If you’re a rider that’s looking for premium protection at a price that is still within reach, the Pod MX K4 Knee Brace Pair is a great option that blends performance and price. The K4 works as the little brother to the K8 Knee Brace and the replacement to the K300, which has been popular for years. Now Pod has created the K4 to blend together premium features from the K8 with the affordability of the K300.

Main differences include a glass fiber reinforced polymer frame that ditches the K8’s carbon fiber construction for a much more economical solution. The K4 still retains its floating patella coverage and the strength to limit hyperextension, rotational, and impact injuries. Weight is also kept to a trim 1.36 lbs. (620 grams) per brace.

The HUMAN MOTION™ dual hinge setup is unique to Pod in that it uses an artificial ligament instead of a mechanical hinge for articulation that really does follow the natural movement of your knee. Inside the hinges you get an adjustable lockout that ranges from 0 degrees (full leg extension) to 25 degrees (about ¼ bend at knee) for adjustability that works in conjunction with the customizable fit/comfort padding inserts on the interior of the brace.

    Specs:
  • Pair of both left and right braces
  • High-end performance with a mid-level price
  • Weighs 620 grams/1.3 pounds per brace
  • Effortless and nearly silent hinge operation

    Protection
  • Helps prevent hyperextension, rotational, and impact related injuries
  • Flexibility built into cuffs absorb rotational energy
  • Glass fiber reinforced polymer frame/chassis
  • Full floating patella protection always covers knee cap
  • Artificial ligament provides natural range of motion compared to mechanical hinges

    Comfort
  • HUMAN MOTION™ hinge mimics natural movement of knee joint
  • 4 strap system is numbered for order of closure to provide most security
  • Fits wide range of leg sizes using adjustable straps, hinge spacers, and flexible cuffs
  • Soft, moisture wicking interior padding
  • Premium interior padding increases comfort while reducing pressure points and discomfort

    Customized Versatility
  • Interchangeable lock out inserts include 0 to 25 degree adjustability
  • Impact panels and patella protection are completely removable
  • Multiple protection orientations for various sports like MX, snowboarding, surfing, etc.
  • Interchangeable interior knee pads create a custom fit to your leg
  • Easily serviceable hinge, inserts, and padding can be done yourself at home or the pits

    Sizing
Knee circumference measurement should be taken directly under the knee cap using a soft tape measure or string. Take measurements in a weight bearing position at full extension (i.e. with leg full straight).
  • X-Small/Small............... 11.6" – 13.4"

Pod K4 Knee Braces
These were my first set of braces, I looked at several different ones before finally deciding on these. Right out of the box I liked the design and protection the offered. It took me a little while to get them adjusted like I thought the should fit my knees. The first ride with them was good and I really didn't notice them at all while riding. I didn't notice an slipping down my leg or any discomfort at all. So far I'm pretty happy and would recemend them if you're in the market for knee braces. Rocky Mountain is the best to do business with no doubt. Thanks

Not just for riding!
Let me start by saying I really like these braces. Ive dislocated both my knees twice playing high school sports, so I dont take chances when it comes to protection. The main reason i went with the K4s is the knee guard is removable if you dont need the impact protection. So I can use the k4s skiing because they have incredible twisting and hyper extending protection, but dont need the knee guard.

However, the knee guard is exactly the reason I give the Durability and Protection less than 5. The knee guard is somewhat thin and flexible so it has some marks from harder falls off my bike. If you are racing mx and hitting large jumps, i would maybe look into the leatts because the knee guard is fixed and much more durable. But i ride mostly single track/technical slow speed so it didn't really matter to me. Plus i can use this guard in multiple sports.

The k4s have adjustable knee "stoppers" that keeps the knee from hyper extending. This has saved me multiple times when I plant my leg hard through a turn.

The very bottom of the brace meets right with the top of my boots, so the fit is perfect. No need to tuck the brace into the boot and i have basically full leg protection from impacts.

