Hits you square in the shin.
Easy to install, very strong. Beware those with long legs... the rounded guard always hits my shins when riding. Tall people disadvantaged (stock seat, foot pegs)

    Feels very sturdy
I was surprised how heavy the box was when they arrived. That's a good thing. I could have used an extra set of hands installing them, but after about 2 hours I got it all together. Fortunately I haven't had a chance to crash test them, but riding is much more stress-free knowing I have them on there. They also make a good place to mount highway pegs for those long days.

    inexpensive insurance
Your gonna lay your KLR down... Its gonna happen... whether its In your driveway, garage, creek, ravine, road etc... Have you taken a look lately at how exposed those fairing$ and radiator$ are? I look at this purchase as nothing more than inexpensive insurance. Took me about 2 hrs, I did not take take the tank off, everything went together like it was supposed to. Used blue loctite... Very pleased with this product from Tusk

Love my bars i think they look great
Love my tusk crashbars on my 2017 klr650. Easy install all around, at least in my opinion. Some people say they get a vibration from them at around 2000 rpm (on klr's) mine after install i have not had any vibrations at all. They look great on the bike and they seem to be built very well.

    Buzzy
Was debating between these and sw motech to replace my happy trails nerf bars for the looks.
Installation was straightforward and the rm video was very useful. Can't comment on durability as its to early to tell.
I have the same vibration around 2800 rpm like in the youtube video about tusk crash bar vibration on klr. Thought ill be able to deal with it but have changed my mind now, after experiencing the vibration on my bike. It's driving me nuts. Will be removing them and order sw motech set instead.

    My opinion:
If crash protection is all you want these should do the trick. If you're bothered by excessive vibration, look for a different set.

2015 KLR 650 Tusk Crash Bars
Installation instructions excellent, fitment perfect. No issues on installation. Took 2.5 hours to install. Look excellent. Hardware bolts are the same strength as the Eagle Subframe Bolt upgrade, which I purchased, but didn't use after I figured out the tensile strength is the same.

What is the value of a limb?
I purchased and installed the tusk crashbars on my KLR650. After reading reviews and some forum wankery about them, I decided, what the heck. I know they are inexpensive but my other tusk products have been great value so I tried them. Install was no problem, easy fit. Look fine, seemed like a good value. Fast forward to my first trip on the bike with the bars. I was in a traffic accident, and my bike impacted the back corner of a jeep at approx 35 mph sending the bike and myself across the opposite lane of traffic .
I want any reader to understand this. This crashbar saved my leg. I escaped with some bumps and bruises and a really sore knee which hit the back of the crashbar on my way overtop of the bike. The crashbar absorbed the impact and protected my lower leg from being the point of impact. I tell you, it saved my leg. I also want any reader to understand this: these bars while seemingly inexpensive compared to other brands, and at the paltry price of 169.99 are well above their pricepoint. The opposite side bar received only scrapes and a few gashes from landing and sliding on the pavement. NO BENDS after a full impact on the pavement. I highly recommend these bars are strong, and at the low price, ask yourself; what is my lower leg worth?

    KLR crash bars
I had the first set of Tusk crash bars installed on a new 650 KLR by the dealer. As a result of apparent poor quality control, the right bar was defective and was 3" off the fairing, noticeable after instillation. After a phone call, Rocky Mountain quickly responded by sending a replacement set and the dealer reinstalled the bars (at significant cost to me). The bars appear suitable for purpose and appear well made.

    Insurance policy for my plastics
Purchased a "new to me" KLR that was very clean. As this is my first bike, I didn't want to tear it up with the inevitable falls as I learn to ride so I bought these. Looked at several others but liked the fit and finish of the Tusk engine guards. Instructions were easy to follow, and the install video from Rocky Mountain gave me the confidence I needed to do this job myself. This really adds to the look of the bike, and is functional as lift points if the bike ends up sideways. I would absolutely buy these for my next bike as well.

