Made for more aggressive dual-sport and adventure riders that ride off-road, the Icon Raiden Watchtower is an affordably priced jacket that packs venting, abrasion resistance, and armor into one well-done package. Starting on the outside, the jacket has a main chassis of poly-dobby textile materials for better durability over standard polyester fabrics. There are also a lot of features baked into this outer layer. Ones worth mentioning start with the zippered, direct-venting scheme that includes two very big chest vents, two shoulder vents, and two-way zippered cuffs that double as vents.

That’s a very good setup of venting, especially since it’s all direct without a waterproof liner in the way. But if that’s not enough, the sleeves are fully removable and transform the jacket into a technical vest during really hot weather. There are several large panels of accordion stretch materials to promote a full range of motion, a good chunk of reflectivity to make sure you’re seen, and a big rabbit pouch out back that’s great for holding the sleeves or anything else you can fit.

Inside, the jacket opts for simplicity and does it well. There’s a vest-type thermal liner that’s completely removable, inner storage pockets that can be accessed through the thermal liner, and—best of all—there’s a full set of higher-end D3O molecular armor at the shoulders, elbows, and at the back—which is almost never included in other jackets. With everything said and done, that gives you a very capable off-road shell that punches above its price tag and a jacket that’s perfect for wearing on a WR450R, KLR, or DRZ.
