Details

The LS2 Pioneer Helmet is a new offering in the company’s lineup that’s made for dual-sport and adventure riders that lean more towards spirited off-road riding. And with good venting, solid ergos, and a light weight, LS2 largely succeeds while still keeping the price affordable.

The polycarb shell is made of LS2’s proprietary Kinetic Polymer Alloy that comes in 3 shell sizes and a trim 3.3 pounds weight that outclasses most other polycarb helmets. Even more impressive, that light weight includes both DOT and ECE certs and an internal drop-down sun visor that LS2 did really well, and should really put on more helmets.

Beyond that the Pioneer gets a bump up to 7 intake vents that will always be open, a visor shape that’s plenty large for comfortably wearing goggles, and a peak that’s extra flexible so it won’t crack or break on you during normal use. And with a long oval head-shape the Pioneer works for most riders with plenty of space to spare up front in the beak.

    Specs:
  • 3.3 pound weight
  • Long oval head shape
  • DOT and ECE 22.05 certified
  • 7 forward facing intake ports
  • 4 rear facing exhaust ports
  • Built-in, drop-down internal sun visor
  • 3 shell sizes
  • Optically correct face shield
  • Large eye port easily accommodates goggles
  • Lightweight, Kinetic Polymer Alloy shell.
  • Multi-density EPS impact liner
  • Removable, washable comfort liner
  • Emergency Release System cheek pads are quick release and contour, laser cut foam
  • Quick Release System chin strap for easy on and off.

Nice helmet, visor needs work.
Helmet fits well, very comfortable. The tinted visor does not go all the way down, I might try to modify it.

It would have been perfect for my purpose.
I liked it a lot once I got a proper fit (medium), unfortunately the sun visor was defective and this was the last one in my preferred color, so I had to return it for credit.

Fills my need for quick local rides.
Good inexpensive dual sport helmet for tooling around town and local fire roads on my EXC-F. When I do serious off-roading I grab my mx helmet and goggles. I mostly ride hot climates so appreciated the good airflow. I wear earplugs on the highway so noise isn’t a problem.

New rider
This is my first motorcycle so I’m not sure about noise but I can’t even here my bike running over the noise the wind makes against this helmet. Still comfortable and Rocky Mountain got my order here fast.

Cheek squeezer
This looks and feels like a high quality helmet, all the vents worked properly, the interior visor mechanism seemed very good and smooth. But, as with other reviewers, the helmet fits the head the way it should with the exception of the cheek pads that pressed so hard it was obvious that the first jump or big bump even and I would be biting my cheeks. I did not go for the next size bigger as the rest of it fit perfectly.

Loudest helmet ever!
I really want to like this helmet and I waited to write a review but I just finished a 100mi ride on my Africa Twin and it was unbearable due to how much wind noise this helmet creates.
I found that taping over the vents on the cheek areas and at the top helps quite a bit but the aerodynamics of this helmet are about as good as a mailbox. The angular area of the chin create a LOT of turbulence so it sounds like a 747 is taking off directly over your head at any speed above 25 mph. Even with earplugs in I just want to stop riding whenever I wear this helmet. In comparison, my FLY F2 motocross helmet with goggles is much quieter.
The quality is pretty good for a helmet in this price range. The fit is pretty strange as its really snug in the cheek area. It runs small too, I tried XXL and had to exchange it for a XXXL, the strange thing is the triple XL didnt really seem much bigger at all.
To fit any type of speakers inside, even the thin Sena smh-10, you will have to trim out some foam. Ventilation is good, until you have to tape over the front vents to prevent hearing loss. Visor has a bit of distortion but its not too noticeable once riding. The drop down sun visor is great.
This helmet would be great if someone at LS2 actually rode with it and realized how terribly loud it was and then reshaped the entire helmet.
Overall I would not recommend unless you are deaf or really want to be.

Good helmet for the price, it’s noisy & top seems shallow. I wear XL in my dirt helmets & cheak pads seem about the same.
I have fairly chunky cheaks & pads wear in.

Great helmet for the money
This is a really nice helmet for the price. It looks good and fits well. It feels light. It’s not the quietest helmet I’ve ever worn but again it’s not a $600 Arai. I would buy again.

Does the bend in the sheild distort your vision at all when wearing this helmet?

BEST ANSWER: Not for me. I have used the LS2 with/without glasses/sun-glasses and no issues. The sun-visor does sit just below my mid-field of vision vertically when down however. It doesn't distort your vision laterally. It's a bit bothersome when sitting right across your field of vision vertically. This may be different for others. It's a minor issue. If re-designed, I would hope they have the sun visor come down further. Otherwise this is one of the best dual-sport helmets I have ever worn.
When you raise the face shield does it go up completely out of your field of view? Does the helmet come with the sunshield or do you have to buy it as an option? Thanks for taking time to answer these questions.
Jeff W on Jan 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jeff
I have started using these dual sport helmets over the past couple years and really prefer them to googles any more. The visors do go out of the way when raised and are not a distraction at all. Sun visor is part of the system and use it frequently...does not come down to fill your vision completly but does a good job of cutting the glare and provides enough shade to not have to wear sunglasses for me. I have this helmet and really like the fit and over all feel. Has a solid construction of the moving parts and I like the chin strap feature as well. I spend more time off road than on with these but even at highway speeds this is quiet and also vents well even in the slower sections. Fit is snug but not pinchy Buy with confidence
How many face shield detents are there ? If there are only two, can one snug down the screws for a friction fit ?
GREG F on Aug 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Like other LS2s there are only 2 detents. Sometimes it will stay in the middle but I have had no better luck tightening it down. At high speed it will always move to detents.
Can I buy smaller cheek pads?
Barbara M on Dec 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can but they tend to run tight to the face anyways. Check to make sure you are using the right size helmet, I normally use a large but with the Pioneer I have a medium.
