Great alternative to more expensive options
I had a similar trail tech meter on a different bike. The trail tech one had a single small button and it was hard to cycle through the modes; especially with riding gloves on. This one has 2 big buttons that are easy to use. The display is big and easy to read in the daytime. I wish that they had an option for a backlit version to use at night, not a huge deal but would be nice. The available bracket also worked well. I wish it was included or at least cheaper. I feel like the bracket is the most secure mounting option. The cable that goes around the ignition wire is quite thick and was harder to wrap around than the trail tech.

I also wish that there were better instructions for programming/reset available. The installation instructions were fine but I had to figure out for myself with different spark modes there were and how they worked.

Cheap, functional and hard to read in low light
Works as claimed. Cable position limits mounting options. Hard to read in low light. Functions keys not very intuitive for me.

Tusk Tach/ Hour Meter
So far so good but it's hard to evaluate reliability or performance having had it just a few weeks. Everything does work. Wish the battery could be replaced when it does run out.

just mounted in SxS
Just mounted and tried in garage. Good little unit for checking idle and it will log a max rpm so good for tuning clutch. Too small to safely read at speed where I have it mounted. I could get it mounted higher if I extended wire and may do so later. I trust it will be easy to reset max reading so it will be an effective instrument for tuning

Best hour meter period
This tusk hour meter is exactly what I was looking for. I needed a small set up with rpm and hours and this dies just that. The install was so simple especially with the tusk mounting bracket. Hardest part was wrapping the wire around coil.

East Install
Other than being super easy to install, I do love this meter. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out super easily is to switch between the RPM and the hour meter quickly.

I really wanted this to have been a success.
Well, it is most likely a better product than my review makes out to be - at least on another motorcycle. Full disclosure; I will continue to try to get it to work, and I haven't done any real riding beyond testing the installation yet (winter is still here in Canada as I write this). Value; Well, the battery is not replaceable, so this is a throw-away product. Reliability; It looks water-proof, but I can't get it to show RPM or hours of use. Not reliable for me. Ease of installation; Really, I for my motorcycle, I'd give it zero bars, but on your machine, wrapping it around the spark plug wire should be stupid easy. My motorcycle has the coil on top of the spark plug and so there isn't really a wire to wrap the lead around, and the ONE image I could find online - which I followed - did not result in the product having a spark signal. To actually wrap the wire 'under the coil cap' would mean modifying my coil cap so that the wire would fit between the weather seal and the cylinder head, which I'm not going to do. It has also been very difficult to figure out what #of sparks per # of revolutions apply to a WR250R (is it 1 or 2? I've found both being stated...). I have to deal with the gas tank to try the wrapping in another location, and that is a big pain in the tank! So, hence the installation (and performance) gets one block, as it is not performing for me at all. As to the Ease of Use, the two controlling buttons didn't seem to make the unit respond at all - I think the instructions could be written better. Yes, I eventually got it to shift between settings (with my old eyes, the little print on the screen is unreadable too - glasses required by me).

Mine didn't come with instruction and I cant find them online. Can someone describe to me the functionality of each button? For example I tried to change the spark per revolution and both buttons just take me back to the main menu.
Dakota N on May 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The instructions are in the fold card that comes in the packaging. I will send you a email for the instructions.
I just installed this hour meter. I have approximately 2 hours on the bike since I have installed the meter but the meter is reading at .57. I assume that means just over a 1/2 hour. What could cause this? Could it be caused an incorrect sparks per revolution setting? Also, I must have thrown the packaging away, could you please email the instructions to me?
Roderick F on Aug 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Mine did not come with instructions, so can only answer from what i figured out myself. which is probably not enough. i bought the instrument only for its rpm abilities. I thought my trials bike was idling too fast and the instrument confirmed that. and allowed me to set the idle to spec.only after that did i look at the hour meter. The .57 reading means 57 minutes, so since you have about 2 hours (120min) on with yours installed, maybe it is an incorrect sparks per minute setting. wish i could say for sure. Dave
what do you do with the wire i cant find anything online or in the instructions that tells you?
Eric B on Sep 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Wrap the loose end around the the spark plug wire next to the plug boot or coil and secure with a zip tie or tape. You can cut it shorter if you don’t want so much bulk
1P1R, 2P1R, 3P1R, 4P1R, 6P1R, 8P1R, 3P2R, 5P2R or 1P2R ? Which one for a two stroke? It's lame they don't make it clear. This is my second time asking this question, whats up Rockymountain why are you deleting my question?
ROBERT B on Oct 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Ive been trying to figure this out too. I think I have mine on 2p1r and it's a 4 stroke and it shows half the rpms.
1P1R, 2P1R, 3P1R, 4P1R, 6P1R, 8P1R, 3P2R, 5P2R or 1P2R ? Which one for a two stroke? Good grief you would think they would make that clear. It's lame that they don't.
ROBERT B on Oct 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Two strokes will use either 1P1R or 1P2R depending on the model. What bike is this going on?
what setting do i set the sparks per revolution for the TUSK hour meter. I assume kx250F sparks once per 2 revolutions. If so what setting is that 1P1R, 2P1R, 3P1R, 4P1R, 6P1R, 8P1R, 3P2R, 5P2R or 1P2R ?
Larry L on Aug 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have an 18 Husqvarna Fe350 I need the strokes setting. Is that something you can help with?
can you change the battery on it? Or its lifespan is 4 years.
Sandra M on Jun 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I do not think you can change the battery or atleast not without taking it apart.
Does this tell the time also? I never know what time it is when I'm riding!
Jason B on Sep 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No it does not display time. It only runs when the bike runs and has no battery back up memory so it can't do this.
How do you reset the Max RPM? Does the engine have to be running for that to be done? The instructions that came with the unit are garbage.
Adam G on Nov 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Every time you restart the engine it resets itself but holds the last ride
I am wandering what the ppr is on a 08 Honda crf250r? What is max rpm for this bike also?
A shopper on Oct 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Running it on a 17 Husky 300 so highest revs ive seen are in the 9000 range but should state the range on site. It was very easy to set up took the tank off mounted it up on the goose neck ran the wire to the plug wire and just wrapped it in tight coils some tape and done. Works fabulous great product
What is the bolt spacing center to center? Same as KTM?
Doug J on Oct 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Didn't bolt it I used the double sided tape that came with it. I've had zero problems so far been about a yearEnter
how long is the wire? i need 8 Feet
Ben V on Mar 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It has been less than a year since the install. It is a decent length, 4-6', but definitely not 8.
What is the correct setting for a KTM 65?
Lee B on Jan 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You want the 1P1R setting which means one pulse equals one revolution. If it were a 4-stoke, you would want the 1P2R
can I cut some of the black wire off I have way to much ?
johnie b on Jun 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can cut it shorter to fit snugly around the coil.
Can the hours be reset to zero?
BRIAN T on May 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Service hours can be reset but total hours can not.
Why was this discontinued? I love these meters and they worked great for a great price!
Michael B on Apr 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This item has not been discontinued. I'm sorry for any confusion.
