Handy blokes check their spokes
“That guy at the track or on the trail who’s day ends early because of broken or loose spokes” or: “one who does not realize that it is necessary to check and torque spokes after every few rides in order to maintain proper wheel operation, trueness, and proper handling”

Nice quality tool.
Bought for my new dirt bike. I only had 20 hours on my bike when I bought this. I can't believe how many spokes needed to be tightened...and some, a lot! It's an expensive tool, but I'm happy to know my spokes are now perfect all the time, and can get my suspension dialed in 100%.

Tusk torque wrench spoke wrench
As a 60-something guy I've never had a torque spoke wrench. Always done it by sound. These new KTMs have spokes that need attention after every practice moto or moto. I badly adjusted the spokes on one of the wheels and ended up with serious run out and the wheel had to be re-trued.

After that I got the Tusk torque spoke wrench (and although the spokes still need attention) I haven't had a run out issue since.

Easy to use, heck, even I can do it!!

Works great
I purchased this to lace up a new wheel and spoke kit with my stock hubs, now I wish I always had it to check torque instead of using a manual wrench and a guess. It was worth the money to get the right tool, a little cheaper wouldn't hurt, but this thing seems built well.

Torque peice of mind
This works well. It gives you good peice of mind knowing everything is being tightened exactly so the wheel stays true. It only measures ft pounds. A torque wrench measures the amount of force a bolt is tightened with. The common metric measurement uses newton meters, and the standard (imperial/US) measurement uses foot pounds. A variation of foot pounds is inch pounds, which is used for smaller torques.

If something has a torque measurement of 5 foot pounds, that means that if you have a wrench that is 1 foot long, you would need to push on the end with 5 lbs of force to cause the nut to rotate. Alternatively, if you had a wrench that was 5 feet long, then you would only need to push on it with 1 pound of force to get it to rotate.

Here are some conversions:

1 foot pound (or pound foot) = 12 inch pounds

1 newton meter = 0.7376 pound feet

1 newton meter = 8.8507 pound inches

So if your Manual gives specs in newton meters then you need to convert it to ft pounds. It works smooth and consistently. The case is nice.

Torque range too large
The lowest torque setting is larger than the recommended torque on the spokes. For my 2018 YZ250F I had to "over torque" the spokes to use the wrench. I have not used the tool long enough to rate the durability. Functions well otherwise.

Hello.
Tusk Spoke Torque Wrench Kit.
Part# 1340930002.
When the key reaches its setting you hear "click" or not?
Regards.
Joaquin Richter
A shopper on Sep 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, there will be a slight "Click" when it reaches its applied setting.
Hello. My RMZ 250 came with a 6.4 and 6.8 wrench. I am curious why Tusk does not include a 6.4 wrench in this kit or separately. The 6.4 does not fit my front spokes as tight as I think it should. Would the 6.3 fit better in anyone's opinion? The 6.8 is also a bit loose on my rear wheel spokes. Maybe 6.4 was provided to cover more than one size of spoke. Thanks
Craig B on Jan 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have found that the Tusk Spoke Torque Wrench nipple bits to be low in tolerance control and some even marked in the wrong sequential order, I.e., higher number fits a smaller spoke nipple. The problem with the spoke nipple bit fitting a bit loose comes into more of an issue with older wheels where the galvanic corrosion between the spoke, nipple and rim has taken a hold and is binding the nipples to the spokes and have bit into the rim too. A lose wrench bit can round off the nipples real fast. So, it is best to pre-lubricate the spokes a day before with penetrating oil to let it soak in to help break the corrosion lose. Also remember to first turn the spoke in the loosing direction 1/8th to 1/4th turn to break it free first before fighting it and make sure that the bit is fully engaged with the nipple to have the greatest strength resistance to founding off. Regardless of the bit number, use the tightest fitting bit that will fit the nipple.
Will this work with ktm?
DAVID M on Sep 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the 6.9mm size (included) works with my KTM 350 XCF-W. I think the KTM SXF and XCF 250-350-450 use the same size.
whats size spoke nipples (front and rear) does a 2015 kx450f have?
A shopper on Feb 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 6.0 in the front and 6.7 in the rear according to OEM.
will this toool work for my 2008 crf450r front/rear
tusk spoke kit or are the sizes different from stock ?
kyle f on Jan 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You will have to find out what size the spoke nipples are and see if they are included in the kit.
Does the tool have to be recalibrated after a certain period of time?
corey w on Jan 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No, it doesn't have to be recalibrated, unless you want super accuracy. It's a spoke wrench after all and not used in a critical application.

The criteria is to get all the spokes the same tension so you alleviate stresses that could allow the wheel to get out of round.

Even if it is out by 3 pounds, as long as all the spokes are the same you are good.

You could do a rough calibration by torquing against another good quality torque wrench in a store and looking at the difference.
What is the difference in selecting "front" or "rear" when purchasing?
Gary B on Apr 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Don’t know. I think it has all spoke open wrench sizes you need. Check your spokes and check that this has sizes you want. Works great. Use it all the time
Will this work on both my sons 17 ktm85 and 18 Ktm 65?
Scott on Nov 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I would think so as it comes with several sizes of heads for different spokes. It works very well.
Will this work on a Tt-r 230 ?
A shopper on Jun 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: yes, it will work on most all spoked moto wheels. other size wrench tips are available separately if needed.
Can someone tell me how much to torque the spokes to on my 2014 yz250f?
Shane C on Feb 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Shane,
You should be able to refer to your manual to get the spec. I found mine there.
Are other 'head' adapters sizes available?
darin h on Dec 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don't think so. I checked RM website could not find any other adapters for the tusk wrench. If you have spline spoke nipples you can get that adapter for the faast torque wrench. Works great on my Husky and Suzuki's . Hope this helps.
The printed instructions indicate how to set the wrench to 85 FT-Lbs. The wrench however is stamped In.lb. My manual states to torque the spikes at 4.5 lb-ft. So what is it that I do? Is the wrench correct? Or are the instructions which have conversions listed in Lb-ft?
Clay H on Oct 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Multiply ft-lbs by 12 to get inch-lbs
