Details

The Gaerne GX-1 is an entry level boot that's designed to make zero sacrifices when it comes to comfort and protection. And because you still get the same level of quality as Gaerne's high-end boots at a more affordable price point, the GX-1s represent a value that's very hard to match. The GX-1 is made in Italy just like Gaerne's flagship SG-12, and the two boots share the same premium leather and durable plastic components.

The GX-1 doesn’t skimp on protection, giving you a reinforced heel counter, a beefy shin plate, and a series of reinforced, anti-abrasion fabrics. Alloy buckles close everything up, and once you're buckled in you'll find the GX-1 is stiff enough for motocross but also flexible enough for dual-sport and trail riding. Riders say the boots have a very comfortable fit that benefits from a lack of creasing or bunching.

They also mention a very short break-in period and a slightly wider toe box, similar to the width on most Gaerne boots. Gaerne understands the stress that even light riding can put on boots. So when they make an entry level boot like the GX-1, you know you’re getting a boot with the same spirit and the same quality as the rest of Gaerne's lineup.

    Specs:
  • Made in Italy
  • Light-alloy four buckle closure system
  • High-quality stitched sole
  • Easy break in
  • Wide toe box
  • Reinforced shin plate and heel counter
  • Genuine leather calf protection
  • Steel shank inside durable sole
  • Breathable internal fabric and padding
  • Elasticated gaiter
  • New sleek styling

Wow. Nice boot right out of the box. Fits to size and breaks in fast. Buckles could use an update but otherwise one of the best boot deals around.

Best boots around $200
I have tried almost every brand of boots in the last year trying to find one that fits my fat feet and skinny ankles. These boots have a nice wide footbed and enough adjustment I can get them nice and tight. These are the best fitting boots out of the box at this price point by far! No pinch points or uncomfortable creases. They fit fairly big. I wear an 8 shoe, and ordered these in an 8. I added gel inserts and they fit very comfortably. Without the inserts they would have been a bit roomy and I may have had to try the 7s. Very minimal heel float, and big enough up top to run braces or pads. I'm definitely buying Gaernes again.

Great so far
Don't have riding time in them yet, but initial review is that they look great. I wear 8.5 or 9 in most of my shoes so went with a 9 in these boots. They were too big by a fair amount. RM's exchange policy was flawless and a pair of 8's arrived today. Even the 8's will have room for thick socks. Everything looks to be of high quality. Have to agree with other assessments that this is a lot of boot for the money.

Great boot for the money
I raced a lot in years past and always wore the higher end stuff. Alpinestars, SG-12's etc. Getting back into riding I didn't want to drop 5 bills on boots. These boots are great for the money. Very comfortable from the start, no pinch points, good protection and they have held up very well so far (couple years). I tried another lower cost boot and it was not as good. Hats off to Gaerne for not compromising their brand by making junk just to hit a price point. They are not SG-12's (my personal fav) but they are very good for the money.

Best boot under $300
After doing a ton of research online, I ended up getting these GX-1 boots. I'm a weekend warrior that trail rides and does a few races a year. My old Alpinestars held up great but it was time for replacement. I wear a 10.5 in street shoes and got size 11. With two pair of socks on, they fit perfect. One pair, they are too loose. They are very snug, I think they will be fairly waterproof for stream crossings, blasting through big puddles. I like the different materials and lots of hard plastic combined with padding inside. Buckles and everything feels really high quality.

good protection and quality with style
1st day was different as this is my first pair. Boots were a bit stiff so you have to break them in by wearing them for a day or so. But after that feels great, secure with great control. I wear knee braces and they fit well around it even with my large calfs. The adjustable straps are great and they look good. I'm 100% statified.

amazing boot that you don't have to break the budget for!
I bought these boots going on 4 years ago. I've raced XC or ridden trails nearly every weekend in those 4 years, and these boots still are in great shape! not a single tear, chunk out of the sole, no broken/lost buckles, and still as comfortable as the day I bought them. absolutely no break in time required, you can ride in them comfortably right out of the box. an all around great boot.

Quality Boot Without the Price Tag
Very comfortable, and show zero wear after 10 hours of use. Not overly bulky, keeps water out reasonably well, and don't weigh a ton. There was almost no break-in required for these boots. Literally wore them around the house for ten minutes and went riding for a few hours. No discomfort at all. My arches aren't sore at all after riding like other budget-friendly boots. Best part- they're Gaerne boots without spending like an SG-12!

Downsides for me: the first buckle down from the top buckle needs about a half-inch extra on the strap. Mine is on it's largest tooth and I need my pants, socks, and the water seal on the boot to be in the right spot to be able to close this buckle without getting sleepy feet. I only notice this when I first put them on for the day, however, and never while riding. Also, there is no tread if you need it (I harescramble...poorly), but if you stay on the bike it's not a problem. Then ankle doesn't articulate like it does on the SG-series, so while the ankle leather does bulge slightly it's only noticeable when walking around and looking for it.

How well do these keep water out?
Robert W on Oct 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would rate them very good. We have a lot of shallow streams where I ride and they are no problem. Maybe a wet spot or two after a day of riding, but overall pretty dry.
If I wear a women’s size 9. What size would I wear in this boot?
Debe G on Jan 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: When converting women's sizes in to men's sizes in boots you need to go down two whole sizes. So a women's size 9 would be a men's size 7.
I wear a 10.5 in shoes should I go with the size 10 or the 11? I hear they run a little big?
ALEX B on Jan 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I wear 12.5 and bought a 13. Its roomy and comfortable but i wouldnt want a 12. I couldnt even try to fit a fox 13 or alpinstars 13. They were much too tight. If you can fit those in your size, go down. If not, go up. Gaerne is very accurate to shoe size in quality brand shoes.
