  Great For What It Is

  Bought this because I wanted a high-quality jacket with hard plastic protection. Read some pretty bad reviews about the durability of comparable Leatt and Fox options, and the Bionic Tech V2 jacket didn't have hard plastic on the elbows. The good: comfortable, fits perfectly (ordered a medium per sizing guide), vents very well such that I don't overheat in it, easy to clean (with Simple Green and a big plastic bin), shoulder and elbow armor is sized especially well. The bad: I really wish it had rib protection, and more shoulder blade protection (not a lot there). After 4 riding days (plus a couple of quick rides), the zipper is acting more finicky than I had hoped, although not causing major problems yet.

  After 2 rides, I like it!

  Previously I used the Fox body armor and was happy with it. After a bad crash, I realized I need a neck brace and chose the Leatt 5.5 and also wanted the Leatt 5.5 body protection. It's comfortable, well made and has lots of coverage, including my ribs. I've ridden 2 times in 95 degree heat and it seems to flow air well.

  I am 5' 7" tall, just under 40" chest, 32" waist, 155 lbs. Wearing a large and it fits comfortably snug on torso and arms. You may want to go up a size based on the sizing chart. Fairly light weight for a full jacket style protector. On 90 F degree, high humidity days, it is hot, really hot and sweaty when on slow moving single track trails. Decent venting when moving faster. Somewhat difficult to remove arms from jacket when drenched in sweat. I worry about pulling too hard and damaging sleeves. Material is comfortable against the skin. Shoulder and elbow / forearm protection stay in place well. Back protection extends low and makes it difficult to tuck jersey into pants. Certain style hydration backpacks may cause the chest protector to ride up a bit since it is not attached to the jacket base material. Washing instructions state "Do not submerge" and suggest tamping with wet soapy cloth. Good luck getting the stink out with that method. I remove the chest protector, hang and lightly hose it down, then reattach chest protector and hang dry, so far, so good. It would be a five star product if it was equipped with side rib protection similar to the A-10. Also, additional color options would be nice. Black is not my first choice of colors for HOT sunny conditions.

  Too Hot

  Well made, but too hot for slow speed enduro type riding. Anything above 70 degrees and you're sweating like crazy. It would probably be great for Adventure riding or dual sports where you have more air flow. But for tight single track in hot weather, this jack wears too hot for me.
