How To Install The Tusk Pillion Rack | Honda Africa Twin
If you are not carrying a passenger, add much needed space to your adventure bike with the Tusk Pillion Rack. Simply remove the passenger pillion and mount the Tusk Pillion Rack in its place. The Tusk Pillion Rack mounts securely using OEM hardware and stock bolting locations. This rack features plenty of ways to secure your load with several strapping locations. The Tusk Pillion Rack integrates seamlessly with the Tusk Pannier Racks, and the Tusk Top Rack (which is mounted behind the Tusk Pillion Rack).
Very easy instal and a great fit. Extremely well designed.
As a solo adventure rider I saw this as a great way to add cargo capacity to the bike instead of over the rear fender on stock tail rack. It also allows me to use it as a back rest when the long highway miles are stacking up.
Purchased this to allow me to carry more luggage and have more mounting options. The fit and finish is fantastic. It mounts up in minutes and it integrates seamlessly with the Tusk tail rack and Tusk pannier racks.
I purchased all the items for my 2017 Africa Twin DCT and intended to review each individually. I have a lot of Tusk accessories ands it appears I cannot review the same item for a different bike. So that means all the reviews will be under this one. I have thousands of miles on Tusk racks and panniers and have been very satisfied. I do not carry a passenger on an adventure bike so the pillion rack was a great option. The fit and finish of both racks was great and there is a huge amount of carry space that can be used many different ways depending on the ride. The pannier racks fit great and look very professional. They require a little bit of plastic drilling but if you follow the directions they come out looking like a factory install. If you purchased all three pieces then do the install on the rear pillion mount at the same time as the pannier cross brace. It will save you doing something twice. I currently have a 2016 Adventure R, a 2017 Husqvarna 701, and the Africa Twin. These are all high end adventure bikes and they all have Tusk panniers and racks and two have the Tusk top racks. My only suggestion would be the same as some other comments. Create a foam seal to keep out the crud and maybe use quarter turn locks to secure the pillion rack to open up unused storage. I will probably stow items not accessed everyday there such as epoxy, wire ties, and tire repair items. Thanks for another great product.
Purchased the Tusk Pillion Rack for my new '16 Honda AT 1000 DCT, along with the Tusk Luggage Rack and Pannier Rack. This review is for the Pillion Rack.
I gave it 5 stars across the board because it met all my expectations. Easy install (15-20 mins), good instructions, great fit, great look, great build quality. It does exactly what it's supposed to do; get rid of a passenger and add a place to stow/store luggage. The rack has many tie-down slots which do not compromise structural integrity.
I saw on a forum, a user wanted to know if the install left the pillion rack flush with the luggage rack or not; it does not. There's about a half-inch to three-quarter inch gap in height difference between the two racks, with the pillion rack being the lower of the 2. What the inquiry didn't ask was "does the pillion rack flush mount to the side bars"....which it does. See pics. For me, the "flush with luggage rack" wasn't a consideration. The rack looks good on the bike and adds protection for my Fuzeblock (which is mounted under the rack on top the plastic mudguard).
A+, homerun. Don't frivolously waste your money on the other brands. No need, the Tusk Pillion Rack is great!
This is a nice looking heavy duty piece. It has more strapping holes than the competition. I also think it sits up high on the seat end to give a more level surface. I wish there was a option you could get to utilize the great storage space under it this creates. A foam collar is all that is really needed to keep wet and dirt out and light contents in. I made my own but it would be nice if it came with it.
