  • Scorpion EXO-AT950 Tucson Modular Helmet

    Craig in TX

    Solid helmet

Solid helmet for the money. A little noisy on highway but not too bad. Visor catches wind at speed, but it is removable. I fell pretty hard off road in my first EXO-AT950 and it provided very good protection.

  • Klim F3 Carbon Helmet

Fidlock: Great idea but rendered the helmet unusab...

Awesome helmet but definitel needs a double D-ring option instead of the bulky fidlock. I had to send this incredibly light and excellent fitting helmet back because of the fidlock system digging into my adam's apple. I couldn't believe there were no other complaints about it so I thought I must have been doing something wrong. I contacted Klim customer support and emailed them the same picture that i'm uploading for this review. They said everything looked right so they recommended to loosen the strap. It was definitely not too tight. In the pic I had my head tilted back and I could still fit two fingers between the strap and my neck. the problem are the three massive hunks of metal that make this system adjustable. As you can see, it places one of the brackets directly in line with my adams apple and if I hold my head level, it gets kind of pinched between the underside of my jaw and my adams apple. The red mark on my neck in the pictures is from 3 minutes of walking around with it on so there is no way I could ride with it so this system is the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars. If it had the normal D-ring set up, it would be five stars and it would be in my gear bag right now. I watched lots of reviews and noticed that some thicker necked people did not seem to have this issue because the strap is spread far apart to accommodate the extra beef. I'm 6' and 165 lbs so there is no cushioning around my neck so it's a no go for me. I hope this review helps everyone because I ordered the chaos F3 carbon and it is an extremely light helmet and awesome design. I've never been so disappointed to have to send something back.

  • Bell MX-9 Adventure MIPS Helmet

    Michael in TN

MX-9 Adventure / Optic white with MIPS

This purchase was a replacement for a retired MX-9 Adventure. This is the upgraded MIPS version. There are still non MIPS versions out there, but I opted for the MIPS. I have not seen them on sale yet, and with the recent bump in motorcycle sales, it might be a while. I bought this just prior to doing a Smokey Mountain 500/600 ride. 3 days with 8 to 10 hour days in the saddle. It's sort of middle of the road for weight. Can't say that the weight is noticeable one way or the other. The most important thing is fit, and the MX-9 fits me. I wear Shoei's for street only and the fit is comparable. Comfortable across the crown and around the forehead. Snug up against the jaw bone with no contact on the cheeks. No pressure points. Excellent ventilation, although the there is no way to close the vents in the crown of the helmet. On cool mornings, this could be an issue. At highway speeds, the bill will catch air if you turn your head, but they all do that. At a trail pace it is not noticeable. All that air flow comes at a small price. Noise. This is not a quiet helmet, but I always wear molded ear plugs, so it's not a issue for me. Oversized ear recesses for speakers, if you are into that, are a nice addition. The face shield closes tightly and the detents are positive. This allows the shield to be up in different positions with no worries that it will suddenly fall shut. The main benefit is the opening size. I can wear my Scott or Thor goggles with this helmet, with the face shield in the open, or full down position. I swapped out the clear shield for the dark smoke. This allows me to go with a clear goggles and flip the shield down in direct sunlight. Fit and finish are excellent. At the price this is a great helmet at an excellent price point. For a few dollars more Bell offers multiple color schemes from flat black to patterns to camo. I have always been an optic white guy, and some ADV helmets just are not offered in white. If this helmet fits your head shape and size, I don't think you can go wrong.
