Whether you have a stock or aftermarket pipe on your 2 stroke, the P3 Carbon Pipe Guard is a simple and sick looking add-on that we think gives your pipe some of the best protection available for enduro, trail, and track riding.
P3 makes their pipe guards from an incredibly strong blend of Kevlar, fiberglass, and carbon fiber fused together using a proprietary blend of high temperature resins. Using these premium materials and precise construction techniques, P3 Carbon Pipe Guards can stand up to roost from the track or even rocky debris if you ride hard enduro.
Each guard is molded to match the unique contours and fitment of your bike’s model, manufacturer, and pipe, so you get the closest fitting protection, easiest installation, and largest coverage possible from each guard. P3 also finishes the guard with a hard clear coat on the outside and a DEI thermal barrier coating on the inside to protect the pipe guard from nicks or dulling and temperatures up to 1500°F.
Specs:
Precise fit based on bike model and pipe model
Made from fiberglass, Kevlar, and carbon fiber weave
High temperature resins extend life and durability
DEI thermal head pipe barrier on underside of guard
Great protection for your bike. Lightweight and strong! Also looks great! Installs easily. In my opinion this is a must have item before you even ride your bike. I had one on my last bike for 9 years and I was very satisfied!
P3 has totally cheaped out for 2019. I bought the pipe guard of my 2019 300 XC. What a joke, the cover doesn't go up on the side like a traditional guard does. It only covers the front and poorly at that. Total disappointment and P3 has failed me for the last time. I promptly returned this over-priced disgrace and bought the E-Line.
Best of the carbon fiber guards....if you feel you need a guard
If you are using the oem pipe that is very thin you will want to use a guard. The P3 is a nice looking and thick enough to take some hits. It's about twice as thick as the EE (which was a total waste of money)
I've been using the fmf gnarly and have a fatty as a back up, they are many times stronger than the OEM and I don't use a guard on them. The guards prevent dents but will cause the pipe to bend more from big hits. I just send them out for repair when they become badly mangled.
This pipe guard is awesome. It looks great, fits great and is thicker than other pipe guards out there. P3 also has great customer service and stands behind their products. There have been many times that i should have had a crushed pipe and have been able to ride away from each of them. This should be one of the first accessories that you purchase for your bike. Ill get one of these for each bike that i purchase.
This pipe guard went on without any problems and it looks great! I do suggest leaving your ring clamps loose until you figure out where you are going to tuck the slack after tightening. I had to loosen mine back up and readjust after installation so I didnt get cut by it while riding.
I have a 2016 Husqvarna TE 300 with an FMF Gnarly pipe. I had a hard time finding a good recommendation for a pipe guard. Even a call to FMF didn’t help (they actually recommend not using a guard claiming that it holds in the heat and damages the pipe). I decided to go with the P3 to see how it fits. To my pleasant surprise the fit was great and I couldn’t be happier with the guard.
Not perfect fit, but very close, and good overall protection
Didn't plan on it being tested when writing this review, but it's been hit numerous times and has saved my stock pipe as it's supposed to. Quality and looks are there. It wasn't perfectly flush everywhere on my yz250x but removing the pad inside it and playing with it whiile tightening the clamps got it very close to perfect fit, enough that it looks great and has performed well.
Well the guard itself did not fit over the pipe cleanly. It was as if it was for a slightly different pipe but nonetheless, I clamp that Booger down and it’s already served it’s purpose as I scratch the crap out of it ha ha
Not too impressed with the durability of this pipe guard. Just put one on my new xcw and had my first low side slide on a patch of dried pine needles with the guard on. After picking up the bike I realized the guard was sort of trashed. To be fair, there was a loose drink coaster sized rock in the pile of pine needles, but it wasn't buried or anything. I had what I believe was a KTM Powerparts version of the same guard on my 2010 xcw and it held up to several hard slams and slides on boulder sized rocks during races and practices. It looked a bit beat up, but nothing like the P3 just after a minor low side slide across a loose rock in some pine needles. Did it save my pipe from a dent? Maybe, but I can't recommend this guard with the lack of durability at this price point.
I have a brand new 2018 KTM 250 XC. I bought the P3 stock pipe guard listed for that bike, and it doesn't fit on the pipe. I compared the model number printed on the product with what P3 has on their website, and it matches. Not sure if mine is faulty or if they're all like that. Later I bought the Enduro Engineering one and it fits perfectly. So I recommend that one instead.
The good: the fit was perfect, easy to install and not a scratch on the pipe yet even after 4 harescrambles! The bad: The guard didn’t have the top layer of protective coating in two spots on it. I reached out to RM and they offered a gift card to accept the guard as is. Which I did. Thanks Rockymountain for being my go to place for parts and gear!
It does what it's supposed to do but it's not as durable as I hoped it would be. In one race I rubbed a hole in it and the clear coat in places is coming off from rocks smacking it with only two rides on it. Other than that it's great. It has saved my pipe.
Little to no real protection for anything but minor scratches.
I have been wanting to give a real honest review on these types of carbon fiber pipe guards for a while so here it is. I'm not picking on P3 or any specific manufacturer here. Over the years I've purchased a few of these from different manufacturers before coming to the conclusion that they are no more than cosmetic bling or maybe protection of your over the the boot riding pants from being burned by your exhaust. In the event of a real crash and you throw your exhaust down hard on rocks or Mash into a log you're only increasing the cost of the damage by adding one of these to your bike. Trust me I have destroyed a few of these types of carbon gaurds and they did nothing to prevent the exhaust from being damaged. You'll get similar results if you just wrap your pipe in hundred dollar bills. No but seriously Save your money and establish a good relationship with a person who is a competent welder / metal fabricator who can help you remove the dents you have accumulated in your exhaust.
