Dunlop's vast championship experience and development expertise has been infused into the next generation of off-road tires: the Dunlop Geomax® AT81EX™. This AT81EX was developed for use in Endurocross racing and has a unique "gummy" compound giving exceptional grip in extreme conditions.
  • AT81 rear tread block shape and distribution plus DIRTuitive Grip Design (DGD) knobs help the tire penetrate down through the surface dirt for extra traction across a broad range of off-road applications.
  • Formulated high-wear-resistant rear tire compound offers enhanced chipping, tearing and wear appearance.
  • Geomax AT81EX rear tire carcass features two nylon plies.
  • Lateral grooves on the shoulder knobs provide additional biting edges and also allow the knobs to be more flexible.
  • Rear center blocks are arranged in-line to provide a larger contact patch for maximum traction.
  • Dunlop's "plush pad" recess design between tread blocks enhances compliance for bump absorption and ride comfort.

Great tire
Love the AT81 from Dunlop. Have tried other brands and hybrids but keep coming back to the AT81. Great traction and wear for the conditions I ride in Southern Ontario.

My favorite Gummy tire!
I've been running the Shinko 505's, 525's since they cost less and I've been happy with them but after about 10hrs on them (525) they don't work very well in the Arizona desert. I tried the AT81EX and I'm hooked! It last much longer (I usually flip it after the edges get rounded) and the traction is incredible! Great in the rocky slow stuff and good in the softer sections/sand washes as well. Highly recommended!

Best Gummy in USA
Absolutely love this tire. By far the best gummy I have run. This has nice big knobs but still the lightest gummy I have weighed. Don’t be fooled by the size either (110/100) it is fat, and takes the 305 nitro. Knobs wear and do not rip off. Worth paying little extra for a true gummy that lasts longer than one race!

Didn't last long, but its a race tire and it worked amazing for me.
I used this tire for our local sprint enduro race, 65 miles of gnarly rock terrain in Arizona....the first thing I noticed is my bike felt like it had 2 new inches of cushy suspension travel, second thing I noticed was I had traction everywhere whenever I needed it, not disappointment here. Even in the last test with the center knobs half torn off it was still working well.
After the race I put another 120ish miles (two 60 miles trail rides on it) after the first trail ride, the center knobs where barely hanging on, after the second they were barely hanging on)...at this point I was just getting every penny out of it. Lol
I've used the Shinko 505 in the past and the Dunlop is hands down a better performing tire, but the 505 will last a little longer...But I am not putting a gummy on for trail riding and longevity (for that I'll stick with my tried and true standard AT81's), I'm putting this tire on for racing and for that it works amazing.
For what its worth, I'm a former high level Pro in Supercross and then off road....now a Geezer 50+ A rider so take my opinion for what its worth.

Great grip with potentially short lifespan.
I took this tire out for it’s first ride in the high desert mountains of SoCal where I put around 45 miles of trails on it. I had traction everywhere and the tire seemed to just tractor up everything even at the slowest speeds. It doesn’t seem to be a long lasting tire as you can see from the picture but I don’t think anyone is claiming it would be. I just had to try a gummy tire and see what all the rage is.

Best traction I've ever had for a rear tire
The traction is nothing like I've ever seen before but these tires are soft. After two rides I can tell that they won't last long.

Good tire,should be cheaper though.
Excellent grip, hard sidewalls, can be ran with 7 psi and a tube. 2 rocky rides on it,showing a little wear.Should be an 80 dollar tire.

Gods Tire
Still amazed by the amount of grip provided by this tire. It hooks up on rocks, roots, mud, dirt, anything. My only complaint is the price, but It wont stop me from buying more of them. They do wear out rather quickly compared to the normal AT81 but its expected for a gummy. The sidewall is too soft to provide any sort of cornering ability, you can still rail corners it just feels like you have a flat tire so its a little awkward.

Great traction. Horrible durability.
Second ride in rocks, one of the knobs ripped open to the point that it couldn't be plugged and I had to limp back. In all, the tire lasted about 5 hours (my Shinko easily lasted about 30 hours in the same rocks). Might be OK if you're running mousse inserts. Or if you're a factory rider and change your tires after every race.

Overall tire is nice but not for rocky hard terrain
-m-2016 KTM 250 XC-W (E-Start)--

Not good for hard terrain. This tire knobs started to come apart as if it was a retread plus the knobs had all stress cracks on all knobbies
Tire hooks up nice on soft terrain and shale rock but not for hard core rocky trails
Plus when riding on dirt road tire seems to skate a little maybe due to the softness of tire

What would be a good front tire to match the Dunlop Geomax AT81EX rear tire?
Henry C on Feb 11, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I get the Bridgestone M59. It's a dependable front tire that lasts.
