Huge congratulations to team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-
KTM-WPS’s Blake Baggett for grabbing his second podium of 2019 in Oakland tonight with a 3rd place during round 4. Despite some tricky races during the first few rounds of the season, Baggett has proven that he is definitely in the running to be a contender for the 450SX championship this year.

It has been two weeks since Baggett got past Anderson to take the lead and gain the win at Glendale. Baggett had a bit of a rough week in Anaheim 2 when he clipped a tough block and the cover got sucked into his rear wheel and chain, resulting in a 15th place finish overall. However, still inside the top 10 overall with 8th place, Baggett entered Oakland with a determination to make up some points.

Baggett began the day by qualifying in 12th place, but changed the tone of his day when he was first off the line in his heat race. He earned both the holeshot and the early lead before riding out in front of the pack for a couple of laps. Eli Tomac and Cole Seely eventually got around him for 1st and 2nd, respectively, but Baggett claimed the final podium spot in Heat 1 and secured himself a spot in the main event.

Baggett had a bit of a crazy main event, getting a rough start and finding himself stuck in the middle of the pack at the beginning of the main. But he quickly set his sights on the front of the pack and started picking his way through the riders ahead of him. By the time there was only five minutes left on the clock, Baggett had worked his way up from 12th to 3rd – passing several riders who’d been running up front, such as Tomac and Ken Roczen. He used the last few laps to keep his focus on riding steady and holding onto the final podium position, which he was able to do as he crossed the finish line at Oakland in 3rd place for podium number two in 2019.

With a great charge on the night, Baggett gained some valuable points and ended the evening in 7th place overall. We’re looking forward to another great week in San Diego!
