Details
Built to help adventure and touring riders handle all four seasons and the unpredictable weather that comes with them, the Alpinestars Valparaiso 2 Drystar Jacket represents a big step up from the previous version and a great option in the mid-level jacket category. From a wide angle, major features begin with a heavily revised outer shell that now uses 600 denier ripstop fabric to bolster the jacket’s durability, a revised venting scheme that makes the large vent panels much easier to use, and a cut that gives the jacket a much more athletic feel without any excess bulk.
Moving inside the jacket you’re looking at a removable, full-sleeve thermal liner that’ll get you through the really cold months, followed by a waterproof, breathable Drystar liner that keeps water out while still letting sweat and moisture out. This Drystar liner is also a finished piece, meaning it has the fit and finish of a regular jacket and can be worn on its own without the outer shell—ideal for wearing when you reach your destination at the end of the day.
Astars tosses in a whole bunch more features, some of which include CE level 1 armor at the shoulders and back (with upgradable pads at the back and chest), waterproof pockets on the interior and exterior, and several smaller details that really increase the jacket’s overall usability. And that’s what the Valparaiso does best—yes it protects you from every type of weather and does it well—but the jacket’s cut, fit adjustment, venting, and overall ergonomics make it easier to use compared to other technical, 4-season adventure jackets.