Initially this looked like a simple install. It isn't too bad just make sure the clamps are lined up correctly when you begin to tighten. I haven't ridden the bike to see if it is durable so time will tell.
I was between this pipe guard and the eline one. I went with this because unfortunately eline didn't have a gnarly pipe fitment for my bike. However this one doesn't go far enough up the pipe to have good protection from right side laydowns. My bike is a 200 XC-W but two of my brothers have 250's with eline pipe gaurds and they fit much better. As you can see in the pictures there is a dent just after the pipe guard.
Good but could be better, not a ton of protection on the sides
It is starting to delaminate a bit where it's taken some hits, fitment is OK but not the best. Still causes some small dents behind the guard but it's much better than nothing and some give is probably good so it doesn't damage the header. I think it's the best option out there but could fit a little better and have a little more coverage on the sides. If it wrapped around a half in more it would be much better. I have lots of little dings right where it ends. Fits much better on my TX 300 than the one for my wife's 200 xcw where it really doesn't fit all that well (she has the one for the Gnarly pipe) mine is for stock pipe.
I would certainly purchase this Carbon Guard again and recommend it to any serious race. It not only looks cool but gets the job done.
I crushed my pipe while racing a desert course. We purchased the P3 Carbon pipe guard and havent had a problem since. This unit is light, tough and effective making it a great bargain.
Fits good, has taken some pretty good hits so far and no issues. I had bought a cheaper brand carbon fiber pipe guard in the past and it cracked and splintered pretty quickly from the same typ of hits this P3 unit has shrugged off
Overall the P3 pipe guard fit great. Very easy to install but slightly disappointed it did not include hose clamps like some other companies pipe guards do.
P3 pipe guard for 02 YZ 250 2 stroke with stock oem pipe
Well, it took some doing to adjust the hose clamps, but no matter what the pipe guard refused to properly follow the contours of the last few inches of the pipe before it started heading in towards the cylinder-so you have a portion of the pipe guard thats sticking out about 3 "away from the pipe-feel P3 shouldve included some holes in the pipe guard in this area with another hose clamp to help this situation or better yet formed the pipe guard to closer follow the contour of the pipe at this spot, still it offers reasonable protection overall all
I wasn't sure if it would fit on the ktm fmf sxs header pipe but i ordered it anyways it fits on the pipe good but not perfect, however this wont be i problem i can tell already. The durability is immaculate and should last a very long time. The price is a little much but its better than either replacing the pipe or constantly sending it to be fixed.
Very nice product...fit is perfect, looks great...haven't bashed any rocks with it yet, but I'll try harder this weekend! The clamps are a little tricky to route...I ended up cutting the excess off and filing the sharp ends down. Also, I hope the bands dont rust after a while...maybe they could put chrome or stainless bands in with the guard in the future?
I read a lot of reviews on pipe guards before I bought this and everyone was right. Very nice quality, heavy duty. Watch the install video, hose clamps fraught me a little, but easy install.
Fit is perfect! Looks amazing! More expensive than other brands but you get what you pay for. Had a e line and it wasn't near as flush as the P3. Can't go wrong. Bought a fmf factory fatty and it fits this as well as the stock pipe.
This is the 2nd P3 I've bought for my 17 XC300 and this one fit as bad as the first....which was not good. It's a little pliable so you can get it to bend to the shape of the pipe....but each one I bought (first one for the stock and the 2nd one for the gnarly I put on) it was no where close to the shape of the pipe. Going to try an Eline for my next one and see if that's any better.
Based on other comments, these are apparently better than the e-line brand (which I never tried), but after purchasing the P3 and comparing to the KTM guard, I wish I would have bought the factory guard.
Fitment is fine, but then again it's only wrapping half-way around the pipe. Would like to see better coverage along the back side of the pipe, especially along the bottom. The factory KTM/Husky guard looks to wrap around the pipe more offering more protection, plus it's cheaper. I suppose more material could trap water in the guard, but adding some drain holes would solve that.
Fit great on stock pipe and states will also fit FMF.
Could not wait for the pipe guard for my first ride on the new bike. The stock pipe is thin material and I now have 3 small rock dings but not too bad (flung up from front tire)
Good coverage and easy install, if I had this guard on it for my first ride it would have eliminated 2 of the dings.
Machine this part was bought for: 2016 HUSQVARNA TE 30
THICKER THAN ALL THE OTHER BRANDS, VERY HEAVY DUTY YET LIGHT. FIT AND FINISH IS PERFECT, NO ISSUES AT ALL GETTING IT TO FIT ONTO PIPE. P3 ANSWERS QUESTIONS PROMPTLY, AND IS A GREAT COMPANY. IF YOU WANT LIGHT WEIGHT, DURABLE ARMOR, P3 IS THE KING OF THE HILL..WELL WORTH THE FEW EXTRA BUCKS.
I bought a eline pipe guard that took 25 minutes to install and still had a weird space on the bottom of pipe. After a month on the eline it broke. then I bought this. it fit perfectly with no issues going on 3 months with it
Machine this part was bought for: 2016 KTM 250 XC-W (E-Start)
BEST ANSWER:Depending on the machine application, the P3 Carbon Pipe guard does have an option for the FMF/SXS pipe fitment. Just make sure the correct machine is selected and the SXS option is selected as well and it will fit the SXS pipe.