With any brace, i had a little trouble getting used to squeezing the bike with my legs because the extra material between my bike and knee. But after a few hours i completely forgot i was wearing them.

I did a lot of research before purchasing the k4s and they are best fit for me. Multiple sports, comfortable, fits with boots, and protection the a basic knee guard cant give (flexing, extending, impact, etc) Would definitely buy again.

Fit good and comfortable
These are my first knee braces and after a few rides I forgot I was wearing them. High quality construction but the rubber knee stops were a little tricky to get installed.

Stupid is as stupid does
Mid to late 80s amature raved then life got in the way. Now 46 and wanted to give my kiddos the opportunity to experience motocross. I bought all of us bikes and went to the track - kiddos were watching and I didn’t even make it a lap as my leg caught a rut and pop went the ACL & MCL. Determined to make it more than a lap I had surgery and rehab. Studied all the braces and went with the K4s for the ability to use for other activities. So far they have been great and will soon go out to the track to complete more than one lap. I haven’t been in a situation where I can say they saved my knees however, with knee braces on I feel a significant improvement in stability.

Great
I love these braces but I have gone through 1 race season with these and I have probably put 200 hours on them and the ligaments eventually break I get that but they break too often to spend $30 on each side to replace them so I have to use zip ties after every ride to keep them together

You Get What You Pay For
Very satisfied with the Pod MX K4 braces thus far. After doing extensive research and reading an overwhelming amount of positive reviews, I decided to take the plunge and spend the money on a pair.

Worth every penny (especially if you don't want to blow all your money on the carbon fiber version), and compared to knee surgery (had ACL reconstructed) they're pretty affordable. They've already saved me from a couple hard crashes, leaving me unscathed.

Lightweight and very comfortable, highly durable and protective. Though I recommend wearing knee brace socks with them as the velcro pieces that attach to the insides of the braces can rub and irritate the skin.

Other than that, I have zero complaints and am happy with my purchase.

I love these braces
I ordered these after trying on the Mobius x8 and love the way they fit and feel. I guess my legs just require a traditional strap configuration because to me, these are twice as comfortable as the Mobius braces. They snug up nice and with the different pads and shims you can get a good fit. I highly recommend measuring your knee width instead of doing the circumference measurement. I did the circumference measurement when i first ordered and it put me in a M/L for the left and an XL/2XL for the right. After receiving the braces, the XL/2XL was too big. Then I used calipers to measure the width and found I should have ordered the M/L to begin with. These braces are very comfortable once you get the right size and get them set up.

Great but...
I recently bought a pair of the knee braces and at first I loved them they fit great and gave great protection but the actual patella guard that is removable is very suspectable to being broken in the event of a crash because it is only held on my two little pieces of plastic. I wasn't riding for more than 10 minutes and I had a minor tip over and landed on my knee and when I got back to m truck i realized that it had broken but I sent it back and I was sent a new patella gaurd and haven't had an issue since.

Listen to the reviews
When I was looking into a knee brace I checked every review for all the manufacturers out there! RMATV reps helped with size and gave me some great fit pointers! Now that I have finally finished the year of riding I must say this is the most comfortable gear I've ever used!!! I feel bulletproof with these on and ride without fear of blowing a knee! If they ever fail or wear out I will replace with the same ones!!! I'm 58 and can't afford to blow money or a knee.

Are there any issues with this brace and fitment w/ MX boots?
Larry H on May 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have large calfs and wear a size 10 boot. With the tech 7 there is about an inch of Velcro left exposed with the brace on. The benefit of the brace outweighs the little bit of Velcro showing. Other than that very happy with the purchase.
Can you buy spare spacers and replacement synthetic ligaments for the pod mx k4? I havent seen any listing for those and they seem like wear parts
Steve M on Dec 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They are available. 'Re-build kits' are like $40 I think. I had to call rocky mtn and talk to a rep to find a part #. I've got about 5 rides with these..I like them.
