2016 Polaris General
Polaris, the groundbreaking manufacturer known for its popular RZR and Ranger side-by-sides, announced an entirely new machine to add it its already impressive UTV lineup. The Polaris General™ is being marketed as a “rec-utility” UTV, and it’s not hard to understand why. It features many of the performance and utility attributes that have made the RZR and Ranger lines so popular. The result is a new side-by-side that is certain to make an impact in the industry and will be a big player in Polaris’ lineup for many years to come.
The General will be available in three different models, with some hitting dealerships in December. See the specifications below for a comparison of the three models.
Polaris General Features
The General utilizes a ProStar 999cc twin engine, delivering 100 horsepower and 65 foot-pounds of torque. It features a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio for maximum performance, allowing it to go 0-40 mph in 3.6 seconds. It also has 1,100 lbs. total payload (including a 600 lbs. dump box) and a towing capacity of 1,500 lbs. The result is a machine that has the power to match the performance of a RZR and the workload of a Ranger.
The Polaris General utilizes four-wheel disc brakes with dual-piston calipers on 9″ steel rotors to provide excellent stopping power to match its high-powered engine. It features a high-performance close ratio all-wheel drive, enabling it to tackle challenging terrain. Front and rear sway bars provide exceptional handling.
The Polaris General Deluxe model comes with Fox Podium X 2.0 shocks that feature an adjustment knob, allowing the firmness of the shocks to be altered with just the turn of a dial. (For more information on the differences between models, see the specs below.) With 12″ ground clearance, the General is able to handle even difficult environments.
The cab is protected by standard half doors with automotive-style latches and excellent sealing against water. The bucket seats are both secure and comfortable. The driver’s seat can slide forward or backward, and the steering wheel can pivot up or down. Handholds have been placed at the passenger’s sides. Polaris has completely redesigned the cockpit, which includes customizable digital instrumentation. Including both the in-dash storage and the center console, 23 liters of storage area is available.
