The 5.5 Pro is part of Leatt’s most protective line of chest protectors and serves as the middleweight option that delivers a good balance of protection and mobility. But, Leatt still makes the 5.5 Pro tough enough to earn CE levels of protection on the back, shoulder, and chest.

Built on a layout of overlapping and articulating hard, plastic plates, the 5.5 Pro manages to give good protection that still moves with your body instead of restricting it. It's also versatile enough to work with any Leatt neck brace, or without a neck brace at all.

Exclusive FlipFit front and rear, movable, plates allow your neck brace to fit under the protector, for outside the jersey use, or wear the protector under your jersey and your brace can still fit over the top. BraceOn™ strap system attaches the protector to the neck brace yet provides independent movement of body, brace and chest protector.

With the mobility of lighter deflectors, CE rated protection of heavier options, and the versatility to adjust the deflector to suit your style of riding, the Leatt 5.5 Pro Roost Deflector is one of the best options for motocross, trail, and cross country racing.

    Protection
  • The back of protector meets the highest back impact CE approval, CE EN 1621-2, Level 2.
  • The front of protector meets the highest front impact CE approval, prEN 1621-3, Level 2.
  • The shoulder protectors are impact tested and CE certified to CE EN 1621-1.
  • Hard shell outer shield made of High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE).
  • Extremely high impact testing results achieved by use of Leatt’s new 3DF foam in front and back.

    Versatility
  • Removable, bio-foam upper arm roost guards.
  • Fits over or under the jersey.
  • 41 ventilation slots for maximum cooling.
  • Perforated 3DF foam helps air flow.
  • Adjustable over the shoulder straps help insure a great fit.

    Sizing
  • Adult size fits riders from approx. 150 to 190 lbs.

Shoulder pads fall off
This is my second chest and shoulder protector. My first was a 1990's Thor motocross model. I had decided that it has kept me from snapping a collar bone several times.
I convinced my wife that I probably should upgrade. I purchased the Leatt thinking that it was top quality and would give me great protection.
However on my first ride the shoulder protectors came un clipped 3 times and slipped down my arm and has continued to have the same failure on every ride.
I then attended a cross country race and noticed a fella wearing the same protector but both shoulder guards were removed. The first corner he got bumped and flipped off his bike. I rode his bike out for him because his collar bone had gotten broken.
Note: I have not contacted Leatt about this problem yet.
Any suggestions?

Shoulder pads suck..
They just blew it with the shoulder pad design..They fall off, hang loose, and the straps are useless..The velcro is an abomination..The overall quality is ok but the bad shoulder pad protection is a deal breaker..There expensive and heavy and completely flawed..Cut your losses and buy something else.

It's the best, but expensive
I bought for the shoulder pad protection. It has the beafiest shoulder pads and I have fallen with no issues at all. Without it I broke my collarbone. It is large to try to wear under your jersey and I think it is more comfortable over the jersey. I would say that is true about all chest protection with shoulder pads though. Bottom line is protection and Leatt makes the best. In a race I forgot I had it on, until I fell! Then, I was glad I had it.

What were they thinking?
There's only one good way to test the effectiveness of a chest protector. Unfortunately, I had that opportunity today. There is no doubt that the quality of the protective materials is great. The problem is the design. As I looked at the design of the 5.5 Pro, I kept asking myself "What were they thinking?" Actually, the chest and back protection are good. Though, I personally think the picture of the protector used by Leatt is deceptive. It makes the protector appear to have rib protection than it actually has - you have to buy the HD version for the extra rib protection. The primary design flaws have to do with shoulder and upper arm protection - which is why I have an ice pack on my shoulder at this moment. I can only guess that Leatt was trying to design a shoulder pad which was very adjustable and removable (why would anyone want to remove protection?). But the result was protection that is not secure and uncomfortable. The shoulder pads in the current model are attached with a plastic clasp which move along a sliding attachment. The minor effect is that, when wearing a hydration pack, the pack-straps sit on top of the plastic clasp. It produces a similar effect to having a rock in your shoe all day. After a day ride, my shoulder is sore for another day due to the clasp digging into my shoulder all day. A more serious problem with the design is that the pads do not stay in place. There's so much adjustability built in that the shoulder pads are not secure. There is also no protection at the top of the shoulder. If the pads had stayed in place, my shoulder wouldn't be bothering me now. Some other "What were they thinking?" design issues are the strap around the bicep and the bicep padding. The strap around the bicep, attached to the shoulder pad, is very small. I'm 6' and 175 and the straps barely fit around my arm. The upper-arm guard is strangely attached to the front of the shoulder pad at about a 30 degree angle. My upper arm, like most, is directly below my shoulder. So I have to un-attach the pad from the shoulder pad to wear it on my bicep. This protector looks great in the picture. I only wish it worked as well.

marginal at best
I had high hopes for this product. I really got it for the shoulder protection, the rest was pretty standard for a chest protector. First off, it's heavy and combined with a hydration pack over the rig and you'll feel it pull hard on your neck. Shoulder protection is good until you hit something. It protects, but breaks aways. The problem is the receptacle for the buckle is forever compromised and weakened and it then starts to simply fall out at the slightest breeze. After trying to bring it back to acceptable functionality, I hung it up to think on it and haven't used it since. For the price, I remain sincerely disappointed in design and performance.

top of the line
Exactly what i was expecting from a leatt product. Very comfortable against bare skin when worn under shirt or over.

So far so good
So far I have been very happy with this. It's covered me in a few minor crashes and fits nice and snug. Latches are good and have no issues. My only complaint is I bought this along with the neck brace that integrates with the chest protector. It all goes together nicely but I have to wear my chest protector and neck brace over my shirt because you cannot get a shirt on once you have the neck brace on. Just something to be aware of

Great protector
It's a great buy, fits good under my jersey to. The shoulder cups could use some redesign though.

Good Product - Needs Shoulder Strap Fixed
I really like the protector. It fits and wears well. Works great with the matching neck brace. But like some of the others have mentioned, the shoulder pad straps are T-shaped fittings in a hole and the tear out the first time you catch them and they cannot be put back in. They won't stay since they tear the hole out. I had to poke a hole in mine and zip-tie it back in. Maybe they are meant to come out instead of breaking, but they end up tearing up the hole in the process which ruins the protector. If the strap broke, at least one could replace just the strap or something.

I probably will buy another one just because I want the best and it fits so well with the neck brace. It just needs the straps fixed.

would this fit with an atlas air neck brace?
Zach G on Nov 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The atlas looks like the same kind of "fins" on the back as the leatt neck brace which fits into a pocket on this roost. Also that pocket has a removable pad so if the fin on the atlas is bigger it might fit that way. Maybe try to find the exact dimensions online if you don't want to chance it.
I’ve heard that after so many people were having problems with the shoulder pads, leatt changed the design. Are there still a lot of durability issues with the shoulder pads on this protector?
You don't N on Nov 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My Leatt protector that I purchased this year has the new clip system and the shoulder pads come un clipped at least once every ride. I am hoping that they will come up with a solution that will fix my chest protector. Money does not grow on trees at our home.
Is this adult large ok for 130lb 5’9 adult rider. Or should we go with youth large.?
Phillip F on Sep 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Phillip, the standard adult size would be best for the 5'9" adult rider.
The pictures show 2 different versions. The pro and the HD pro. I need the HD. Which one is this?
