The Tusk crankcase splitter / separator is an indispensable tool if you are performing a bottom-end engine rebuild. It makes the process of splitting a case a breeze and will work like a charm for most 2-stroke and 4-stroke vertically split crankcases – especially since the tool's adjustable arms allow it to function properly on many different types of bolt patterns. The splitter also makes disassembling the crankcase simple by allowing you to safely push the crank assembly right out of the case halves. It used to be that splitting the case was only possible with expensive tools. The Tusk crankcase splitter / separator has changed everything with a quality, affordable case-splitting tool.
  • The Tusk crankcase splitter is a must for disassembling vertically split 2- and 4-stroke crankcases.
  • It makes crankcase disassembly easy by safely pushing the crank assembly out of the case halves.
  • Adjustable arms permit it to be used on a variety of bolt patterns.
  • Both 8mm and 6mm mounting bolts are included.

I think it did a great job of splitting cases and pulling the crank out. great to find a cheaper product for an occasional bottom end job. not sure if it would last for rebuilding motors all the time though.

The Tusk Crancase Splitter gets it done.
I am rebuilding a 78 Yamaha DT400 engine and ordered the Tusk Crankcase Splitter to get the crank out of the cases. Worked like a champ. One of the bearings stayed on the crankshaft. Time to order another tool.

Broke first use
Ordered one and within the first use it broke. One of the welds has fails for the arm. I’m incredibly disappointed in this product and will most definitely never purchase anything from these guys again.

Anyone try this and the installer on 1970s era Huskys?

Tusk Crankcase Splitter
Tusk Crank Puller/Installer Tool
Tusk Crank Puller/Installer Tool
BEST ANSWER: Hey John. I have not worked on those engines in particular but I have used these tools on many others. Before I had the splitter tool it was necessary to make a custom pulling plate for each different set of engine cases because the tapped holes for the pull rods are often not 180 degrees across from each other and the push pin must be straight on to the end of the crankshaft. Using this tool it is easy to centre the pin and then move the slotted arms to line up with two or three tapped holes in the engine case. Remember to make the puller level with the cases so that you pull evenly an the anchor rods. The crank puller/installer is easy to use. It slips over the end of the crankshaft and the threaded/tapped end is used to draw the crank toward the case. Hope this helps, Jay.
Will this splitter work on a kx250 98 model??

Will this work on multiple machines?
Matthew D on Mar 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but depending on the engine design you may have to fabricate an adapter plate.I have used mine on two very different engines with no problems at all.
Does the case splitter serve as a crank installer also or do I need to purchase the splitter and crank installer tool separately?

Tusk Crank Puller/Installer Tool
Tusk Crank Puller/Installer Tool
BEST ANSWER: I could not tell you for sure. The trick to pulling the crank case is to pull it apart evenly and equally. Not knowing the width I'm just not sure. These tools will do many different crankcase. Sorry I could not help on that one. Best advise would be to call the cat dealer, or measure the distance between the bolts send them to me and I can measure the three spreader legs to see if this will work. It needs to have three points to pull equal.
Will this work on a 2001 wr426?
Hayden T on Oct 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It was designed to split multiple engines it has a wide variety of motion to secure the bolts and spread out the load when separating the crankcase from the crank. A manual is a must as you never want to try and split the crank from the crankcase only to realize too late that there was a hidden bolt and now your case is broken in several pieces..... When I purchased mine it was for the intent to use it on the majority of brands and most years...... it’s a handy tool and one that every dirt bike enthusiast should have in his tool box....

Will this work with 2004 Suzuki RM125 (splitting cases) and the installer tool for the crank?
Scott G on Jul 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It will work for splitting the cases of most any motorcycle type engine. But to put the cases back together you need a crank puller to pull the crank bearings into the cases and help keep from tweaking the crank (binding the bearings).
2015 YZ85.
Will I need any other special tool to disassemble/assemble engine besides case splitter and Flywheel puller?
A shopper on Mar 4, 2020
BEST ANSWER: You will also need a crank puller. And if you are splitting the cases I recommend getting a Wrench Rabbit kit. It will come with every bearing, seal and gasket you need. Along with a new crank and piston. I have used them to rebuild 2 different bikes.
Will the Tusk Case Splitter work on a 2002 Grizzly 660?
