The Tusk Portable Tire Changer is a great, easy way to change tires in the shop or at the track. This tire changer will work with all rim sizes 14" and bigger; dirt or street tires. One of the nicest features about this tire changer is the bead breaker; it has several different adjustments for different size tires to ensure good leverage to pop the bead. The changer also has an axle stud that securely holds the wheel in place on top of the rubber coated rim stabilizer that prevents scratching the spokes. Another great feature is the gap in the ring and the lower tab below; this is used to pry on the rim lock to make removal simple. With its compact design, it is perfect for the shop, trailer, or even trackside.
  • The stand makes changing motorcycle tires an easy job.
  • Works great with all motorcycle wheels 14" and bigger.
  • Compact and light weight design for easy transportation.
  • Equipped bead breaker to pop the bead on tires.
  • Included sturdy axle stud and rubber coated ring hold the wheel tight.
  • Handy rim lock gap to pry on when you get a stubborn rim lock.
  • Durable steel construction with black powder-coating.

Needs modified to work
I give this a lower score due to needing to modify the tool before using. The center bolt that is supposed to go thru the axle hole is too large for some wheels. This tool will not work on my 2017 honda. If you have a lathe then you can turn down the threads or make a different shaft. I recommend it if you have the capability to modify it. It is advertised to do all motorcycle wheels,,, it won’t.

Portable?
Yes, it is portable in the bed of a pickup, or some other storage, but I just wanted to make it clear that it is not meant to be carried in a backpack to change tires on the go. I would think this would be obvious, but I guess not

It's a great product though so I highly recommend it.

Bad design
I hate the tire iron holder more than I can possibly describe. It’s constantly in the way!! I will literally never use the tire iron holder (the vertical cylinder attached to the rubberized ring). It prevents me from using the preferred technique for changing mousses. Yes it can still be done various ways, but it’s a bit limiting where I can rotate the wheel to because the damn tire iron holder would bend my spokes if I let them sit on top of it.

I’m seriously very upset with whoever designed this because it would be an awesome tire changer if not for this stupid decision.

Also the rod in the middle limits the travel of the bead breaker so the bead breaker can’t be used to push the tire of the rim like a Rabaconda can.

Yes I know this thing is a cheap tire changer, but it could easily be way better with less cost by just excluding the tire iron holder (can’t even put tire irons in it while changing a tire anyway because the wheel needs to rotate.

Awesome.
Love it. Money well spent. Changed two tires in 30 mins. That’s 90 mins faster than before lol. Wish I had bought one 10 years ago.

Do not use for Bib Mousse install
This machine might be OK for just mounting tires (I use a 30 gallon drum as it is perfect height) but it is useless for using it to try to install a bib mousse foam tube. This thing has many issues. Moose Racing makes a much better machine for Bib's and it is much cheaper than the Rabaconda. Buy that instead, believe me.

Big help in changing tires. Makes it a lot less hassle just by holding things securely while you work.

Can’t beat the price
This changer is almost perfect. I had some trouble with the bead breaker staying in place, but would just have to adjust and tighten the screw again. Also, theres a welded piece of tubing on the inside of the stand that catches the spokes. Besides these two things, it worked well. Its a fraction of the cost of the super fancy ones and still gets the job done when changing bibs.

