In the inaugural supercross race at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, the championships had already been determined. That didn’t stop anyone from giving it their all, however. The night was full of excellent racing.

Justin Barcia took the holeshot and held on to the lead position for several laps. However, Ryan Dungey was closing the gap, and he passed Barcia on lap 3. Once Dungey was in 1st, he finished the race unchallenged. It was his seventh win this season.

Early in the race, Weston Peick assumed the position behind Dungey, and Eli Tomac was behind Peick. As Dungey moved into 1st, it was only a few laps before both Peick and Tomac had passed Barcia as well. On lap 10, Tomac passed Peick. Peick couldn’t make a pass to regain the position, but he did maintain 3rd. It was the best finish of his career.

In the overall standings, Dungey already clinched the title, so the only question that remains is who will fill up the spots behind him. Tomac was already in 2nd, and his performance in Santa Clara added more points between him and Cole Seely (who currently sits in 3rd). At this stage in the season, it’s unlikely that there will be much movement in the overall standings.

250SX West Report

The beginning of the race began with a massive pileup. It took down several major riders like Cooper Webb and Justin Hill. A few riders even had to pull out from the race. However, the pileup didn’t stop some incredible racing from happening. Josh Hansen grabbed the holeshot and headed off with the lead. Aaron Plessinger managed to pass him for 1st, but he crashed a few laps later, allowing Hansen to resume control of 1st.

Meanwhile, Webb was charging from behind. Eventually he caught up to Hansen and passed him. Once Webb was in the lead, there was no stopping him. He placed 1st. Unfortunately for Hansen, mechanical issues forced him out of contention for a podium spot, allowing Hill to move into 2nd by the end. Alex Martin placed 3rd.

As in 450SX, the battle for the championship was already over before Santa Clara’s race. However, there was a change in 2nd place in the overall standings. Osborne’s unfortunate results after the pileup resulted in a DNF, allowing Shane McElrath to pass him in overall points.
