    Details

Dirt Tricks testing has determined that the OEM dome washer is made of mildly heat treated material. When that component is installed under a tightened counter-shaft bolt, it is taken well beyond it’s "yield" or "elastic" limit and permanently deforms. In that condition in cannot maintain the thrust pressure necessary to keep the sprocket tight to the splined shaft. That leads to two different failures. First, as described above, the O-ring is allowed enough clearance that it begins seeping. Secondly, the backlash between the splined shaft and sprocket is allowed to more freely pound in each direction, as the torque of power verses compression reverses itself.
Dirt Tricks has developed a tool steel, heat-treated dome washer that develops two to three times the pre-load force without reaching it’s elastic limit and without over-stressing the mating components. This solves O-ring leakage as well as extending the life of both the counter-shaft and sprocket splines. A counter-shaft replacement alone, with labor costs in excess of $700.
If you plan to keep your KTM four-stroke for many seasons this product is well worth the investment.

is this meant as a one time use or can it be reused ?
    Francis M on Jan 28, 2019
BEST ANSWER: According to the product description it will not reach its elastic limit in use meaning regular use shouldn’t damage or stretch it, unlike the oem one which is quite soft and doesn’t clamp hard enough in normal conditions resulting in accelerated wear on the counter-shaft (a non-wear item) and oil leaks. I may still consider replacing it if the rear sprocket is bent and you continue riding or if you break a front sprocket because it will put more stress than intended on the spring. You should always consider all the factors before deciding to reuse a part, but this washer is good for at least 5-10 uses before stressing and weakening according to manufacturers tests.
Is this supposed to spin on the sprocket when the bolt is tightened?
    Craig M on May 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It might spin when you first start to tighten the bolt. After you have tighten the bolt to the factory torque specs the spring washer should not spin freely on the sprocket.
This should fit a 2017 KTM 500 excf right? Rocky Mount only shows it'll fit the 250 and 350 enduro models. Help is appreciated as I need a washer for my countersprocket after just replacing the stock one countersprocket.
    Jakob C on Aug 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I can’t say for sure, but I have them on a Husaberg 390 and 450. From my experience, there is no difference whatsoever in the specs for the washer. It’s a pretty standard countershaft sprocket washer. The Bergs and KTMs share A LOT of parts and other bits.
