I'll admit it. I've been known to compromise on some gear in order to achieve the same goal and to save a few bucks. Premium helmets cost a grip of cash, and your discretionary income varies on a lot of things. I get it. You'll get no judgment from me. Shoei is a premium helmet that commands premium pricing. What you get in return for those hard earned dollars is a fit and finish that is unparalleled (except for Arai perhaps), ventilation that works, and a helmet that is built to last. My Shoei NeoTec is entering its 7th year of service and is as solid as the day I bought it. After a couple of months and a thousand miles in the Hornet X2, I have no doubt that this helmet will stand the test of time. It is very similar to the NeoTec and other helmets in the Shoei line in fit, finish, and function. It just works. Your nugget is arguably the most important thing you protect while riding. If you have the means to get one, it'll be worth every penny should you ever have to put it to the test. If you don't, the comfort and build quality alone will be enough to warrant the price of entry.

Super comfy, not too noisy, fits like a dream after a ride or two. Only 4 stars is because I had to cut some of the insert out for my Cardo speakers because they were pressing against my ears. Cut out from the factory would've made this 5 stars.

Just received my XD4 and only have less than 300 miles of use. Still in the honeymoon stage of this purchase. The craftsmanship and quality is superior. XD4 is heavier, but when wearing, it's not noticeable. Give me a few months and I'll have an honest assessment.

Decided not to keep after trying on multiple times, and wanting it to work. Felt the shell was undersized for a size large. Felt like my chin was either poking out or had it so far tilted forward the back of my head felt exposed. The peak in the lowest position didn't seem to block sunlight without tipping my head too far down. Didn't like the front grip point to open the visor, nor the thick bottom to the visor. Good construction, great price, like that it had mips, like that you can order an auto tint shield, and a liner for cold weather but in the end the comfort wasn't there. I've been spoiled by the comfort of more expensive helmets. However there hasn't been any updates in design on the XD4 which made me want to try the Bell.
