The Top Gun Chain Master is an upper chain roller kit specifically designed for the mighty KLR 650. Even though the KLR 650 was designed for on and off-road use, it does not have an upper chain roller. This can cause the chain to hit the airbox vent. The Top Gun Chain Master fixes this problem. Now your KLR 650 can have an upper chain roller to prevent damage to the airbox while reducing chain slack at full suspension compression.

Installs easily, looks robust. It's installed too late to save my original air box drain but should save my repaired one. Note that if you have engine guards and they mount using the 8mm bolt hole, you will may need a longer bolt than supplied in the kit. Also make sure whatever bolt you use in this hole does not stick out past the weld nut on the inside or it may hit the top of the swing arm if rear suspension is fully compressed. I had to use a 40mm long bolt with a flat washer under the head.

    Glad I bought it
Easy to install and works like a charm. It's nice to have in situations where your maxing out your suspension and hoping your chain doesn't pop off. It's definitely great for heavier riders with a lot of gear and a lot of off roading.

Is this compatible with the dirt racks crash bars? I believe they also mount to the subframe.

    Thanks
    Ashley H on Feb 3, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This fit fine on my bike with the DIRTRACKS brand engine guards already installed, but I did have to use a longer bolt on the front end - the one that attached where the guard goes. I seem to remember that I had to use an extra washer under the bolt head. You want to make sure the bolt is fully engaged with the nut and just barely sticking out (maybe one thread only) on the inside. Make sure you use blue thread locking to prevent vibrations causing the bolt to loosen.
Top Gun Chain Master, what does it mount to?
    Larry C on Jul 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Larry, it mounts to the bottom subframe mounting point and to a lug on the frame just below the battery. Appropriate bolts are supplied. I fitted one in response to the chain ripping up the airbox drain valve. - Mick
