By taking the F2 Carbon’s framework and working in injury reducing MIPS technology, the Fly Racing F2 Carbon MIPS Retrospec Helmet delivers premium levels of performance and quality at a price that’s still affordable for most riders.
The foundation of the F2 Carbon MIPS helmet is the same super-lightweight, super-strong carbon Kevlar composite shell used in the standard F2 carbon, and it’s still a premium performer with a trim weight around the 3.3 pound mark and passing grades for both DOT and SNELL certifications.
Where the F2 Carbon MIPS distinguishes itself from other Fly helmets, and most other helmets on the market, is in the MIPS protection layer. By putting this low-friction slip layer in the F2 Carbon, the helmet does a much better job at redirecting angular impact forces and preventing head trauma. It also moves the helmet up to the top tier of protection currently offered from off-road/motocross helmets and justifies the price over the standard F2 Carbon models.
The rest of the F2 Carbon MIPS is just as premium as the protection scheme because of features like the large layout of circulation vents arranged in key areas like the brow and back of the neck, and the comfort promoting Coolmax® liner that’s moisture wicking as well as entirely removable/washable.
SNELL 2015 and DOT approved – meets or exceeds safety standards
Carbon fiber Kevlar composite shell – creates superior strength and a very light weight
Weighs around 3.3 pounds
MIPS® low-friction layer absorbs rotational forces during impacts for greater protection than standard EPS helmets
Flow through circulation system maximizes airflow in both the EPS and comfort liner
Dual density EPS liner combines two layers of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene), one softer, one slightly harder to provide more progressive impact absorption for different levels of impact
Multi-port air induction cooling system creates massive airflow to keep head cool
11 intake ports and 4 exhaust vents located in critical areas
Intake vents above eye port draw air away from goggle to prevent fogging
Molded rubber trim with integrated nose guard deflects rocks and debris
Stainless steel rivets and D-rings give superior strength and years of use
Optional carbon fiber intake vent wing can be added to the helmet for increased direction of airflow on the front vents
MIPS (Multi-Directional Protection System)
MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is a specialized helmet safety technology that is now being used in the top tier of off road helmets in order to greatly lessen the chances of traumatic brain injury.
By integrating an engineered low-friction layer into the liner of the helmet, MIPS enables a relative sliding motion between the head and the helmet so angular and rotational impact forces are absorbed and deflected.
Since most head impacts occur at oblique and unpredictable angles, helmets with MIPS Technology are able to offer better protection than helmets without.
For proper fit and size, measure the circumference of your head 1" above your eyebrows and around the largest portion of the back of your head.

Graphics are great.. Fitment is as expected. Tight in cheek pad area, comfortable helmet. Great Ventilation, padded chin strap, with the mips liner system.. Helmet is very light, and quite comfortable, with wide field of view, so my Scott Prospects fit perfectly!
This is my second carbon F2. The first one is still in great shape just a few years old so I decided to replace it once I saw the great deal on the F2 with MIPS. The fit and finish is great. This is well worth the price. Light weight and very comfortable.
I purchased my Fly Racing F2 Carbon Mips on closeout from RMATVMC at the lowest price available online. I've now worn the helmet for a number of hours and am very pleased with the fit, weight and ventilation. Also, my goggles fit better in this helmet than they did in my previous Answer helmet. Fortunately, I haven't tested out the Mips system yet but, after reviewing the top safety systems available, I'm confident that it's as good as anything on the market.
I plan to keep this helmet for years and would recommend it to anyone.
I've had this helmet for about 5 months now. It's a great looking helmet and is very light and comfortable. It was slightly on the tight size when I first wore it but after a couple rides it felt perfect. I had my first bad wreck with this helmet yesterday. I went over the bars and landed face first on hard packed ground at full race pace. I had no loss of conscience?. It sheared off all three of the visor mounting bolts and there are several cracks and areas were it is broken clean through in the jaw area and under the visor. I'm writing this review 24 hours after the wreck with only 2 black eyes, a headache and a fat lip. The helmet is trash now but in my opinion it did it's job perfectly. I had a somewhat similar wreck 10 years ago wearing a different helmet and it almost killed me and put me in a comma for awhile. Bottom line is I'm extremely happy with this helmet and I will be ordering a new one as soon as I'm done with this review.
Overall impression, nice helmet like the fact it has the MIPS
Nice looking helmet. I measured myself at 23 1/4 which is a large. When I got it I tried the helmet on it was very tight!! I went around to a couple of other bike shops and found that a fly XL fit a lot better. Nice no hassle return, waiting on my XL Can't answer part about ventilation