Will this work for dual rotar wheels?
Ryan J on Dec 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: There is 5 3/4 inches from center post to little ring welded to the rim to act as a stop to hold a spoke when you clamp down a rim.If you were to grind this non- essential part off you would have 7 inches (14'' diameter) clearance. I checked the dual disc 19'' front wheel of my KTM and it was a little under the 7 inches, so a dual disc wheel may fit. I think this tool is geared more toward dirtbike tires. The center post was too large for front wheels of both generations of KLR 650.
Will this device work for the TUbliss tire system?
JIM P on Aug 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I use it with tubliss. I clamp it to one of those partlcle board/laminate folding leg tables that I carry in my trailer. The biggest thing changing tires with tubliss, IMO is just making sure you don't pinch the red liner with a tire iron.
I use the stand as somthing stable to set the wheel on, use the bead breaker to break the bead but also when installing a tire I use the bead breaker to push the last bit of the bead over the rim. It is much easier than reefing on it with tire irons, and with tubliss I've got the whole thing soaped up with the soapy water solution so it ends up being much easier on your knuckles using the bead breaker to push the last part of the bead over instead of prying with tire irons. You still have to do the initial part of putting the tire around the rim off of the stand using the tubliss metal piece made for sliding the wheel into the tire, but after that it goes on the stand.
Good day, just a quick question, I am wondering what the dimension are for the product and/or packaging it comes in? I need to know because I want to fly it with me abroad.
Andre B on Sep 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: you can take the gold bar off with a wrench.however the width is close to 2 feet with it off. maybe a little over. thank you for your question.
Will this properly change both tires of my 2018 Yamaha xt250?
RUEL P on May 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have used this tool to change front and rear tires on my 2014 Yamaha WR250R 21"F /18"R numerous times.
It does a great job of breaking the bead and pushing it down into the center groove.
I use a liberal amount of lube to aid in the removal and installation of tires / tubes.
What size is the center axle post? Between my bikes and the kids, I have axles sizes 12, 15, 17, 25, and 30mm!
Brian E on Jul 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Axle stud threaded ends are 0.602-in (15.2-mm) as measured with an HF 6-in caliper. Hole in changer is a little larger at 0.636-in. I am guessing that the axle stud is 5/8-11 coarse thread. Changer works really well; however the axle stud is not threaded from end to end; large gap in the middle. I had to make a ~3-in long spacer to accommodate my 12RT rear wheel. I’ve thought about replacing the axle stud with a 5/8-11 x 12” all thread rod next time I use it for my application. As for your 12-mm (OEM might be tight for 15-mm) application, you could try a 1/2-13 and/or 3/8-16 all thread rod with corresponding sized nuts and fender washers.
will this work for a DR650 front and rear wheel?
Billy N on Jun 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I’ve used multiple times for tire changes and to hold the wheel for sprocket changes. Great tool, works great. I bolted it to a Stanley fold down portable workbench.
What is the little circle piece welded onto the top ring coated in rubber for? In hits on the spokes as I'm trying to rotate the tire on the stand.
Cody G on Jul 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It’s purpose is a tire iron holder.
yes it always got in my way so I took a grinder and cut it off and smoothed out the edges . Now the wheel will rotate no problem.
Also this might help as well,
I had many problems trying to get the stand to stay put while removing the tire , so I bolted the stand to a 4’ by 4’ piece of plywood.
Now it works great
What is the circular piece welded to the top round rail for? Tusk mentions nothing about it and I see where others just cut or grind it off.
SCOTT J on Feb 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Been a minute since I got this tool so I'm unsure what "circular piece" you are referring too??... I did grind off a small welded on tab from this rail to allow it to be used on rims with very large brake rotor's (GS 800 front wheel). This is a very handy item, I use it to keep the bead pushed down into the rim when mounting as well.
I need a portable tire changer that will handle motorcycle tires and UTV tires. Will this work for UTV tires?
Marc F on Mar 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I bought one of these tire changers thinking I'd change tires on my BMW R1200GS. No way. I ruined it, first try. It's a pretty lightweight tool designed for dirt bikes, not hulking ADV monsters. It might work on UTV tires, but the wheel must be at least 14 inches, and the bead breaker lever might need to be modified. It's questionable. Sorry I can't be more definite.
Will this bead breaker fit the Tusk tire changing stand?
Preston T on Sep 29, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No. This is a portable version.
Can i purchase the bead breaker without the stand??
MICHAEL M on Jun 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately we do not sell just the breaker alone.
