Dirt Tricks testing has determined that the OEM dome washer is made of mildly heat treated material. When that component is installed under a tightened counter-shaft bolt, it is taken well beyond it’s "yield" or "elastic" limit and permanently deforms. In that condition in cannot maintain the thrust pressure necessary to keep the sprocket tight to the splined shaft. That leads to two different failures. First, as described above, the O-ring is allowed enough clearance that it begins seeping. Secondly, the backlash between the splined shaft and sprocket is allowed to more freely pound in each direction, as the torque of power verses compression reverses itself.
Dirt Tricks has developed a tool steel, heat-treated dome washer that develops two to three times the pre-load force without reaching it’s elastic limit and without over-stressing the mating components. This solves O-ring leakage as well as extending the life of both the counter-shaft and sprocket splines. A counter-shaft replacement alone, with labor costs in excess of $700.
If you plan to keep your KTM four-stroke for many seasons this product is well worth the investment.

Great fix for a poorly designed OEM part

Comments On Jan 26, 2016:Just like all the other reviews state, this is a much needed part the first time you change the countershaft sprocket on a KTM/Husaberg/Husky. Mine has been removed and reinstalled quite a few times since I switch out the sprocket depending on the ride. So far no countershaft seal leaks in 2,000 miles.

Dirt Tricks Dome counter sprocket washer.....

Comments On Sep 08, 2015:Cheap investment, must have for KTM's. Why,...because the OEM washer will only retain tension with very limited removal and reinstallation of counter sprocket. The counter sprockets wear fast and when installing them they must be torqued correctly. The Dirt Tricks retains its shape and tension after many uses. The OEM will fatigue and fail over time if removed and reinstalled multiple times. Leading to leaking counter shaft seals and potentially low torque value on counter sprocket potentially allowing damage to splines as well. Not worth the risk IMOP. Make sure and use your torque wrench with Dirt Tricks, and save yourself some grief and money. Ride safe ,and have fun.

    Much better than stock

Comments On Aug 16, 2015:The stock washer flattens out and lets oil leak at the countershaft spline. the Dirt Tricks model keeps the tension applied and therefore does not leak. A bit expensive, but worth the money in my opinion.

    Dirt tricks

Comments On Jan 18, 2015:Seems to be better then stock washer, only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is this item is more for perventive mantance. If it keeps the seal from leaking and shaft in good shape. How could you go wrong.

Slightly wider, Way tougher, Great product

Comments On Oct 09, 2014:The last dome washer you will ever buy. Went on perfectly to the stock bolt. Torqued down to 44# without any issue. A great product that is much tougher than the stock unit, and also a little wider.