BEST ANSWER:Would be best to contact FMF and ask them. They would know if the pipe is the same size as the others or not. This fits perfectly on the 2017 so if it is a different size pipe it would obviously not fit.

BEST ANSWER:I have a 2016 Husqvarna TE 300. I purchased the P3 Guard because it was stated to fit the stock and FMF pipes if I should choose to change my pipe later. Fit with no issues and has saved my pipe from damage while riding single track in Northern CA. and Nevada, hope this helped.

The pipe guard should be put on the pipe its called for. I have made a few work that were close but they don't look as good as if they are installed on the pipe that its made for. Pick a pipe that is for your needs and get a set that goes together.
BEST ANSWER:I purchased this guard for a 2015 KTM 300 xcw with stock pipe and the fit was perfect. I can tell you after a year of riding/racing my pipe is not dented and the guard has no damage. It works. I was worried about how it would hold up compared to a metal guard, not anymore. It's lite too. As for your fit I would contact P3 to make sure. That FMF pipe is a common mod so I would be surprised if they don't have a guard that fits that pipe. Good luck.

yea. it fit my 2012 250xc with a gnarly.. needed a lil coaxing, wasnt a perfect fit as you know every pipe is different due to dents and being hit around. all in all youll be happy with it
Not 100% sure but I know it works for the SXS pipe because that’s what I am currently running. You may want to see if the fatty is what comes Factory. If so it will work for sure. If you ever roll with the gnarly pipe you will have to order the kit from P3 because RM don’t sell the guard for those pipes.
BEST ANSWER:Th P3 Carbon Pipe Guard fit perfectly onto my stock KTM pipe but I don't know if the FMF Gnarly Pipe has a different profile in the area that this guard id mounted.

In 2017for KTM 2-stroke (250) there are two P3 carbon pipe guards; for the stock pipe and the FMF Gnarly pipe. Is there one for the Fatty or do one of the others fit the Fatty?
