The sixth round of the 2018 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC World Off-Road Championship Series took place May 26-27 at Iron Mine Race Park in Cedar City, Utah.

Known for its jumps and often dusty conditions, Iron Mine played home to an exciting Memorial Day weekend of racing. Competition was intense, but the motorcycle, ATV, and SXS podiums each saw previous winners return to the top step.

Pro Motorcycle Report

Motorcycle racing began with Zach Bell taking the lead at the end of lap one. Despite dusty conditions and limited visibility, Taylor Robert turned in the fastest lap of the race (11:45.054) during lap two and took the lead from Bell by the start of lap three. Once he had the lead, Robert could not be caught.

Bell held onto a solid 2nd place, followed relatively closely by Giacomo Redondi in 3rd, but the limited visibility prevented most riders from mounting any meaningful challenge to the rider in front of them. Robert held onto 1st and claimed the win at the end of lap seven. Bell finished 2nd, and Redondi crossed the line in 3rd. Gary Sutherlin took 4th place just ahead of Eric Yorba, who stayed in 5th the entire race.

The win at Iron Mine helped Taylor Robert recover the points he lost while being out with an injury. He now has 75 points, good enough for 4th place overall, and has won every race he’s finished this season. Giacomo Redondi still sits in 1st with 107 points, but Gary Sutherlin is close behind in 2nd with 96. Zach Bell is currently in 3rd, and Justin Wallis is holding on to 5th despite pressure from both Eric Yorba and Justin Seeds.

Pro ATV Report

When ATV racing got underway, it was Robbie Mitchell who had the lead at the end of the first lap. Beau Baron was only 0.677 seconds behind Mitchell but couldn’t get a pass in until sometime during lap two. When he did make a pass, Baron made the most of it and kept the lead for the four remaining laps.

Mitchell then ran into problems and fell back to fifth, opening the door for Mike Sloan, who moved up into 2nd. Sloan raced well, but he couldn’t close on Baron, and the gap stayed to about 25 seconds. At the finish line, it was Baron who took the win. Sloan took 2nd just 24.553 seconds later, and John Rikerd took a distant 3rd. Mitchell and Collins Webster rounded out the field in 4th and 5th, respectively.

Baron’s win moved him up to 1st in overall points, just two points ahead of Sloan in 2nd. Mitchell is also right in the mix with 105 points, putting him in 3rd. Rikerd is in 4th and Webster 5th, though the two have a large points gap to overcome before either can break into the top three.

Pro SXS Report

UTV racing returned at Iron Mine, and Cody Bradbury dominated the field. Bradbury took the lead right out of the gate and never slowed down on his way to the win. Nic Granlund also had a great start and ran in 2nd place before falling back to 3rd during lap five. On the other hand, Matthew Hancock got off to a slow start before he worked his way up the field.

At the finish line, Bradbury took the clear win. Beau Baron finished 2nd and had the fastest lap time of the race (9:01.610). Hancock ended up making a great recovery and took the final podium spot in 3rd after coming up from 6th. Granlund lost a couple vital positions before finishing in 4th, and Ryan Piplic rounded out the top five finishers.

Despite not ending up on the podium, David Haagsma earned enough points at Iron Mine to maintain the lead in overall points with 98. Bradbury is in a close 2nd with 94 points, and Granlund stands in 3rd with 89 points. Beau Baron is in 4th, just a single point below Granlund. Hancock earned his best finish of the season at Iron Mine, and it moved him up to 9th overall. Meanwhile, Piplic continues to earn a steady stream of points, enough to put him in 5th place with 80 points.
