It was the second year that Monster Energy Supercross graced East Rutherford (sometimes referred to as the New York round). However, the event had special significance as it was the first time that supercross was broadcast live on FOX.

Cole Seely moved into the lead early in the race, while both Eli Tomac and Ryan Dungey suffered from bad starts. Once in 1st, Seely pulled away from the rest of the pack. However, Tomac charged ahead, determined to catch Seely. Although Seely initially had quite a bit of distance between himself and the rest of the group, once Tomac was in 2nd, he slowly whittled away at the Seely’s lead, finally taking over the 1st spot for himself. Once Tomac was in 1st, he moved away from Seely and everyone else. No one caught him.

Dungey was also working his way up through the pack. One lap after Tomac moved into 1st, Dungey was also able to pass Seely. Although he couldn’t catch Tomac, he was able to maintain 2nd. Seely similarly held onto 3rd.

Although a final race remains, the top three spots are practically already determined. Dungey clinched the championship several races ago, and now it look as though Tomac will take 2nd in the final standings, followed by Seely in 3rd. There is still technically a small enough points gap for Seely to pass Tomac, though it is unlikely as Seely would need to place 1st and Tomac would need to not race at all. It looks like there is still a chance for Blake Baggett to pass Chad Reed for 4th, and it looks likely that Jason Anderson will pass Trey Canard (who is injured and has not raced since Detroit) for 6th.

250SX East Report

Justin Bogle quickly assumed 1st position and worked on moving away from the others. However, Marvin Musquin had other things in mind. Musquin had won the majority of 250SX East races this year, and he was determined to do it again. Bogle fended him off for most of the race, but Musquin finally executed a pass in lap 10. Bogle wasn’t able to reclaim the lead, though he did maintain 2nd.

Joey Savatgy and Jeremy Martin had a battle of their own over the final podium spot. Savatgy held the position for the majority of the race, though from time to time, Martin was able to make a pass and move into 3rd, only to have Savatgy make a pass of his own. Towards the end, Martin finally crashed while attempting a pass, allowing Savatgy to pull away and finish in 3rd.

The race solidified the top three final standings for the 250SX East class, with Musquin taking his first supercross championship. Bogle and Martin followed up in 2nd and 3rd overall, respectively.
