The TUSK Low-Profile Magnetic Drain Bolt greatly reduces the risk of being hit which can cause expensive crankcase damage. The head of the drain bolt is only 3mm thick (most OE drain bolts are 10mm or larger). The Tusk drain bolt is made from hardened steel and features a magnetic tip to catch the metal contaminants in your oil. A 6mm hex Allen fits deep (7.5mm) into the head of the bolt to ensure easy and safe installation & removal. The drain bolt comes complete with a crush washer for a perfect seal. This custom made drain bolt fits a variety of motorcycles and ATV’s; it is a must for all KLR650 owners (KLR’s are prone to hit the low-hanging drain bolt and break the cases)! Bolt size is M12 x 1.5mm thread pitch x 17.5mm long.

Less chance of damage
I saw that these were quite popular on the KLR forums and it seems like cheap insurance against ripping out a drain plug.

Essential, Cheap
Due to the unique (read: stupid) layout of the KLR650's engine case, a low profile drain plug like this is a must. Even if you don't whang your plug off entirely on a rock, it's easy for natural abrasion and sandblasting from trail and road debris, etc. to round off your stock bolt which will make it difficult to remove later.

This bolt is a direct fit and, true to its name, is low profile. Only about 5mm of head (including the thickness of the washer) sticks out which prevents it from protruding past a stock or aftermarket skid plate, and scrapes across the face are likely to be less detrimental than with the stock bolt. It's removable with a 6mm allen wrench, which is the same size as various aftermarket accessories you probably already have which cuts down on the number of random tools you have to bring with you on long tours (if that's your thing). The stock plug is a 17mm socket, which is only otherwise used to remove the front wheel. So you probably have one of those as a little low profile tire lever/wrench dingus.

This appears to be only poorly zinc plated which is in line with the price point. This is obviously the lowest cost solution on the market. If it were made available, I would gladly pay more for a stainless option. The finish on mine flaked off immediately without abuse (just heat from the engine) and rust set in right away. If rust weakens the Allen socket to the point where you round it out, you're going to have a bad time... Consider these disposable, and plan on replacing it yearly if you ride with any kind of regularity.

The magnetic tip I could take or leave. Magnetic drain plugs have been proven time and time again to accomplish exactly nothing, especially on engines that already have (oversized, in this case) oil filters. Don't count on it saving you from anything, or having any kind of performance or longevity benefit.

Great Product
Have this mounted on my WR250R, got it installed after my first oil change when I bought the bike brand new, I have done 11 oil changes on the bike so far with no issues whatsoever. Definitely recommend this product.

Good value, looks and works great!
I bought this drain plug for my KLR650 as the stock one sticks out really far. This one was easy to install and had the magnetic tip which is also a nice feature. Highly recommend!

Excellent upgrade over the bulky OEM bolt.
Getting this is a no brainer in my book. Sits flush on the case, plus the magnet picks up any foreign objects.

Peace of mind
This plug helps give me a little peace of mind that things are going well inside. Check it on every oil change. Low profile works well with the skid plate. Fit was perfect.

Replaced my worn plug.
Thought it wasn't hard enough before installing. I was right. It's not heavy enough material to last. My metric T handle hex wrench fit it ok, but after multiple oil changes it had slop and I replaced it.

Have any others gotten a Tusk low profile drain plug with shallow threads? Had to run a die over mine before it would screw into the case.
A shopper on Oct 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: ood move. Mine was a bi "tight" as well. Went in ok after initial thread resistance. Torque to 15ft/lbs, not 22ft/lbs like the book says. Some have experienced bolt head cracking with variou low profile style bolts. Wish there was a clean way to drill and safety wire these without compromising the bolt head. Good product, though. I'll probably chase mine with a die next time I change the oil.
Will this fit a 2008 Polaris rzr 800 ?
