Race Report

Heavy rains at the Rocky Mountain ATV MC WORCS Series turned the Glen Helen track into a slippery ooze for the racers and officials. Because of the constant downpour, spectators had to use a back road to enter the Pro events, and the course had to be modified slightly; the race ran its usual two-hour time.

Taylor Robert took 1st again in this series, battling the mud to take the lead. Robert kept his head through the wet conditions, moving out front in the first lap. He seemed to take the rainy track in stride, though he later stated that dodging the deeper puddles was like Russian Roulette since they all looked the same from the surface.

Despite a strong start, Gary Sutherlin came in 2nd, slipping behind Robert because of problems with his goggles. A bottleneck in the last stretch blocked a charge to the finish. Just earning a spot on the podium was a welcome result for Sutherlin, however, after the problems he wrestled in the first round.

Dante Oliveira ran at a cool, collected pace to progress into 3rd around the third lap. Also a competent mudder, Oliveira negotiated the deteriorated track, pot-holes, bottle-neck and all, to find his first podium spot in the series.

Giacomo Redondi and Ricky Dietrich completed the top five, Dietrich’s Honda being the only non-KTM bike in the winning line-up.
