Excellent Upgrade for the 1st Gen. KLR 650!
These springs eliminated the front end dive and bottoming on my KLR. Improved the handle and feel of the front forks. Have not bottomed out front suspension on the mountain trails I ride yet. Note: If you do not wish to cut original metal equipment spacers to adjust pre-load, you will need purchase and cut PVC pipe to use as substitute.

Great upgrade for KLR650
I purchased these after reading several reviews. They've made a huge difference in the amount of fork dive I experience while riding on the street when braking in all situations.

Off-road I notice the most difference on whoops. It smooths them out and makes them much more manageable. It's easier to be aggressive.

The best thing you can do to your KLR
Probably the single most transformative upgrade to the KLR I've done. No more deep diving during braking. It feels quite planted and along with the rear spring, the bike now has real suspension.

The install is also one of the easier things I've done. If you're just doing a spring change, this job is as simple as an oil change. If opting to change fork oil, add about an hour. I opted for both and
other than a torque wrench, I didn't need any special tools.

Stopped the nose dives!
This stopped the nose dives and bottoming out that I had on my 2003 KLR650. I am a heavy guy who rides with aluminum boxes and camping gear. I was impressed with how well they have helped the bike.

does this kit include the PVC spacers and new washers?
James D on Apr 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes the spacers are there. I was a bit worried at first about using pvc but the pvc spacers supplied with the kit are very thick and sturdy. I can't remember about the washers, I had a workshop fit mine so I can't remember. I would recommend them. They felt a bit stiff at first but now I'm use to them I wouldn't have it any other way. Made a massive difference to the handling of my KLR.
Are these a true progressive spring or a dual rate spring? What are the either the start/end spring rates or the two spring rates if it is a dual rate spring?
Steve L on Jul 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Steve L. - I don't have the documentation that came with the springs so I can't tell you if the documentation said anything about spring rates.

What I can tell you is I ride a 08 KLR that had serious on/off road handling issues and it nose dived every time I braked, let of the throttle and/or shifted. That all went away once I installed these springs.

For me that was good enough as KLR isn't a racing bike or a hard-core off road bike. I mostly ride fire roads, double track and some light single track and yes it handles better with these springs.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter to me if these are progressive , dual rate or something else, it did the job and it was well worth the money to upgrade.
What are the progressive spring rates? I do not see an option for different rates to suit my load.
A shopper on Mar 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't believe they offer different rates for the same bike, only different models. I have them in my KLR and DR, they're far better than stock. You can play around with preload to fine turn them.
What type of material and size (inner/outer diameter) are the spacer and washer included in the kit??
A shopper on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The spacer comes as 1 piece 273mm long that you need to cut into 2 pieces. The pipe looks like pvc but I cannot verify or give positive material composition. The pipe measures 33.33 OD & 26.41 ID giving a 3.04 wall thickness. The washers look to be a common zinc washer with an 16.76 ID 33.33 OD with a 2.54 thickness.

33.33 mm OD 26.41 mm ID giving a wall thickness of 3.04mm that comes in 1 273mm long piece. Washers are .660 id 33.33 od and .100 thick
