What a deal!
Awesome deal. Good grips, lock on, comfortable and priced similar to other grips only these are heated!!! I'm not a super fan of the controller mounting thing as it does not compare to OEM switches, but OEM switches are uber expensive and these are uber affordable...plus the controller works just fine so that's like apples to oranges.

Good grips. Some cams may not work.
Good heated grips.
Had to modify xr650l cam to work.
Cam was much wider than stock.
Lapped to stock size and worked great after that

Tremendous Value!
I mounted these on my KLR 650 and put the controller on the lower dash panel. These grips work great and are a tremendous value at just under $30!

Great closeout price, so-so performance
I bought these to replace a set of Oxford grips on my 990 Adventure. The Oxfords put out awesome heat, but the non-lock-on construction would cause them to eventually spin on the bars (I ride the bike aggressively offroad). These Tusk lock-on hand warmers were on closeout so the price was excellent. They are easy to wire, but like the Oxford grips I had to carefully cut and dremel the ends because a) they are a long grip, and b) I run hand guards. Aside from that, no issues. The heat output, however, is maybe 75% of the Oxford grips. Wish they were hotter, but for the price I can't complain.

Needs improvement
So, I was really excited about these grips since they're isolated but aren't huge like the Oxford grips. And I like how they can be moved from bar-to-bar, or bike-to-bike. But then, I realized my clutch perch had to be moved further into the bar. This put the lever at a distance I'm not happy with. The locking area is too long which pushed the left switch housing awkwardly far away from the grip, causing the clutch lever/perch conundrum. I'm tempted to cut the lock off the left grip, rendering it useless as a lock-on grip, just so I can get my clutch purchase back. This review asks if I recommend these grips. I guess it depends. Some bikes won't have the same problem as I do, others will. Some people are on with two fingers at the very end of the clutch lever, others won't be. The grips work very well, getting nice and hot quickly. They rotate when aggressively riding singletrack, but only the times with the awkward body english. The switch plastic is thin and broke when mounting, but so far, it's still hanging on and doesn't move. So yes, overall I would recommend these. Just be aware that some compromises may have to be made.

3/4" of locking area.
Perch vs switch housing. It's as close as I can get it.
Notch.
Awkward two fingers.
Notch cut in grip.

Heated grips, game changer for the winter months
I have these on a couple of my dual sport bikes and it allows me to ride through the winter season. Buy hand gaurds and combine them with these grips and you won't have to park your bike in the winter as much.

Not enough heat.
Used for a snow bike so I need lots of heat. The grips are not very hot. I bot other stick on ones that produce way more heat, unfortunately they break off solder on throttle side. I like the handle mount control, the only reason I gave it 2 stare.

Can the ends of these heated grips be cut or drilled out for use with wrap-around hand guards?
Eli M on Nov 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The hard plastic ends can be drilled out to accommodate wrap-around hand guards but you will have to be very careful not to damage any of the electrical filament inside the grips themselves because they won't be covered under warranty if they are damaged as a result of modifications done to the Grips.
Do they turn off when ignition is off, or must they be manually turned off to not drain battery?
A shopper on Mar 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: As long as they are wired into the ignition circuit they will turn off. If they are hooked straight into the battery they will drain the battery - even if turned off - as the control board has a brain that runs off .5 amp energy.
What is the power draw for the tusk mc grip warmer on full "5" setting?
MARK L on Feb 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: My testing pulled 2.6 amps with 12 volts=31 watts draw on setting 5 If your voltage is higher the wattage could go higher.
The video showed them installing a set on a KTM 500 and they said they were bike specific, but their is NO listing for any KTM! it says Yamaha is the only selection. The girl on chat was of no help at all, wasted 15 minutes Whats up Rocky Mountain??? Lame
Rick H on Apr 16, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I do apologize for the inconvenience. We sell these for multiple years and models. If your machine is not listed, these will not fit unfortunately.
Can I cut the endsto install wrap around hand guards?
A shopper on Dec 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I ended up drilling with a small bit and using a razor blade to cut the rubber without damaging inside the grip. Be careful when ordering as the size is for the stock bars.
Is the controller waterproof ?
A shopper on Dec 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The controller is at least water resistant. I pulled it apart to check continuity on a circuit and it was o ring sealed - so it is likely water- proof. Ive washed my motorcycle w high pressure water several times with no issues.
The leds in the controller just flash now when I try to turn the grips in. Anyone know why the leds just flash and turn off?
A shopper on Jan 13, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I have two sets and they both work the same way. When you first set the number of lights or power that you want, the lights will be on, after a few seconds they will flash off for a brief second and then back on again. They will stay on until turned off. Mine are connected to a relay so when the key is tuned off, they turn off so I don't have to worry about draining the battery by accident. When I turn the key on again all I need to do is hit the power button once and it goes back to the last power setting that I had on. Hope that helps.
Will this fit my Sherco two stroke ?
A shopper on Nov 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Possibly. It comes with various throttle cams for a variety of bikes. If you enter in tour Bke Profile it should say if it comes with the correct adapter. Fits my DR650. Works great.
Should the 2015 KTM XCW 300 stock stator be able to keep up with the draw on these grips? They work great, but are draining my battery faster than the bike can charge it. Wondering if I might have a bad stator?
Justin B on Jan 25, 2020
BEST ANSWER: No your stock stator will not keep up with the demand of these grips. The best solution would be the trail tech stator kit. It produces 100 watts DC (stock stator I believe only produces 30 watts DC) and will have enough to keep your battery charged, run your grips, and power a lighting kit.
Have any of you DRZ 400 guys used these lock on grips ? Mainly looking for info on how well the throttle cam fits the DRZ 400 application, and if the compound is soft enough for adventure use?
Shaun Y on Dec 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Update, they did include the correct throttle cam for a DRZ 400S, but the compound is rediculously firm, as in. They should say LEGO on them. My kit was missing the saddle clamp for the controller mount. I am about to call RM and get that detail addressed.
Will these Tusk MC heated grips work on a 2016 HUSKY FE501S?
Michael R on Mar 24, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for asking. Unfortunately, I do not show these will fit your machine. I apologize for the inconvenience.
How many watts do these use?
Ryan A on Feb 24, 2020
BEST ANSWER: They will be about 30 watts draw

Will these grips fit a 2017 KTM 690 Enduro? Compatible with the Fly by wire throttle design?
Kirk K on Mar 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, this will not fit your machine.
With the popularity of the KTM EXC, and after watching the installation video that shows these getting installed on a KTM 500 EXC, Rocky Mountain does not show a part# that will fit a KTM!!!!
Why is that?? Are they just out of stock or are they not available for the KTM’s anymore?? And if not, why not???