Will these fit with a IMS 10 gallon gas tank?
    A shopper on Sep 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't believe they will. The guards are very close to the stock shrouds and the IMS tank sticks out even further than the stock.
I'm going to be installing the eagle mfg drill through sub frame upgrade kit... Does the crash bars install the same way???
    Michael F on Sep 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, they install the same way. The upper bolt with the upgrade kit is something like 140 mm, but with the spacers (must use) and the tab thickness (12mm), some washers I used and the 150mm thickness at the subframe, ended up needing 175 mm, Nothing else is different.
Will this work with the IMS 10 gallon tank?
    Michael N on May 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These will not work with the 10 gallon tank.
Does it fit 2016 KLR ?
    Greg R on Aug 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes they do. You can put in your machine information at the top of the product description and it will allow you to order for your correct machine.
Are the sub frame bolts that come with the crash bars an upgrade over the stock sub frame bolts?
    Jerry B on Nov 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. The top bolts are not the ones that usually fail anyway so what comes with the bars is adequate (IMO). The bolts up front however, where the bars clamp to the frame are too soft. I stripped them out fairly easily and went and brought some harder ones. Overall I feel happy with the setup, they look good and have survived some good drops.
Will these fit with a HTP skid plate?
    A shopper on Nov 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes they fit good together, just wish I had purchased them at the same time. Only issue I had was the U-bolt was not long enough to reach the nylon lock portion of the locknut.
Has anyone installed/used these successfully on a first generation KLR650 ? (years '87-'07)
    Chris W on Apr 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Chris, I purchased a set of these bars about a year ago but it was for a 2018. You might just see if you can find a newer model where you live and look at the frame. Mounting was not difficult.
will this fit with sw-motech skid plate?
    Charles C on Mar 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: IT should. The way it fits the bike does not really come into play with the Tusk crash bars. I just put them on my Klr2016 and it fit right up. I also put them on my Dads klr2014 with a ricochet plate on his and it worked out as well.
Aren't the mounting points on the Gen 1 and Gen 2 bikes the same? Is there a reason why these won't fit a Gen 1 bike?
    A shopper on Feb 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: regretfully, I am not able to provide an answer. I did not see a Gen 1 and Gen 2 last year when I bought mine. I purchased part #1560870001. I hope that helps. I am a strong believer in the engine bars. I dumped my bike 3 times during my first ride in the mountains during a rain storm trying to get back to camp. The only thing that showed any damage was the left rear blinker.
I've lost three of the 6mm X 20mm allen bolts for mounting the crash bars. What precisely can I use as a replacement? Is it something I can pick up at the hardware store?
    Justin W on Feb 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely, you have the size already just hit up Ace... better selection than HD.
Will these bars fit with a Touratech skid plate?
    A shopper on Jan 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I emailed Touratech when I was shopping for a skid plate. Their plate was very appealing to me and I really wanted it on my bike. I sent them an email asking about compatibility with the Tusk crash bars and they said they didn't know. Great customer service from Touratech though for answering my question. The Happy Trail TTH skid plate was proven to fit my configuration of my bike and crash bars. I went with it and it all works out well.

How much do the bars weigh ?
    SCOTT Z on Jan 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: this ways just over 16 lbs.
I see that another question/answer states that these will work with a Happy Trails skid plate (on a KLR 650), but as Happy Trails makes two versions - one for SWMotech crash bars (model HTP4-1-88-SWM) and another version (model HTP4-1-88-B), will these crash bars work with the latter (-B) model? Thank you.
    Mark H on Jul 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: they will work. thank you for your question.
Will these fit with the Happy Trails highway bars?
    A shopper on Feb 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, my 2009 KLR 650 had the HT pegs and I had to remove them to install the Tusk Crash Bars. If you have the HT pegs, you'll also need the original engine mount spacers that were removed to install the HT bars.
    Where are these made. China?
    Murphy B on Feb 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, these are made in China.
