly like the one that fits your bike.
Where can I buy the collar spacers for a Honda cr250? As they didn’t come with my kit
A shopper on Dec 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: My crf450 didn’t come with them. I added some washers, but the thing automatically adjusts and so spacers weren’t really needed. My problem ultimately was a worn clutch basket. Recommend Barnett w/ss inserts or Hinson steel basket.
Does anyone run these with flexx bars and hand guards? Does it all fit up nice? Thanks in advance.
Nick L on Nov 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have Tusk D-Flex hand guards on my 04 KLR. I have no issues with fitment and there is enough clearance for the hose to get by the guard inner mount. After about 1500 mi Extremely happy with the purchase. Ill post a couple photos to the reviews.
I Am not getting an option for a shorty lever, what does it come with ?
Ron J on Feb 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The Magura clutch I ordered came with a lever similar to what in the picture. If you want to swap in a shorty lever you would have to purchase a lever that is compatible and swap levers. I don't know of any "shorty lever" option when purchasing 1 of these.
Do I have to use the supplied clutch lever? Or can I use the one I already have? The ones I have on my bike are breakaways
Brett T on Nov 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hard to say without seeing the two side by side, but it is doubtful it is compatible with your levers. The lever reacts directly with a plunger for the hydraulic system.
Is the Magura clutch for a 2016 CRF 250R still the 167?

Will this kit work with a automatic recluse clutch?
William B on Jul 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It is my understanding that this WILL work. I have the Rekluse installed and have had a couple friends tell me it's ok to do so - it makes sense as well. The Rekluse doesn't really care - the Magura works identically to the original clutch only it's an easier 'pull'. On my WR, the Rekluse makes the 'pull' much harder, but ultimately I pull it so seldom that I'm unlikely to add the Magura. My wife went the Magura route on her WR250R and it's a lovely piece of equipment.
2007 Polaris Outlaw 500. Love this ATV, but clutch pull can get to the point where only Hercules can pull the lever in. Clutch is in good order. Can this hydraulic clutch be adapted to this ATV?
Joseph P on Jun 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: To accurately answer you would need to know if the clutch pull on the engine is the same length, and if the cable stop is the same as offered on the CRF. You would also want to ensure the hydraulic line is long enough to reach. If similar ends it could be made to work, but a lot of research and comparison would need to be made.
The exact same part number is listed for the kit for a 2016 YZ250F and a 2017 YZ250FX even though these two bikes have quite different clutch systems including different length actuation arms at the transmission. The FX has a longer throw than the F. This is one of the reasons why the stock hand levers are not interchangeable between the two models. Has anyone tried this kit on a North American YZ250FX that is 2017 or newer? (I think the Australian 2017 is different and possibly the European models also). Thanks.
MAX L on Jan 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This "Magura Hydraulic Clutch" will install exactly the same for both the YZ250FX and YZ250F, HOWEVER you'll have to simply "bypass" the clutch sensor located in the stock clutch perch on the FX models.
Do you offer different lengths on the hydraulic line? My quad has a +2 stem on it
A shopper on Oct 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I was a customer and the Magura I got I returned. It was very poor quality and not off - road worthy. Will not work out of box must also buy bleed kits.
Will this fit my 2017 Yz450fx?
Shows it will fit the 450f, what about the 450fx. What are the differences?
Jeff S on Aug 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I believe this will fit your bike unless you have something that is part of the clutch perch like a switch of some sort , if it is just a lever and a cable The MAGURA comes all assembled with oil in it and can be installed very easily. I love it on my bike and will put it on every bike I get

Is this clutch the 167 model?
JoKarol D on Nov 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I bought this and it was a perfect fit for my 2012 crf450r not sure what else it fits but they are pretty much universal with some extra adapters and pins that can be purchased
Is this a generation 2 clutch? I need one for my 2016 WR250F and was going to order the direct fitment for the 2016 YZ 250F but wanted to make sure it's the latest generation clutch.
John Mark D on Aug 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, these are the Gen 2 Hymec clutches from Magura. Something to keep in mind if ordering it for a WR, the reason we don't have them listed for the WR models is because of the safety switch in the stock clutch perch that requires you to have the clutch pulled to use the electric start. If you plan on putting this on a WR, you will have to override or bypass that switch.
